Came here to buy an outfit for a wedding. I was told a price and bought it without looking at the receipt. I eventually seen the statement charged on my credit card later that day and it was more than it should have been. I then looked at both my receipts (what they printed and what was charged) and there was a $10 uncharge. Pretty messed up on how they conduct business. I would give zero stars if I could. Not an honest store. They scammed me. I bought a jewelry set original price was $65 he said he would sell to me for $60 which I think is still overpriced and double what I could get on Amazon but I needed it quick so I bought from here. I also paid $30 for alteration. But when I returned home I saw that he charged me $97.88. That's way more than the expected amount I agreed to pay. When I tried to call back to the store, they ignored my calls. No point wasting gas to go out there to try to get my money back. But I would stay away. Their clothes are ugly and dull anyways. My sister is getting married in two weeks and we needed to find our Salwar suits. The shop is very tidy and they have many option from sizes 38 to 46. My sisters friend who will be a guest was also with us and I did like that the gentleman behind the counter offered advice on what a guest should wear vs what family of the bride should wear. It was helpful and guided us to choose what we ended up going with. However I didn't like that we explained our price points and weren't told numbers until we were up at the register. The price was over double then what we mentioned (knowing the price would go up). My Sulwar was $250 and after talking to relatives (in law) that seemed reasonable for all the beading and design. My sisters friend who is wearing a less formal design as a guest spent $238. I think she was taken advantage of and left feeling a bit she'll shocked. I understand this can be customary and a shopping experience like this is somewhat normal but just thought I'd give a honest view of the shopping experience here! Also, man who works here wasn't wearing a mask and it gave a uneasy feeling. Let me start by saying, if I could give zero stars, I would. I have been here a handful of times now and each time I have interacted with a different member of the staff. I can safely say they are all ignorant, rude and disrespectful. My first interaction was when I came wedding shopping. When I come to shop at Indian stores I do not expect any customer service, but the man helping us this day was so ill-mannered it shocked me. I showed him pictures of what I liked and instead of just saying that he doesn't have what I'm looking for in the store he talked over me and told me I have bad taste. I am so glad I did not order any of my wedding outfits from them especially after coming on here now and seeing how many people have been scammed by this place. My next few interactions were regarding outfits I was gifted from this place. The owner had promised the buyer at the time of purchase that he would honor exchanges of the same value. He did not. He will say anything to make the sale but will change it up on you once he's received the money. DO NOT TRUST HIM. Also, the smallest size the store carries is a 38. I am petite and this size is several inches large on me but the staff kept insisting during every visit that I'm not that skinny. Which I didn't take personally. This is just to show the lengths that they will go to make a sale. Overall the selection that they carry is not great either. The sizes they carry are not all inclusive. All of their ready made outfits are made of cheap fabrics and semi pure chunnis but start at around $290 each. Outfits I was gifted from here were missing critical pieces of the garment i.e. a sari was missing the blouse. Come here if you would like to be up-charged and verbally abused. read more

Poor customer service from everyone except the nice lady. Tailor did a bad job on the alterations on a dress we bought here. 1. It was three inches too short 2. The dress had a brand new stain 3. The bodice is misaligned. When we mentioned this the guy said the fit is fine and that the stain was not from them. We bought the dress from them. How was the stain not from them? Insane. Our only option to fix it was to drive around town and look for matching material to lengthen the skirt. What the hell? Also, they claim to have Sabyasachi clothing but are not a listed partner on their website. Very likely these are replicas. Horrible experience. Absolutely do not recommend unless you want to waste your time. Also, they are very rude when you ask any questions. I asked about a sherwani and one of the guys just yelled a price at me as he walked away. The icing on the cake is having the owner call us and shout at us after I left the review. All the racks are put together so who knows which have already been sold or are still available. I was just happy that it was done and ready to go. However, they don't have any bags. They should invest in some bags of some sort maybe even with their logo. Kind of disappointing to have spent a few hundred dollars and be given a dress in a old used plastic bag. Brother Milan is a great guy and this place is absolutely perfect. I've read many of the other reviews here, and it seems what others consider "cons" are what actually makes this place a life saver. I got married during Covid, and I didn't have any clothes nor did my family due to the lockdown we weren't able to fly to India. We visited this shop and not only were we able to find exactly what we needed for the entire family, it looked