The trooper told my husband to go ahead and leave while I went with our son in the ambulance to get him checked out, that Cheatwood wouldn't take the car to our son's house, but would tow it to their lot. This was around 1 in the morning. They towed the car to their lot and didn't bother to call us any on the Thursday. We called on Friday, and were told that we could pick the car up before 5 pm, but if it stayed longer, there would be a $50 a day storage charge. We rented a trailer and went to pick up our Miata. When we got there, we were told the bill was over $400--$100 for two days of storage and $325 for the towing! That's nothing less than highway robbery. I've had my Class 8 tractor towed farther for less than that! We will NEVER use them again. If we have another incident of any sort and are told they are the ones on rotation, we will decline their services. And, we are telling all our friends about this and encouraging them not to use this company, either.

Driving from Florida, we were about an hour away from our destination. Searching through the internet for 24-hour roadside assistance, I reached the Heflin Texaco. A young woman answered the phone, I explained the issue and she told me the driver was out on a call and either he or she would call me back soon with any updates. And, soon they did. The owner himself drove out to find us. He put our truck on the back of the tow truck, drove us to a hotel in Heflin and told us he would work us in the next morning. He had us in right away, told us there was a part needed about 40 minutes away and that he would go get it himself. Long story cut back a bit. He retrieved the part, his mechanic worked on it and we were back on the road, just a few hours later. Talking with my mechanic back home, in Indiana, he gave me his price for the repair, which was right on the mark with Mr. Cheatwood's. I don't think we could have ever found any better place to have done business. It was obvious they were sincere in wanting to help us and help us get back on the road. I pray no one the situation we were in, but if it happens to you, I hope you are close enough to call Cheatwood's Texaco in Heflin, they will take great care of you. Billy Holbrook was to rebuild the transmission in my 1998 Honda Accord and he said he would do it…read morefor $1, 400. I should have been suspicious when he asked for $500 up front. So, about a month later, he has his wife call me and tell me that they need an additional $200 right now, and if I get it to them, they will have the car by the end of the week! It was like they were holding my car for ransom. I begrudgingly paid the $200 . . . but, guess what? No automobile by the end of the week. In fact, it was over a month before he got the car back to me. *He had the car from April 20 to June 22! When they called to tell me the car was ready, they asked that I bring the remaining money to them in cash, plus they increased the price by another $90!!! Their reasoning was that they've had customers in the past to stop payments on checks. Now, I wonder why that might have happened? I go to pick the car up, but I bring a check instead. I wanted to make sure I had a receipt, and it's just good business. His entire family comes out of the woods (mother and father) and start trying to yell at me for bringing a check. I told them that my check was good, and I even offered to call the bank to verify funds. At this point, I should have realized that he knew his work was no good and figured that I would stop payment on the check. I finally told him to take the check or he could keep the car. He then asked me to remain there while his wife went and cashed the check before I could leave with my car. I then decided I would drive off and leave the thing and that's when he finally decided to take the check and let me take the car. Now, here's the bad part. I drive off in the car and it appears to do ok, until the next day when . . . you guessed it . . . the transmission goes out again and I have to have the car towed at a fee of $250. Then, I call the Holbrook's to let them know the problem. His wife said she would speak to Billy and have him call me back. Instead, the wife calls back and informs me that there is nothing that they can do!!! So, I'm out over $1, 400 bucks because of Billy Holbrook and Holbrook Auto Specialists. I have had my regular mechanic verify that the problem with my automobile was the transmission and that Mr. Holbrook should repair the problem. Billy Holbrook and Holbrook Auto Specialists will NOT stand behind their work. You would think that if he was a professional, he would at least look at the automobile and try to repair the problem. Please choose somebody else to work on your car. These people are unprofessional and will con you into paying more money than originally agreed. It is a shame to have Billy Holbrook and his unscrupulous business in the Ranburne and Heflin area.
