Fifty years ago, I stood on the low grade bank of the river near Bobwhite Road just a few feet away from a 50 acre field where I had planted Soybeans. The soil is so rich that chemical fertilizer was not used. Perhaps some of the best topsoil in Georgia because of decades of the Chattahoochee River overflowing into this location and other natural lowlands. It's still pretty much as natural as it was 50 years ago. I highly recommend this private, not crowded area for a good place to actually walk up and touch the river water. read more

We came here mid-morning on a Sunday for a hike. We stopped at the ranger station / gift shop to pay the $5 parking fee. We then proceeded to the end of the road and parked at the lot next to the river. We did the hike along the river. The trail map says it is over 5 miles, but we just wanted to do around 3 total. We passed a couple of markers for 0.5 and 1 miles and hoped to find the 1.5 mile marker as our turn-around spot, but we never saw it. I suspect we were approaching 2 miles when we turned around. The trail was pretty, especially with the fall leaves. We only encountered maybe 4 other hiking groups during our walk. If you are in the area, this is a pleasant area for hiking. read more

Had a great November day hiking the Riverside Trail end-to-end-to-end (11 miles). Met only 2 hikers the whole time. Saw squirrels, armadillos, and white-tail deer. With all of the freshly-fallen leaves, at times the trail was discernable only by rectangular markers on trees. In a few places there were ribbons tied around trees in a way that would lead you off the trail if you followed them. I had fun imagining that the Blair Witch put them there. read more

Chattahoochee Bend State Park is located in South Georgia and I wanted to check it out mainly because I was curious about the town of Newnan. Hubby and I talked about if we were to move to South Georgia, what about Newnan. So my excuse is, let's go hiking haha. Newnan is a growing city and I like it. It has everything you need but still is considered a "small town." When we got to Chattahoochee Bend State Park, it reminded me of Jones Bridge Park mainly because of the Chattahoochee River. Now, it's not the prettiest river but it is a significant one. The trails are in the forest by the river. It's not a hard trail, everything is flat. We walked up to the observation deck. It is like a tree house. Kids will love it. The park has lots of camping and trails are kid friendly. Since it's a state park, $5 for parking or $75 for the annual pass (can be used at any state park). We went to the visitor center to get a map and everyone was friendly. Even the people who we met along the way on the trail. Definitely worth checking out but isn't my favorite. 42/2020 read more

Came here today (Sunday Feb 18, 2018 between 2pm -6pm for a hike). As many other reviewers have mentioned, they have all the amenities of a state or national park, including hiking and biking trails, full hookup RV and also primitive (tent) campsites. Plenty of public bath houses. Several different trails with several difficulty levels (the 1 or so mile trail along the river is very nice). Everything is well preserved and the sites are nice and mostly level for many different lengths of RV's. They also have cabins for rent which are very nice and relatively new (within last 8 years). All in all a great visit and highly recommend! read more

We camped here for two nights and would recommend it. We were in campground 1 with our RV. The parking spots were large and very clean and well maintained by the maintenance staff. Clean bathroom with showers. The showers have hooks for your clothes and showering supplies, yay! Lots of trails. The only thing bad was the great overuse of pink cleanser in the toilets. A good daily brushing with vinegar would be a lot more environmentally friendly and better on the septic system. read more

we had a great time this past weekend getting out to CBSP. The trails are all fairly flat and that was just was what I was looking for. I've had some back issues, so was definitely not looking for much elevation changes. That said, since it is a bit flat, it was also muddy due to the recent rains the day before, but not overwhelming so. So the ease of hike and the proximity to Atlanta was a big plus for us. We went with the rangers suggestion to go along the river, then opted to pickup the blue trail 5K loop back through the woods. It does spit you out onto the road, but just for short while. We thought the trails were well maintained. The only Ranger we interacted with was at the visitor's center and she was happy to advise of of a nice flat trail along the water. It does appear that there's not a ton of visitors, but we prefer that to a park like Sweetwater that is packed from start to finish year round. read more

Gave me a ticket stating I was there "after dark" wrote the ticket over an hour from the time it was wrote. Thank God for iPhones showing the time when a photo was taken. I then had to go to the station to get the ticket dropped where the front desk lady kept talking me into just buying an annual pass because it was only "$5 more than the ticket", finally got them to drop it but it was a whole ore deal... While the staff at the visitors center are awesome, helpful and friendly the Naturalist who host events were rude, intolerant and not friendly. We arrived for grandparents day event at 12:15 for the 12-1 paint a pinecone with your grandkids and were told "it's 12:20." I stated we thought it went from 12 TO 1 and she dismissed me. The grandkids were very disappointed and we couldn't believe they were so rude. It's not like they were doing anything much and apparently they need to change the calendar to state 12 noon on the dot!!! Terrible representation of people trying to promote nature and celebrate grandparents and grandchildren who camp together. Shame shame on all three of you!! Georgia State Parks these people are not good promoters of your amazing state parks and the image you would like to promote. read more