better than if we had went to India and bought the outfits and it was in fact cheaper than any place in the US. Sure, if you walk in you may see things kinda spread out and everywhere but who cares? In my opinion, what matters if output not the aesthetic of the shop. If I walked into some shop that looked beautiful from the outside but couldn't find a damn thing inside would it constitute a good review? Therefore, I believe the way it's currently set up helps Milan and everyone operate efficiently. I was able to get everything altered multiple times, customized how I wanted and was able to check up on the status anytime of any day. Please guys, before you read reviews of people who say this guy "follows me" or the shop is "disorganized", just send me a message and I'll link you to the photographer who took my wedding pictures of my outfit and accessories and you won't care how he gets it done. This isn't a restaurant that needs a review based on ambiance, it's a clothing store that produces great quality clothing comparable to both quality and price to India. I have visited and shopped at many ethnic clothing stores and while very few have good customer service chawla has exceptionally bad customer service and thus stands out. I brought family members, two of whom were elderly, and we were all spoken to rudely and dismissed. Out of sheer desperation I purchased an outfit where the pants style was accidentally switched and when I brought it back I was told no because I had purchased a mismatched outfit. I informed the man that his employee had packaged it for me right in front of him which is why I didn't check the outfit against for a second time in store and that I wasn't asking for a refund but was still met with rude words and hand gestures. Disgusted by my experience and by the fact that as I was leaving the second (and last) time the younger man was taking a cash payment from young girls and kept insisting they do not tell anyone he gave them a "deal". My all time favorite 1 stop shop for everything indian. Living in the Bay and driving up to Sac for indian clothes really is saying alot, I mean Hayward, Fremont, Union City and Berkely have tons of indian clothing shops but they don't match up to the quality that they have here. The shop is full of differnt types of outfits, some displayed and others bagged up on shelf. They have all sizes here and the owner strives to get nice things in larger sizes because he himself knows it can be hard to get something in bugger sizes other places. Customer service is always really good, as all indian shops they do get busy so it may take longer to be seen or to try something on (only 1 fitting room). The owner and his son are really friendly and remember a face. The prices are amazing, you totally get the best bang for your buck here. They have grooms hats, indian shoes and a huge selection of jewellery (bangles, earings, sets). They also offer the option of having something specially ordered and made in India for customers (all you need is the photo of what you want and they will take your measurements (haven't done this yet but am going to soon) We come here for a 1 stop shop for the whole family with alterations included as they have a tailor on site. read more

The skirt fit okay, the top needed to be opened and I wanted the sleeves attached. They charged me 25 for the tailor and 35 bucks for earrings.Okay. She told me it will be done, give her 2 weeks. 2 weeks, I call, it's not ready. 3rd week I call and it finally came. MY GOD THE SHIRT WAS DESTROYED. The sleeves were put on backwards, the zipper was half sewn, there are strings everywhere, and it STILL DIDNT FIT. I sent it back to be fixed. Another 2 weeks, I'm fighting for it to be done. It's in even worse condition than before. Is this tailor brand new!?? And they yelled at me that if I don't like it to do it myself?? I'm sorry, I guess when I gave you 25 bucks I thought your tailor would know how sleeves are put? If not Atleast sew them the right way and not backwards? The cutting was so bad. The zipper was worse, it didn't even zip up all the way cause it wasn't sewn properly and so many free loose strings. GUESS WHAT, I HAD TO DO MY OWN SHIRT. Took me 2-3 hours to take out every stupid stitch and 2 days of my time to sew everything by hand, including re-doing the zipper. JUST FOR THE SHIRT. A small lehenga shirt. Best part, tried to wear the earrings, the backs wouldn't even close. I wasted so much hard earned money and time for this absolutely horrible service. The store itself is absolute trash, the carpets are so filthy and dirty, the store is dirty, you don't even want to stay in for longer than few minutes. I visited this place for the first time to pick a dress with my friends for her wedding. My very first impression as I walked in: disorganized! The good thing about this store are their reasonable prices. However, the cons May have outweigh the pros! When I went in to pick the dress for my friend, I asked the front desk men about the dress. I was really disappointed to see him just pick the dress from the floor and hand it to me. This is someone's bridal outfit, and seeing it just thrown on the floor was not a very nice way to go about it, especially when we are paying them. I then asked him about alterations and he told me to go to the lady in the back. Well, another disappointment to see the lady so disorganized. My friend has already given her the alteration measurements, however it was still difficult for her to recall. If they had a better organization then I'm sure this wouldn't