For those of you that had cleaning services to compare Check Maid to, I didn't - this was my first time hiring someone to clean my 1 BR, 1 B apartment. The confirmation email states that they have an hour window to arrive, but I'll note anyway that Check Maid showed up at 2:20 PM for my 1:30 PM appointment. All the photos on Yelp and the website show the teams wearing green "Check Maid" t-shirts. My two cleaners were not wearing the "uniform," but the cleaning supplies and vacuum they were lugging made me feel comfortable to leave these two in my apartment alone for an hour and a half. I came back an hour and a half later, and the cleaning crew was still at it even though the paid time had elapsed. I was very pleased with how my apartment looked. My appliances were shining, the floor was spotless, my blinds were dusty no more and they cleaned under and around every piece of furniture. The area of my place I was most pleased with was the bathroom. They really cleaned every nook and cranny. It looked so great I didn't want to step in my shower for fear of getting it dirty! I will for sure be signing up for a monthly cleaning from Check Maid. Thank you!! read more

Update, 2018 -- Reported several sentimental items of value missing back in May; nothing was done (I waited several months before posting this review). Beyond missing items, CheckMaid's cleanings are no longer as thorough as they were back in 2013-2015, but with a "$99 lifetime cleanings" deal, you truly get what you pay for. I've moved on. No longer recommended. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.. Their name is the intention: to cash the check and leave. We paid for a 1 PM to 6 PM cleaning. Gave the cleaners the key at 1:00 PM, came back at 2:00 PM and they had already left. See the attached photos as our main priority was to take care of the cat hair and dust through out the home on the hardwood which we clarified with them before we had left. THE PHOTOS SAY ENOUGH. We just bought this home and it was empty, therefore a relatively easy task. We had their cell numbers and called/texted afterwards but no response. We also gave them an up front 70 dollar tip. Shame on us I guess. Do yourself a favor and do not use this cleaning service!!! We will be contacting every authority until we receive our $332 refund back! read more

I hate to write this review, I really do - I have had several good experiences with checkmaid over the past year but what took place today has changed my opinion about the business as a whole. I scheduled a cleaning online this Monday for a cleaning today (Saturday) at 1pm. I received a call at 8:30am from my cleaner Karida (I am probably butchering the spelling here, my apologies). She told me that her morning client cancelled and asked if I she could come to clean at 9. I am typically super flexible with my schedule but unfortunately today I was unable to accommodate the change. We ended the phone call on a pleasant note and she said she would see me at 1pm. Fast forward to 1:30 - no Karida, no call. I called her twice, no answer. I tried to get in touch with someone at checkmaid and no one picked up. At 1:45 I placed another call to Karida and finally got a hold of her. She seemed surprised I was calling, and when I asked when I could be expecting her was told with attitude that "I offered to come by earlier and you said no, I'll get there when I'm done here." She spoke to me in a nasty and derogatory tone for the entire call, and when I mentioned to her that I was not pleased with her service she got even nastier, and told me "you go ahead and call them [checkmaid corporate] and we'll see what they have to say." The entire call was riddled with unnecessary attitude. Needless to say I told her not to bother coming by. I understand that things happen and it is understandable that sometimes a cleaner will be late for an appointment, but the lack of a communication and the attitude when I finally did get in contact was completely unacceptable. I also have been trying to get in contact with someone at checkmaid to explain the situation/ensure I am not charged for a service not done and have been put on hold for 40+ minutes at this point. My advice to checkmaid - make sure your cleaners get some basic customer service training. I am paying a fee for a service, and shouldn't get attitude when I (nicely!) ask why that service is nearly an hour late. read more

I got scammed by Jerome the cleaner. I ordered the "move in" 3 hour cleaning service. Jerome showed up with only a backpack. No mop or mop bucket. He must have left right after the door was opened for him because the apartment was just as filthy as before he came. I called the service and they said Jerome "clocked in." After I sent pictures to the service, they didn't charge me and offered a free cleaning in the future. My daughter and her husband had to move their stuff in to a filthy apartment as the family cleaned. The intention was to have a spotless apartment for move in day. read more

