Immediately the two women there helped me, I told them my budget and was able to work with that. This place is hit and miss for Indian clothing. They do have great customer service. At times, they carry good selections for bigger sizes. Indian stores are completely run differently then American stores. You have to ask them and they will show their pieces since these are expensive clothing. And needs to handled carefully. It's not like going to American stores and items are hanging on the rack. Horrible, horrible customer customer service. My friend and I walked in to look for a couple different outfits that we need for a friend's 4-day wedding event coming up. The staff didn't greet us when we walked in and didn't ask if we needed help until we were walking around for awhile. I told them that we were just browsing because we wanted to look at a couple other places, (unless if we fell in love with an outfit). I took a picture of this outfit that I liked and didn't realize that I wasn't supposed to take a picture, oops. But oh well! They were hesitant to take items out of the bags to show us after I said we were browsing today. I just didn't want to be pressured into buying anything. WHOA. Randomly drove by on Stockton Blvd and saw Roopam's beautiful window display, and just had to go in. First impressions upon walking in: very well-lit, spacious with high ceilings, and the walls and floors packed with fashion. I walked the floor soaked up the gorgeous clothing all around me, including a killer designer line from Aishwarya Rai. There was a back table with this gorgeous white saree spread out across it, the fabric just STUNNED me... I know glitter and sequins and rhinestones are not rare in Indian clothing, but this fabric's embellishments were SO bright and sparkly, I'd have sworn they were diamonds! To address another reviewer's concerns, I'm *way* non-Indian and got fine service. I was greeted promptly and a lady offered to help me. Granted I was just browsing, so I don't know if it would've been different if I was actively trying to make a purchase. All I know is this place impressed me and I'll be headed back the next time I'm in need of some Indian fabulosity. read more

If you are an intelligent person and look at your clothes before you buy them due to multiple inconsistencies in Indian clothing like unfinished design, snagging or stitching issues. And you decide to bring it to their attention because that one piece your child must have and they don't have another one of that same design watch out!! I came here last minute to buy a Saree for my wedding after endless issues with online orders. I am from Reno and we do not have any Indian clothing stores nearby. My fiancé and I are doing a small wedding ceremony and because I am not Indian, I wanted to incorporate some traditional American details by wearing white. After coming here in the past with my mother-in-law and having nothing but successful visits, I just knew Roopam was the place to go because their selection/inventory is phenomenal! Kay, who was absolutely lovely, whipped out various white Sarees and laid them out for me. Within 15 minutes of my visit, I found my dress and they were so kind to wrap it on me. It literally was everything I was looking for and more. She continued to help and provide exceptional customer care to my mom, sister, and best friend who all found their dresses in literally less than an hour and a half. This was a wonderful experience for all of us and we were all so pleased with such hands on help. They made us feel so comfortable, especially with not being the most familiar with this type of fashion. I recommend Roopam in Sacramento x a million - for both the inventory and customer service. I even went as far as driving all the way back the next day with my fiancé so he could get an Indian suite; he too found one within the first 15 minutes of our arrival. The store is nice and clean and organized and at first glance seems pretty glamorous and on trend. However, the close you look at it, the worse things get. Most of the party dresses are "one-of-a-kind" assembly line pieces, all in the same size. I have a feeling that these dresses are from the wardrobe of one of their family members as the designs and styles range all the way back to 2007. The guy seemed nice enough at first but when he noticed that he wasn't really going to make a sale, he did become a bit more nonchalant about the whole thing. Furthermore, we asked for a specific style of dress and he pointed everything else from 2-3 years ago. The kids clothes were nice. I saw a couple of things I'd put my nephew in but other than that, there's not much there that is worth the trip. read more

The hours say they close at 7 & I was going to be there 5 min before they close (mind you just to pick it up). She hung up & was soo rude & said pick it up on Tuesday even though I told her I have a flight that morning. They also said they would alter my suit, which they did not. My fiance went in to purchase a dress for our Nikkah from here. She's not Indian or Pakistani, so instead of educating and helping her out with the right dress in our culture, they rushed her into a sale. The pattern on the dress does not go all the way around. The dress was dirty when unpacked at home. Upon discovering this, she called the shop and the owner laughed at her for not checking the dress and trusting the staff prior to the purchase. Stay away from this place with characterless staff. I am in LA but will be driving to Sacramento tomorrow so I will personally stop there to see if they correct themselves. As a non-Indian, I really did not feel welcomed. They have an incredible selection, though. I was looking to get measured for indian clothes for a wedding but they told me they didn't do measurements. I thought that was very odd. The man who approached me was pleasant enough and redirected me to Bollywood Fashions around the corner on Lindale Street. I was happy to leave. For selection, you may want Roopam but seriously an awkward and unwelcome experience if you are non-Indian. If you are non-Indian and would like to feel welcomed, go to Bollywood Fashions. Ranjitkur there was really sweet and helpful as was the gentleman behind the counter. They were amazing, helpful and kind. Bollywood Fashions is my first choice. read more

I've known Sunil for a long time when we use to do a lot of business with Roopam and Sunil was at Berkeley, closer to our home. I still visited Sunil in Sacramento from time to time every so often. My ill father who was on hospice care at home passed away peacefully at home on New Year's night. With so many responsibilities and preparations to make with funeral services, I could not afford the time to travel to Sacramento to buy funeral attire. I sent Sunil at Roopam an email advising him of my difficult situation for traveling. I asked Sunil if he would consider mailing me an attire to wear at the funeral services where I could send him the money. I told Sunil what I wanted, the size I wanted and gave him my home address. I was a bit skeptical, because I hadn't seen Sunil for a while and he never responded to my email. A couple of days later, I actually called Roopam and spoke with Sunil, not sure of what was happening. I explained to Sunil who I was, my situation with limited time to travel and advised him that one of my aunts would be stopping my his store (Sacramento) to pick up an outfit for me. This was of-course thinking that Sunil may have ignored my email and hadn't mailed anything off to me. Boy, was I wrong. Sunil told me that I was going to receive my outfit that afternoon. I still have to stop by the Roopam and pay Sunil for my outfits that was wonderful and fit perfectly. Being a customer of Roopam and Sunil's for over 20 years, Sunil went above and beyond anything I could have imagined. They fit perfect and the quality is so nice. They even packages in a nice zippered bag not like the plastic thin little bag I've had outfits usually come in. Staff were all friendly and very helpful! Great deal , a little more expensive than other places but such better quality and fit -so I'm happy. And really I'm surprised with how great the service was.