This review is for the 11-mile combined Riverwalk/Bend Trails, which I did for my first trip here. The trailhead is at the edge of the river, and I'm just going to go all SPOILER ALERT here and tell you that the view here is really as good as you'll find along the whole trail. So there's one for the lazy among you. But is it such a bad thing to wander alongside a wooded path along that river? [Rhetorical question, don't answer.] And so the trail goes for about a mile until you make it to the tower. As most reviews state, you don't really get an enhanced view from the top but it's worth climbing because, well, it's there. The trail then goes on and becomes the Bend trail at some point, and the park helpfully posts markers at every half-mile. It was a bit muddy early on, which wasn't helped by a bridge out along the 1.5-2.0 segment of the trail - I had to jump across a creek to clear it only to land in quicksand-like mud that necessitated a trip to the shoe store later that day to replace some footwear that would take longer to clean than an 11-mile hike would take. The trail was generally easy to follow with one bendy exception around 2.5 miles where you wind up at the river again (for the last time as it turns out, and at an appropriate part where the Chattahoochee actually bends). Had I not retained a copy of the trail map I don't know that I would have easily progressed. I'm going to be honest here - I enjoy walking in the woods, but in early February that's pretty much what this hike was - there isn't any scenic viewpoint that did anything for me. At the 4-mile point there's a meadow scene out of the woods that is nice enough. It then takes you to the EXTREMELY anticlimactic ending of a bathroom with a sign saying "End Of Trail." Really? I kept along the gravel path nearby just to see the river for one last view - I hadn't gone that far for nothing. The walk back was a little more difficult to follow - I got briefly lost twice but I eventually made it back. It took me 4 hours at a generally nonstop pace. There is supposed to be another 1-mile trail near the entrance to the park that is supposed to be nice, but I'd done all the hiking I could do today, especially since I needed to buy some new shoes. read more

I am so glad I could spend my first time camping HERE. I drove out with my friends, and we just camped out for one night as we both live really close by. I had never pitched a tent, and it wouldn't have happened if not for the amazing campsite hosts we had. They went above and beyond for us. Everyone was very accommodating-- we were getting in late so at check-in they just left our things on the door for us to pick up. And the views were beautiful! We did several trails the next morning and came across tons of wildlife! Highly recommend getting involved at CBSP if you can! read more

Very clean state park with new facilities. They have cabins, RV and walk in tent camping. Didn't camp, but facilities looked very up to date. Some campsites offer more foliage privacy screens than others. See if they will let you scope your camping spot before you just pick one if privacy is an important issue to you. There is a boat ramp into the river with a playground, restrooms, and pavilion nearby. There is a primarily flat hiking trail by the river that goes to a tower. The tower is beneath the tree canopy and doesn't offer any better view of the river. $5 to park. Kayak rentals available for $30. read more

Very cool. The site we were on had clean restrooms about 75 yards from the campground. With hot showers! Hot showers! I was extremely impressed with that. That alone would keep me coming back. There was a water spicket near by as well. The only negative thing was that the camp sites that you could rent were within 15-30 yards of each other. I know it's for safety reasons but it's kills the vibe slightly if there's an extremely rowdy bunch nearby. There's a ranger type guy that rides around constantly though. read more

It's a nice state park. Great for hiking along the river, decent amenities. As far as camping goes, book early, it fills up fast.

This is a very well maintained state park. We enjoyed ourselves. The only drawback is there are no bodies of water nearby. The Chattahoochee river is there but you have to drive to various points to put in inter tubes and kayaks. The park rangers and office staff were very helpful and friendly to help in any way. read more

I don't even know where to begin. This place was such a letdown. The trails were overgrown and uninspired. You could see the road from most of the trail we were on. At one points we were walking under power lines this is where we picked up the ticks I think. I'd never walked into that many spider webs before we went there! Not really the parks fault but it does say something about the lack of hikers. There wasn't really a pay off on the hike. Just takes you to the Chattahoochee, again I'm not sure what I was expecting. I've just set a high bar having visited so many parks. We won't be back and I really can't give this place any more than a star. The shop was overpriced and the shirts were really boring. Everything we've come to expect from GA state parks this one didn't have. Bummer. read more

Such a pretty park and so close to home! We love hiking down by the river, very easy walking trails but there are also more difficult terrains and longer trails starting by the welcome center if you're looking for more of a workout. Definitely recommend getting an annual park pass if you live nearby! We haven't camped here yet but plan to as soon as winter is over. read more

I love that there is a State Park close to my home. We use the hiking trails here . Hiking by the river is a great experience.

This place was okay. Office staff were super nice although the campground host was a jerk. Was definitely more a "hiking park" than anything. Campsites were okay but close together. Zero fishing. Unless you throw out from the boat ramp. If there's even a chance of storms later in the day, they cancel canoes and kayaks. read more

My wife and I visited Chattahoochee Bend State Park last week and we had a great time. Although the park is way off I85, directions to the park were clear. The roads weren't crowded and the ride took us through some beautiful country. The park is well maintained and it's easy to navigate through the park. The facilities were like new. We stopped at the Visitor's Center and the staff treated us like we were family. We went for a short hike from the boat ramp down to the observation tower. Even though it had rained a few days earlier the trails were all in good shape. We saw a beaver and several armadillos on the way out to the tower. We had a great view of the river along most of the hike. For the most part the forest is old hardwood with light undergrowth. The trail itself was easy to hike and wide enough that my wife and I had no problem walking side by side the entire way. It was a fun, relaxing and beautiful hike. Only negative I could find were the size of the campsites. They were small, close together. There wasn't much screening between the campsites. I got the distinct impression that you wouldn't have much privacy on a camping trip. I plan on returning often and will give camping a try when the weather warms up a touch. If you're looking for a great way to escape the city, the stress and the noise for a few hours, take a ride down to Chattahoochee Bend State Park. You won't regret it. read more

Great facilities. Park map could be more accurate but very nice well cared for park. Took our boy scout troop there this weekend. If you camp with a tent bring a pad to sleep on. The sites are all set on very fine cut gravel but gets uncomfortable to sleep on. read more

I have been all over the country. Anywhere from New Jersey to Alaska through Montana or Texas I have seen it all in an almost 20 year military career worth of traveling PCS. This park was one of the cleanest most well kept I've seen. It's super quite and relaxed. I stayed in campground area 1 in a 28 foot RV. The area is incredible. If your in the area I highly recommend. This is not a loud party type place. This park has the be respectful of your neighbors feel. read more