There are certain things about Check Maid that are great...and some things that are not so great. I've had them come twice now for a monthly cleaning. The first time, it was a not so great experience. It started out with an issue booking and paying for the service. I booked and put it through on my AMEX, but they flagged it as fraud. And it took me over 30 mins on the phone to figure out that it was the cleaning service charge. When booking, they don't tell you that you get charged for a Philadelphia tax even when you don't live in Philadelphia! So, the charge they billed, didn't match my screen, AND it's billed as a company named Balance out of California. It didn't match up and was very confusing. Then, I never got scheduled, so had to make extra calls to verify it didn't go through and to make sure they came when they were supposed to. The first time out, Deano and is crew came to my 3 bedroom/ 2bath house. They did an okay job, but I noticed several issues after they left, that really bugged me. I could've done what they did and saved myself the money. Some people may have thought they were small, but after paying someone over $175 to clean your house, you wouldn't want those things happening! I called the company to let them know that I was annoyed, and they apologized and took a percentage off for my troubles. I'm glad they acknowledged the issue. The second time they came out- a different crew came, and I LOVED them. Kim and Cathy were here and were a million times better then the first crew. They worked so hard, even flipping my couch over and vacuuming under the cushions. They cleaned my fans, noticing one that the first crew obviously missed, when the dust flew down in huge balls! They were absolutely great workers and friendly as well. I'm really appreciative of their hard work, especially taking up for the first crew who was not stellar. I'm also not a fan of their billing system. They charge you at the time of booking, and then immediately after your cleaning, you're already billed for the next service. If you're like me, and can only afford monthly, that very large charge on the first bill is shocking! I understand that they were having problems with people not canceling in time and or not paying, but I'm not a fan of somewhere you have to pay a month ahead for services that you've not yet received. All in all, I'm on the phone right now attempting to cancel my next appointment and I've been on hold for 13 mins and 49 seconds....and counting. Customer service could be much better! read more

Unfortunately, their phone customer service is ** T E R R I B L E ** Sadly I had to call them today because I had a billing question. I don't know why the rep was so defensive about a customer calling with a question, because she told me: "If you don't like our billing, you shouldn't have booked with us" I won't do the same mistake again. CheckMaid is a good service if you never need to talk with their customer service. The cleaners are great, super friendly and super thorough. read more

Kim's team is the reason for this rating. I had all but given up on this service but then Kim's team was scheduled! Kim called prior to see if I had any special requests and called during for updates. My house sparkled after. I'd highly recommend this team if you can get them! read more

Ok, so I was completely surprised to see that this business has 4 stars. Maybe SHOCKED is a better word. So what I'm about to share could be an isolated incident but here is my experience: Booked a cleaning after traveling for a month just wanted to spruce the place up a bit. They were running a promotion so I thought why not give it a try. I booked the cleaning and then directly afterwards got a confirmation with the wrong time. I had to contact them and they changed it saying they were sorry and something came up with the person cleaning. I rearranged my schedule (have to leave the apartment for cleaning too small) for 2 days later. When the woman who was going to clean saw my dog she looked like she was going to faint. I clearly wrote that I had a (very) friendly dog. I felt bad because her fear was very real and tried to explain he is old and likely won't even move off of his bed, but she was not willing to do the job. She stated that she told the company she does not work in places that have animals. Fair enough. But who scheduled her. I contacted the company and they told me they would again reschedule and they were sorry. They said they'd give me a 15% discount. A third time I had attempted a cleaning and I get a text message saying something "came up" with my cleaner and they could no longer come that day. At this point I'm wondering who is running this place and ask to speak with a manager. The manager, Shelia said that she was very sorry and this doesn't normally happen. I explained my frustration and had to remind her to give the discount she had forgotten. Finally, I scheduled a Sunday morning cleaning. I get ANOTHER text message saying that the cleaner is "running late" and will be another hour "or so." The cleaning I was charged for was a 2 bedroom, though I clearly stated one and for 500 square foot, a ton of bizarre rescheduling, and a BARELY DECENT cleaning it cost me (including the discount) $92. Never again. read more

I'm torn about liking this company and rating them with 2 or 3 stars. On one hand, the cleaners have been really good. On the other hand, the company is really lacking in some fundamental ways. I've only used them twice and I don't feel a strong urge to continue with them. Both times, the cleaners showed up late, as in 45 minutes to almost an hour. The first time was on a Friday afternoon so I get that traffic might be problematic but if you offer a cleaning at 5pm on a Friday, then you need to figure out how to get there on time. The 2nd time the cleaners were 45 minutes late on a Wednesday. Both times I got a call when they were 5 minutes away. When I called customer service to ask where they were I got an answering machine. Furthermore, while I was out of town, I had a cleaner call to clarify my address when in fact I wasn't there and didn't ask for a cleaning. The cleaners themselves have been very thorough though they would probably work faster if the 2nd person actually pulled his or her weight. It makes no sense to me to bring another person if they do 1/4 of the work. The cleaner I had last time, Eve, was fantastic and stayed way longer than scheduled probably because the other cleaner didn't do as much as she did. Thankfully, I didn't have other plans that evening because I would have had a 1/2 cleaned apartment. 4 stars for the cleaners. 2 stars for the service. Since the service was so disorganized and unprofessional, I'm giving them 2 stars and looking elsewhere for my next cleaning. read more

