We took probably 20-30 minutes inside, then hopped on a golf cart for the guided part of the tour. It ended up taking about an hour to an hour and a half. Our guide was so knowledgeable and made learning fun (per my kids!). If you want to learn a little history in a relaxed and engaging environment, you should stop in here! Keep in mind that most of the tour/museum is outside, so if you don't want to get wet or be too cold or too hot, plan your visit with the weather in mind.

But once we boarded the golf cart on the guided tour with Jody, that all changed. The weather was great, which always helps but the knowledge Jody shared at each stop took us back in history. As a teacher, I appreciated each detail and he (Jody) was always ready to answer questions. The property around the museum is where all of the history took place and Tunnel Hill takes great pride in their local treasure. I was surprised to learn all the seemingly small place had to offer. Kudos to all the people who work hard to keep this place alive. My kids and I had a great visit! I will note that it is more for middle school and up. And it's good for the kids to already have some knowledge about the Civil War. I only rate it one star less than perfect because the displays and mannequins need quite a bit of updating. We checked in in the middle of the night, so we couldn't see much. We knew we had to cross a new bridge and when we did we could make the outline of the cabin, which we already knew was on the smaller size. When we walked in and soaked the place up it seems so much larger inside. The space was so efficiently built that there was a living room, full kitchen and the sleeping area upstairs. By knows means is it Ginormous though. We slept great and the next morning we were treated to the view of horses, sheep, chicken and goats in the pasture back beyond the bridge and field we came in from. We explored the farm over the next couple days and the mountains too. But usually we were happy to come back, sit on the porch and talk or read a book or watch a movie at one point. My dog loved the area and the cabin. He is crate trained and seemed to think of the cabin as one big crate for his "pack". Although I like to mix it up when traveling, I think we may end up staying at the cabin again.

There is a big cabin in the back of the property and lots of trails. Nice shade trees and flowing fields of green. The place has a bath house the is kept neat and tidy. Everything everywhere was neat and clean. Sunshine at the front reception had a very bubbly and helpful personality. There are several different things to do while you are here. I liked exploring the woods that led to a small waterfall . It smelled so fresh and new because of all the greenery. I felt so far from civilization but wasn't. It was only about $40 a day with water and power hook up. You can get a sewer hookup for $10 more but the dump station is free down the path not too far from the campsites. I am looking forward to returning here. I love the peacefulness and tranquility of the place. I just wish I could of jumped in the lake for a swim but I don't think that is allowed. The stream in the woods was very cool and refreshing though. I love this place!
