She got a call one evening and the caller spoofed the number to look like Citibank's official number. They claimed they were following up on several Zelle charges that were authorized from my wife's account and wanted to confirm some things. They already knew the login name that she used for her Citibank account and some other personal details. I don't think it came from a security breech on her PC or they would have already had the password and other information they wanted so I'm not sure where they got the info. Anyway we shut it down quickly and called Citi ourselves. My wife didn't feel comfortable after that so she closed her account. It took forever for the girl at the counter to help her get her account and even though we had already gone over everything about the reason for the closure the manager came over and wanted to hear it all again. When they finally cut her the check for her account she told them she wanted it closed out, the girl said it was. The account was closed, nothing in, nothing out it was gone. Fast forward 3 weeks, she had given her work the info for her new bank but they didn't process it and sent her pay check direct deposit to Citi. Low and behold her account wasn't closed and the money went into the Citi account. They wouldn't talk to her on the phone because she had emptied her account so she had to drive all the way down there again and explain everything and get them to cut her a check again for her paycheck that went into the bank. The account shouldn't have been open in the first place, it was almost a month after we had cancelled it. Something strange is going on with Citi, if you bank there I'd keep a close eye on your account.