Liz and Joe called me in the morning to confirm the time of the cleaning, and we worked around each other's schedules to make everything start on time. I paid for a 5-bedroom cleaning (it's flat-fee, which is AWESOME), but I neglected to mention the 4-1/2 baths when I booked it. Also, I neglected to mention that we had just bought a FILTHY house. I mean, the previous owner hadn't cleaned anything for years, and Liz and Joe noticed. They didn't tell me how disgusting the house was; instead, they just scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed. They spent HOURS working on the filth of the house, and it shows. They scrubbed the radiators. They dusted the crown moulding. They cleaned years' of grime off of an oven that I thought was brown inside. It turns out, it was black. Our house is out on the Main Line, and Liz and Joe were the folks from Check Maid that were able to come to our place. Be prepared to have a flexible schedule because these two are in high demand (for a reason). Ask for Liz and Joe. They go the extra mile. They don't quit when the time clock dings; they clean until the house is finished. They are proud of their work. People who take pride in their work make a huge difference. Payment is cash. Pay attention to the fixed-rate quote, and be prepared for added time ($70/hour) if your house is as filthy as ours was. As is the case with every contractor, server, or service provider, tips are reflective of your appreciation of their work. Liz and Joe earned their tip from me. read more

First time was great, second time they not only didn't send the same cleaners as promised but sent a new 2 person crew (as opposed to original 3) and they were 20 minutes late. The entire time I showed the women the space, she felt the need to correct me as far as what cleaner was best so I was polite as she is the expert, but no need to be rude. It gets better... Then some offsite person called me 30 minutes into the cleaning to say my house had more bedrooms as he read online. As I have no clue where he's getting this info I politely say, not only does he have incorrect info but the women cleaning never mentioned any issues. And then (wait for best part)... they leave! I even tried to go chat with them to see what the issue was and they just said our boss said to leave and rudely ran out the door. Best part... Our house was just cleaned, is almost spotless except for some dusting so these cleaners are obviously no experts as they stated. That and their company has no problem running a bad business. On to the next one... read more

Company customer service - second to none, simply phenomenal. Cleaners - from my limited experience, sub-par and unprofessional. Friday I called up Check Maid to schedule a cleaning, I was suprised by how fast scheduling went, after talking to a customer representative named Alex, I was kind of afraid it was too good to be true. Yesterday(Monday) they sent the maid out early in the morning, the cleaner's valentina and susan were probably two of the nicest random people I've ever met. Honestly I don't think i've ever met more professional employees. The cleaning was scheduled to be from 10AM to 12PM but they stayed till 1, just to complete a very difficult bathroom that had been used by many people from our son's last birthday party. The best part about this was that Susan and Valentina did not charge us for the extra hour they decided to work. My two sons and I have asthma/ extreme allergies, I was afraid that afterwards the house would smell like disgusting ammonia and other vile solvents and industrial cleaning supplies but somehow there was nothing but a nice citrus-like smell. I called up, spoke with Alex again and explained my surprise at the cleaning and asked him about the cleaning products Valentina and Susan used. All Organic? Haha wow I honestly didnt think that really good jobs could be done without the use of possibly respiratory/sinus damaging industrial solvents used by others maid we've had. Other maids have really precipitated our asthma/allergy attacks with the solvents they use but I am just so happy that this did not happen! All in all because of our medical conditions and our business of our family we use maid cleaning services alot to try to prevent dust and dirt buildup which makes it really hard to breathe. I know for sure that I'm going to call check maid again, in a few weeks probably. Thanks checkmaid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I cannot express how happy I am with the whole experience. We needed some help with our Spring Cleaning this year so we decided to splurge and pay for a cleaning service. I emailed their customer service when I had a question about what type of service I should select, and I received a response within a couple of hours. When I replied to the response with additional questions, I got immediate answers. June called me yesterday to confirm my appointment today and was very friendly. What really impressed me, though, was the incredible job that both women did making our apartment (practically) sparkle. The kitchen has never, ever looked cleaner (I am almost ashamed to admit this) and our living room is spotless. We will definitely use CheckMaids next time we need a cleaning service. read more

Jackie and Ciara, the two wonderful ladies who came by today, were extremely professional and great at what they did. I'm very impressed! First of all, they arrived perfectly on time--which is a HUGE bonus for me (because I like people who are on time). Secondly, they already had everything they needed as far as equipment and cleaning material to turn my apartment into the cleanest it's been in a while. They worked fast, yet effective, and they didn't even slightly distract me at all. Also, both maids had great attitudes and were super friendly. I will definitely ask them to come back! read more

