Purchase a $5,000 tax preparer bond from an insurance/surety agent. Obtain a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Register and submit the $33 registration fee online. Yes, absolutely we wanted to check our tax returns. I'm skeptical that anyone can do a complete stranger's taxes accurately in a one hour consult, and I need to be comfortable with the work before I trust someone with something as important as this. As it turns out, Mr Edwards did not fill out Form 8949 for Schedule D capital gains and loss transactions resulting in about ~$900 in additional tax owed. Maybe an honest mistake, but I'm glad we checked. Rest assured that I did not submit my taxes with your name on them. I don't know why you would even suggest that. Your integrity is called into question when you charge more than the initial estimate. Sure we asked a few questions, but we were looking to understand to make sure our taxes were done right and to assure ourselves we were in good hands. I still don't understand why this is a problem. I would have gladly paid your estimated fee for the hour of your time if you had just answered questions. Clearly there was a misunderstanding regarding the "free consultation" (which is still advertised on your website by the way). I wouldn't have felt the need to go on yelp to review your business if you hadn't jacked up the price by $50 on the spot. I'm sure your business will do fine without me, but I hope you spend more time and care on other client's taxes than you did on mine. There are other companies out there that will spend more than an hour with you to make sure you get every penny out of your returns.

If you are a beginner at taxes I would probably say you are better off with one of the mor popular tax preparation sights as they explain more, but are more expensive. I opted for the $6.99 deluxe version of of this one. It gives you free help if needed. Over all, I like this one for doing my family's less complicated taxes. But not my own. The only problem they need to work on is the payment section. You do need to pay for the State return. The payment section wouldn't let me pay with my card because the address was pre-populated with my sons address. We live at same address. I changed it to my name, and it still wouldn't work. After three tries, I deleted the address too, then re-entered the exact same address, and it finally worked. But that resulted in three charges from my bank account. After contacting them about the three charger, I read in FAQ that they hold the money as pending for each try and that the extra charges would eventually drop off - in 3 to 5 days. So, due to the frustration and extra hour spent trying to finalize return, I'm giving only 3 stars.

Other add-ons included Audit Defense for $19.99, a printed copy for $8.96, and a bound copy for $17.96. By the end, the costs added up quickly, making the "free" claim feel misleading. I also found the platform difficult to use for 1099 income. I spent several hours on the phone and in online chats with customer support trying to correctly enter my 1099 information. Unfortunately, no one was able to provide a solution that worked for my situation. After investing approximately 4-6 hours trying to make the service work, I ultimately had to abandon it and visit H&R Block to complete my taxes. The time spent and lack of effective support made this a very frustrating experience.

When I tried to get them to at-least finish what I paid for the year they became contentious and tried to charge me for what was already paid. I don't know what the hell happened to them but I would stay far away from these people. Very untrustworthy and shady company.
