Snow condition ok when we were there with temps in the mid 20s, a bit icy in the more shaded areas, better on the sunnier slopes. There are several unattended boot/bag storage areas and shelves. No view of Lake Louise from the mountain however although still scenic with great views of snow covered peaks. The lodges tend to get really crowded during peak lunch times. Only thing is getting there is 40 minutes drive from Banff and buses are usually packed and sometimes late so if trying to get there for the 10 am mountain tour (2 hours organized by skill level) could be tricky unless you leave much earlier. One day we got there at exactly 3 minutes past 10 and all the tours had left with no host in sight (generally there are no resort staff anywhere to be seen to help out unlike at US resorts). If staying closer to town center you'll get picked up later and more likely have to wait as the buses will be full by the time they get to your location. Ski/board storage in luggage compartment under the bus, some have limited shelves some just in a jammed pile. Might want to consider putting skis in a bag or get some protection for the bindings as people are not at all careful when loading and unloading. They still give out trail maps in the lodges. The outdoor ice bar is a fun place for a drink.

There are lots of lots and they open them up as needed. After unloading in the clearly marked zone, which was well organized, I was able find a spot in the main lot. There are plenty of beginner to intermediate runs and I love that the runs are long, especially compared to other places in the area. The back side is a lot of fun and there are so many lifts, you can mix it up and never really get bored. The food selection here is pretty good as they have a ramen place, which really hit the spot on a ski day.

Stayed in two different chalets - garden and dragonfly…read more Dragonfly had a great view. Sitting in the hot tub overlooking the mountains was wonderfully relaxing! Both chalets had excellent bed linens and comfortable beds, which along with the crisp mountain air made for wonderful nights' sleep. I liked the layout of the Garden Chalet better, and appreciated the dimmer switches on the lights and the high kitchen counter bar and the high dining table. The shower was better too, although the Dragonfly bathroom was more practically laid out. You don't have much privacy at the garden chalet, with windows to parking and paths on most sides. Dragonfly is more secluded. Oddly, the kitchen dishes and equipment was different at the two chalets.

We absolutely love it...so we decided to visit again for my Birthday this past weekend. There are 3 chalets to choose from, although we always book the Cedar Chalet. Darrin had a fire going in the wood stove when we got there, making it warm and inviting after our long drive. There's a fully equipped kitchen, a big couch that's perfect for cuddling up by the fire and the bed is ridiculously comfortable...which made it very difficult to get up on time to hit the slopes the next day. If you are staying at the chalet, you absolutely must visit the restaurant! I can easily say that the best meals I have ever had, have been at the Cedar House! The menu always has an interesting variety of dishes, as well as great vegetarian options. On our last visit, my husband and I shared their delicious Bison turnovers as an appetizer. For our main course, Darrin recommended the sablefish, which was so tender it almost melts in your mouth! After our dessert we returned to our chalet for a soak in the private hot tub and watched the stars. The Cedar House is truly the perfect place for a romantic weekend in the mountains! Darrin is a wonderful host and always makes sure we are well cared for and comfortable. Can't wait to go back!

I showed up on a Friday when it was raining at the bottom and lift lines were still 45 plus minutes. That's what you get for your $200. Lodges are old and offer food that is sub-par compared to other resorts in its price range. It's clear that investment has prioritized building a ski village - I guess so you can stare at the muddy slope that is supposed to have snow on it. I couldn't afford it then and now it still a bit expensive, but hey there are no chair lifts where these guys take you, and you do not want to walk up the Purcell portion of the Canadian Rockies. OK, you land in Calgary, then zoom west with your rental towards the BC border, you get a ticket for speeding from the local RCMP (Mounties are very polite, but they always get their California guy) because they claim they don't want you to hit a moose (OK, this is valid; hitting a moose with your car will have the same result as if a house fell and crushed your vehicle--they are big). You can spend the night in Banff visit the local pubs, get up the next morning (or crawl from the pub) and drive up to Golden at the heli pad. Safety is important, so you spend the morning at the center (or is it centre, sorry my Canuck bros) getting to know your ski mates and guides. If you're lucky, Rudi will go with you. You will spend time practicing using your avalanche locator beacon that will emit a signal in case you are buried in an avalanche.It will be around your neck. Everyone does dummy runs trying to locate a 'victim' and not each other. The trip itself? I signed up for 3 runs (and these are loooong runs)., Unfortunately, my cerbral cortex was destroyed by over imbibing in Skyy Vodka martinis the night before, and I elected to use very old fashioned non-fat-boy 203s skis and paid the price of being unable to turn in the deep snow once I was up in powder land. Basically, as the company brochures imply, they take you up by helicopter and drop you off and you ski down. Well, it's more to it. It's fantastic to be able to hover over these cornices and drops. Once the pilot chooses a suitable landing spot, you jump out and put your skis or snow boards on. Big mistake when I accidentally took off my gloves at the same time the helicopter was taking off...the down blast blew my gloves completely off my hand and the gloves nearly went over the cliff -- not good to ski the remote part of the Rockies with one glove. The view from these remote places? Surreal. It looks so beautiful up there that it almost looks like a phony velvet painting. You need to follow the guides carefully, because one small turn could mean getting lost, and YOU WILL BE BEAR FOOD if you lose your party up there. Never mind, it won't happen because there are guides to the front and to the rear of your group. As for the skiing? what can I say, there's no one else up there but your group and fresh powder. What a great place! I spent a week there ski touring in February, 2010 and can't recommend it too…read morehighly. Great skiing terrain, good food and interesting people. What could be a better combination. The lodge is warm and inviting, and would be a perfect place to hang out for the day if you didn't want to ski. The sauna is definitely warm, the way a sauna is supposed to be, is a perfect finish to a long day of skiing. Dave is a good leader, and intimately knowledgeable with the terrain, finding good skiing even in those rare periods between fresh snow. As a special added bonus, in the entire week we did not hear an internal combustion engine. If you want to get away, this is the place. No helicopters (except to get you in and out), and no snow machines. All in all, a great week.

When we reported the problem, the staff just dropped off new sheets and we had to make up the bed ourselves. No new toiletries were provided...just the remnants of what the previous guests had left. Out of toilet paper. When we checked out, the clerk took our contact information and promised the General Manager would be in touch. She never called us back, even when I left another message.

But if you need more than that, let me help you out…read more Ski in/ski out - The Palliser is located right at the base of Kicking Horse so you you can ski from the hotel down to the gondola, and head back to your room on your last run of the day. It's just a short walk though, if you feel like hanging out at the restaurant or grabbing a caesar at the on hill pub at the end of the day. It's good quality and it's casual. It's classy enough for a romantic getaway, but not the kind of place you'd feel uncomfortable bringing the kids. Both the rooms in the 2 bedroom are of a decently equal size so it's a good place for groups of friends or couples to stay, as well as family. No one will wind up feeling miffed that they paid full price for a trip and wound up staying in the kids' room. The floor plan is really nice and open concept and has a large kitchen island with bar seating. There's a pullout couch in the living room so the place could sleep up to 6, if you're so inclined. If you're staying in the middle of the rockies and you need to watch TV, I think you're doing it wrong. But if you're addicted to the boob-tube, there's 3 flat-screen options - One for both of the bedrooms and one in the living room. The hot tub says max 3, but I won't tell anyone if you put in more. It seats 4 people very easily, you could cram in 6 if you don't mind playing "Who's Foot is That? The ice machine is in the parkade.