have been a problem. The. Lady then told us to come back after a week to get the dress. Fast forward to the pick up week. I went in again to pick the final altered dress. I was actually really excited to see the final product. I went to the lady to ask for the dress and she just pointed at the rack. Let me tell you, there are TONS of dresses on the rack packed together. I again asked her and she just pointed it on the rack. I really had to dig in the rack to find it. Well, after I found it I wasn't sure where to go to ask if this dress is the final dress product because the alteration lady didn't know much about it. I then waited for one of the people to be available to I could ask. I went to ask one of the dudes there to see if the dress had the dupatta. Safe to say, he didn't know. I went to another lady who also works there and told her this dress didn't have the dupatta and she asked me if I was sure that I didn't take the dupatta with me before. I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED to hear this. Where is the organization if This is a professional business? Where are the records of the purchases? Well, the lady found the dupatta again from the floor with tons of clothes. Then I asked if the can give me a bag because the dress was heavy. I visited chawla's store to pick up my groomsmen outfit for a wedding. The outfit came back with cheaper quality than expected. The kurta was very thin and see-through even though this was a custom-made. My pajami would not even fit through my legs because the opening was too small. I brought this to the attention of the semesters and owner, and they offered to adjust it. I also ordered a 6m pagh that requires stiching. When picking up the outfit after the alterations, the pants leg was not stiched properly. There were strings coming out of the seems. I also found my pagh wasn't the correct length. I brought this to the attention of chalwa employees and milan, and they accused me of cutting the pagh short, and it was not their fault. I also showed them the seems of the pants, and they said that for alterations, it costs money. I argue that it is your responsibility to make sure the suit fits the customer like promised. Also, it is your responsibility to cut the pagh the correct length. The owner milan came and diffused the situation. In addition, other employees were rude and accused me of cutting the pagh, and they said to my mom, "If you dont like the stiching, do it yourself." At the end of the day, I would avoid coming back here again and wasting your time and money read more

DO NOT GIVE THIS GUY YOUR MONEY. He will lie, scam, and cheat you. He did not make an outfit for an engagement and left us empty handed two months before the engagement. In December we ordered a custom outfit that was promised to arrive in February. We paid the full amount in cash up front. We called him at the end of February and he gaslighted us by saying that he said the outfit would be here in March. In the first week of March we called him and he said it wasn't ready yet. After multiple calls he kept telling us to call later and it would be here. Then he gave us the excuse that it was held up in customs. Then he told us that he was going to India soon but he would personally give it to us before he left. By mid-March we were calling almost every day and we kept hearing excuses. The next time we called, the owner's dad picked up the phone and said the owner was in India (true) for an emergency (lie). He mentioned packages arrived and for us to come in and look. When we got there, we looked through the boxes and our outfit was not in there. However, there were many similar outfits to what we had ordered. He will tell you your outfit is custom, but sells everyone the same thing. Luckily we did get our money back but we have no engagement outfit for an event two months away. When I brought my WEDDING dress in to be tailored, they told me they could have it ready at the end of October but I told them I needed it the first weekend of October. They said okay and that they will have it ready for me in time and that they will call me when it's ready. They took down my number and charged me $80 to have it done quickly. Unfortunately the dresses wasn't ready by my wedding date so we pushed our date back. Fast forwarding to the first week of November, I called to check on the status of my dress. They said it was ready and to come in to pick it up. When I went in, the dress wasn't even there and they said that it hasn't been tailored. I got into an argument with one of the workers and they said the tailor was sick and didn't have it done. When I ask for a full refund they said no. When I ask why it wasn't done in time, they said the tailor was sick with COVID!!!!!!!! When I asked why they didn't call me they said they don't call people even though he told me they would. A man approached us, who is supposedly the owner, and told us they will have the dress here by Friday and hand deliver it. Again when I ask about being reimbursed, he said he will only give me $30. I paid $80!!! I asked for a full refund and he finally agreed to it and said he will call me but when I clarify and asked again he told me to call him at noon the next day. So I call the next day and they said the dress was ready and to come get it. At this point, I expect to pick up my dress and get my full refund. My dress was ready but he denied my full refund and only offered $30 back. At this point we started arguing and he started yelling over me. He even said himself that he is not a good businessman.
