Unassumingly occupying a corner of the Dixon House food court in Haymarket, de juice sells honeysuckle tea (not tried that) and sugar cane juice. That's it. And you know the juice is fresh because they have a big machine that juices it for you - they feed the long sticks in and the juice comes out. Simple. They mix the sweet extract with either lime or lemon to take away from the sweetness and it works perfectly. Poured over ice, it tastes almost like very sweet milk (with a citrusy tang) and is sooooo moreish! Although you do have to remember you're basically drinking pure sugar so it's probably not the best for you (although apparently it does have certain health benefits). $4 for a large cup is definitely money well spent!

I always recommend it to my customers if they mention needing a bite to eat in the Supacenta, and it's easily the best place to grab food or coffee within the building. Double Shot serves coffee and tea, as well as food. They have a selection of hot foods that you can grab (sausage rolls, pies, chips, etc.) or you can order off their menu. They serve burgers, fish and chips, sandwiches and even salads and curries. All of the food is DELICIOUS! The calamari is one of my favourites, but the curry (made fresh daily) is fantastic as well. They also serve delicious crepes and melted tortilla (quesadillas). Everything is good, really. The coffee is also really good- one of the best cups of coffee you'll get in the centre. The owner, Alec, is such a nice guy and will probably be the one to take your order and serve you. He and the rest of the staff make an effort to learn everyone's names and regular orders, so if you're a repeat customer, he'll try to get your order ready for you as soon as you walk up. Winter had really started to roll in. I could've gone to the usual cafes closer to the station but this little place with cute seating outside its' kiosk caught my eye. Then a sign that I had never seen in my life was before me: HAPPY COFFEE HOUR. That's right kids, you heard it from me. Between 7-9am, a regular coffee is only $2.50 (large $3.00) from the usual $3.50!!! That's a whopping $1 off. Now if you're an avid coffee drinker that needs their caffeine fix every morning, 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year (2 weeks for holidays!), that would say you a crazy $250 a year! The best part is, the coffee is amazing. My usual drink, the flat white, had that perfect velvety top and their blend is aromatic and flavourful. Not to mention, the service is top notch! Super friendly and warm. I can't wait to race back to this place. I am such a BIG fan. I will have to get my teeth into those desserts next time as well. I'm greeted with a 'Hello Gorgeous' by the Barista who remembers my order, though I don't come here daily. They dish up hearty, fresh Italian cuisine and I've enjoyed all manner of tasty food from them over the years. I love the fact that they sell their wraps in half measures, so you can mix and match flavours or keep it light, so you can fill up on their delicious sweet items. My son loves the cute chocolate cupcakes they sell, in fact they're the only cakes he will eat (I often wonder if he is indeed mine). They come with a variety of jelly characters on the top and my kid is a fan of the pink penguin. Apparently there are hysterical meltdowns if the favoured character is not available. Apparently. When I was there yesterday, they were pushing the 'Cimbelle alla Nutella', an Italian doughnut slathered with Nutella and then squashed in the sandwich press. Nice idea but if I actually ate that I'd have to run home to sit on the toilet like Elvis. Glorious spot with glorious personable staff. Go.

While the Annex does do good food, their menu is very very limited (as they don't really have a kitchen to cook anything). Last time I went there were literally only one or two things I would consider ordering off it. Admittedly that was the Xmas menu, but I still remember it being like that before as well. Coupled with the limited options some of the food can be on the more expensive side (for what you get). If you like coffee I think you will probably love this place, if you're like me then you could be a bit indifferent to the whole thing and find yourself thinking about the $5 burgers next door...

Whether or not it was influenced by being my first stop for coffee this morning or just a damn fine experience, I am really happy that I ended up here. Started off with a batch brew made with Nicaraguan single origin from Sample Coffee Roasters. It was much darker than I would normally expect from Sample, but with this darkness came a really nice body and slight english breakfast finish. Unfortunately as the coffee was getting on a bit, many of the florals had flown, but what was left was still a very enjoyable start to the day. But then when the Umami long black came out, the aroma almost had me salivating. A robust and smooth body, it had a perfect balance highlighted with light florals and light winey back end to make it all worthwhile. Basically...yum. So if you are in the area and want a great coffee, this seems like a great option. Oh...and they do food.... :-) Coffee: Umami Passion: 8/10 Crema: 9/10

But I guess cuteness comes at a price, because things here are just a bit exxy by Asian standards. Sure, you'd probably expect to pay $7 for a smoothie, $6 for an iced coffee or $9 for a slice of cake in any other cafe but somehow it just seems wrong when you're in Eastwood. But hey, it tastes good and it looks SO FREAKING CUTE so I'll let it slide. Service can be a bit iffy, with several tables staying uncleared for the whole time I was there and staff not being able to explain several items on their menu. And be prepared to carry your own food and drinks with you if you sit upstairs. These guys are open til late, so it's usually packed on any night of the week with students and their laptops using the wifi. But hey, they're probably pretty cute too so it all just adds to the charm.

Or maybe great moments I shared with loved ones over a delicious cake or two that it has become a tradition to come here whenever we're in the area.