Three gals came out and cleaned my super messy house today, scrubbing, vacuuming and even moving furniture to catch any hiding dust bunnies. They worked hard to leave my home sparkly clean even though that meant staying beyond the amount of time they had allotted. All three were pleasant and polite - and I felt safe and secure leaving them in my home with my kitties. I'd definitely recommend! read more

Cleaning up, since the Check Maid cleaners didn't, I noticed that they spat gum on the floor. Neither my husband nor I chew gum and we haven't had anyone over since the failed cleaning appointment. Disgusting. EDIT: In response to Samantha/Linda's comment below, I'm still looking for an explanation of why the Check Maid staff entered my bedroom and took photographs of it. We paid for a zero bedroom clean and I explicitly told the staff not to clean or to enter the bedroom. The door was firmly closed. I am waiting for an apology for this invasion of my privacy, which caused me severe emotional distress. read more

I couldn't tell you how good their cleaning is - they never showed up. I made an appointment with them for a week ago Monday which was not only confirmed, but they put in a pending payment to my card. They then sent an email on the weekend canceling the appointment, of which I did not recieve for more than 24 hours. Against my better judgement, I made a second appt with them for the 14th, as that was their first available slot. They confirmed this and again, took payment. Guess what happened next? Yep. Canceled just now. This is to sell my house, and my ability to list our property has been hamstrung by this cleaning company (pictures have to wait as well as the listing itself, putting me further and further out of season for the sale). This company has the poorest business practices of any I've come in contact with. At least Comcast eventually shows up. Terrible, terrible. Edit: they just sent me a text message reminding me about an appointment that doesn't exist. Winning!! Edit again: To cap off the experience, they JUST CHARGED me. Without actually, y'know, cleaning my house. And of course, overdrew my account. Is there a way to give negative stars for something? No? They should. THIS SERVICE SUCKS FLAMING DEAD BEAR LOVE ALL DAY. With cheese. read more

I've given Checkmaid a great review before, but that was when they actually came to clean. This review is for reliability and an appointment that was not kept. I scheduled a cleaning for my house on a Wednesday before visitors were to arrive on Friday. Checkmaid texted me to move the appointment to Thursday if possible, and I said that was fine. I also received another text and an email reminding me I had an appointment on Thursday. But when I came home Thursday, I discovered they had never been there, and it was too late for me to do anything about it. When I was finally called back, I was told a computer glitch had canceled my appointment by accident. I had never been alerted to this. I appreciate that I can apparently get 20 percent off if I decide to give Checkmaid another chance in the future, but I really wanted my house cleaned and I was extremely upset that didn't happen. read more

I received a confirmation that the cleaning crew would come on Saturday at 10AM and they did not arrive until 1PM that afternoon. When I tried calling or emailing for a status update during their absence, I did not get a response. It's been several days later I did not yet hear from anyone in regards to the miscommunication. However, when Ramon and Ramona did arrive, they did a very good job cleaning the house. At 8 months pregnant, I had a hard time cleaning bathrooms and the floors myself and they spent a lot of time on those areas. I was very impressed with what they could get done during the time they were here. However, they could have moved more furniture to clean the floors underneath and used a hardwood floor cleaner. The cleaner they used left the hardwood slightly sticky. Overall, I was grateful for the work that they did and happy to have a clean house again. I'd like to have them come clean on a more continuous basis but I'm disappointed I didn't get a response about the delay of the crew or any follow-up about my first visit. read more

I hate to be the one to give such a rating to anyone, but it has to be done. I'm raging. Ever since I walked into my apartment with the hopes of it being it squeaky clean. Guess what i walked into? The same god damn mess that I left for them to clean! The kitchen, untouched. While writing this review, I just got a text back from one of the cleaners, their excuse was "I didn't clean your apartment, it was too messy"... What kind of thing is that too say when you're in the cleaning business?!? I'm appalled by this attitude. Do not get your house cleaned by CheckMaid, they're not willing to get their hands dirty, even if thats what you're paying them for. Disappointed and pissed. read more

I was very happy with our cleaning crew- Kerida, Brandy and Orville, we had to move out of our old place and into our new place all in one day and they really took the stress off! Our new house was really dusty and hadn't seen a deep cleaning in a long time and they arrived on time and worked hard and didn't get flustered when I told them our movers would be arriving soon, they just worked around them! The only thing that wasn't done was the walls which is minor in comparison to the rest of the house being cleaned, I would definitely use them again! read more

I just moved into my house and the ladies came in and did a great job. I could eat off the floors they're so clean! I love that they're fixed rates and I loved the yelp deal I got! I will go back to them for sure!! My only complaint is that there is this one woman (I didn't write down her name) that answers the phones that isn't very professional. I told her that my server was down and I couldn't make a reservation online. You'd think I asked her for her kidney! I did end up calling back and I spoke to a gentleman who did a wonderful job. I just wanted to mention that i used them again and Jackie and Cierra did an amazing job! If I could get them monthly, I would use this service every month! read more

Check maid service is the worst. Last month my appointment was scheduled for 7am-9am, around 8:30pm no one had arrived at my home, I called and was informed of some explanation about the cleaning team being stuck in traffic. I informed the person on the phone I needed to leave by 9am. She insisted I leave my key to my home for strangers to let themselves in my home. Didn't offer any discounts for their lateness. They rescheduled for next day. Service was not great and I was very disappointed. read more

Oh my goodness! This is my second time using Check Maid and the second time was better than the first. The first time was Kim and Jackie and it was great to have Jackie come back and to bring her new partner Ciara because they are dynamic together. They are way more thorough and professional. They brought EVERYTHING to clean and they had a game plan which helped them get things done. Jackie is great with the kitchen (as usual) and Ciara left my bedroom spotless. Mind you, I have 3 dogs and 1 cat. After they cleaned my place, you wouldn't even know that I had pets. Speaking of pets, they are so friendly towards me and my pet. I appreciate their time and hard work. Although they were professional, it was like I had guests in my home. That's how much of a delight they were. Thanks ladies! read more

I scheduled a first time cleaning service last Friday with Check Maid. Unfortunately only half of the items that were listed on the website had been cleaned (i.e. kitchen counter not wiped down, furniture not dusted, carpet not vacuumed). I had also noted in the request that I had a dog but the people who showed up asked my dog walker to leave the place while they cleaned - something I was certainly not comfortable with during a first job with a company I was unfamiliar with. After speaking with Isaac the manager, he apologized and offered another cleaning service that would be done by a dog friendly team. Enter Kim and Jackie. They went above and beyond and have left my place sparkling. Efficient and thorough is what one expects from a high rated cleaning service and today, this is what I got. I am glad I allowed the management to offer a second chance. They were prompt to respond when there were issues last week. As Isaac pointed out in the service business issues can always arise, but it's how a company responds to the issues. I will hire Kim and Jackie and have already recommended them to neighbors. read more

I called CheckMaid on Mon. evening, Sept. 2 (Labor Day Weekend!) and left a voicemail because I was desperately in need of someone to clean my dirty condo which was in the process of being leased out. To my pleasant surprise, someone from CheckMaid called me back THAT SAME EVENING and was able to book me a crew for the following morning. "Kim" personally met me to pick up the keys to the place (NOT in her job description) Monday evening and was cleaning the place by Tues. morning at 7:30 a.m. She personally met me to drop off the keys (again, not part of her job) and informed me the place looks great now. I checked out the job they did and am very happy with the result -- she put in extra work with no complaints. I highly recommend Kim as someone who bends over backwards when needed! When I moved into my apartment it was in need of a serious deep clean and luckily, Kim was able to do just that. Kim and Timmy were super professional, helpful, and clearly good at their job! The apartment was way overdue for a good cleaning and my fiancée found check maid through the good reviews on yelp. The two maids arrived on time for their 8am appointment and did a great and thorough job. The customer service was great too. They moved my fiancées keys while cleaning and he was unable to find them so he called customer service and they got back to him very quickly to let him know where it was. Then another 15 minutes later, one of the cleaning ladies called him back again to make sure that he actually found them. We will definitely be using them again. read more

Kim and Tim were very good, they explain everything that they did and did not do so it was clear. The place was cleaned well.

I had my first cleaning appointment last Saturday. Online scheduling process was easy and the staff was responsive by email to help me figure out what service to book. The crew came & went while I was out of the house with no issue. The place looks great! Most importantly, I had some dirt and stains on my bathtub that were there when I moved in 6 months ago. Everything looks great but that was way more than I expected! read more

They seem to have time management issues. I had to reschedule my first appointment as they were running late and wouldnt make it until an hour after the scheduled time. So I tried again for the following week, and got a phone call around the time of the appointment saying they were outside, great. ...25 minutes later I could actually hear them having a good old time in the hallway for a while but no one ever knocked on the door. I had to come out to ask them if they were there to clean my place. The place was left clean. I'll give them that. However things were moved throughout the apartment and never put back. All of the lights were left on, except for the ones in the bedroom as they blew a fuse. The shower curtain and rod were on the floor. It was just a very unprofessional experience. read more
