We have been using Check Oil for about a year and have had a very good experience. We call them when we need oil and they come promptly. The previous reviews mention a nasty driver and a nasty "girl." I have only dealt with nice folks there. The woman who answers the phone at the office has always been nice and whenever I have dealt with a driver (a few times because I've run dry and had to have it bled) they were always nice and helpful. We had some technicians come out once to clean our furnace and they were also nice and informative. I've had a lot of bad experiences with other fuel oil businesses, but Check Oil has been a good so far (over a year). read more

Had Check Oil here for a no heat call, boiler plugged with soot. Tony was here quickly, and got my oil burner up and running. Fast forward two weeks my boiler was again full of soot. Tony was back within an hour of my call, and sure enough, defective part, it happens. Check Oil was here fast, and stood behind their work even when a part was defective, which was no fault of theirs, but they made it right. Fair prices for oil and propane too, plus good service? If I could give zero stars I would. Overfilled tank in December and my house still stinks of oil. In addition I took the day off for a delivery today that never arrived. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Update: Well recently (a year later) I got a call from the owner (David J Bell) who took issue with my Yelp review and called it "nonsense". The photos are proof that it isn't. The profane laced tirade was disturbing to say the least. My basement still smells of oil. I also have video of PID readings, in my house, exceeding safe levels of volatile organics as a result. In addition he threatened me with bodily injury (which I have recorded). I welcome anyone to call and inquire about propane rates--what you're told one day is NOT what you'll be told when you follow-up again! Ridiculously high PRICE GOUGING rates to which they aggressively blamed the President. Thanks for sharing your political opinion! I called about 8-companies and am now paying not much more than I paid at the start of this heating season. My previous company was sold which is why I was price shopping propane rates the last few weeks. NOT intending to do business with a company like this thanks to the accurate and telling comments made by other reviewers here. I'm a grumpy malcontent with very little patience. I'd be better off living as a castaway or something- alone on an uninhabited island. I'd probably (definitely) still complain about the quality of coconuts and the loud seagulls. So when I tell you Check Oil is the way to go, take heed. They've always been friendly on the phone and uber-responsive. They've delivered same day for us probably 90% of the time, even on weekends. And mind you, I'm the rube who checks the oil tank when it's -10 degrees in the middle of a nor'easter and realizes there's a gallon left. Never any judgment on their part. Their prices are also great. What else can I say? I'm annoyed by a great many things and people. Check Oil has always been an easy experience and I'm beyond thankful for that. read more

I'll preface this by saying I have my phone conversation with the owner and his wife recorded if anyone wants to listen to how you can be talked to like you're garbage. And as you can see, the owner replies to all the bad reviews desperately trying to defend his business. The customer is always wrong. I've had issues since day 1 dealing with Check Oil. The tech they sent out was probably the only nice person I've dealt with. The second time calling, I dealt with the owners daughter Cassandra B. I wanted to request a cleaning as my contract includes one. I had a cleaning a few months ago that was given to me free of charge as the tech said they would make an exception since they installed the boiler for the previous home owner, they would put the cleaning under the previous owners contract. So I signed up with them for a new contract. When inquiring about the cleaning I should receive on my contract, she was extremely rude over the phone. (Note this is my first home using Home heating oil, I was very uneducated about the process) Cassandra spoke over me several times, not allowing me to finish my sentences and saying that they never extend contracts from previous homeowners and that the cleaning that was performed was done under my contract (exact opposite of what my tech told me). I requested to speak to the owner although I was not given an opportunity to. I told Cassandra I was going to go online and tell the public about how they treat people and do not honor contracts. After going back and forth she finally apologized on her end and I remained a customer and did not give the company any bad reviews. Little did I know, being very sneaky, she left notes in the computer on my account that I was a problematic customer. As you will see later. Fast forward to 12/29. We had a very cold few weeks and I checked my oil tank. It was very close to the empty mark. I put in two calls to Check oil to request the quickest possible oil delivery. The website says 24/7 service. A message was left and not returned. (I have proof of the call records and a 50 second message that was left). By the next morning my call still had not been returned. I could not wait on them and risk going empty as the temperatures were around 12 degrees F all week. I contacted another company and they delivered immediately. A few hours later we received some vibrations in the house from the boiler. I now know that if the tank gets close to empty, the sludge build up can clog the nozzle and give an uneven spray. My wife contacted Check oil on 12/31 about the boiler vibration and spoke to the owner, David Bell. My wife had him on speaker phone so I could hear. My wife told him that we had to go with another company to fill up because Check oil had not answered our calls or messages. This is where David became irate, then began talking about the notes that his daughter left in the computer from our conversation months ago and that they see I always have a problem with the company. The owner spoke to me as if I was complete garbage, similar to the way his daughter spoke, except worse. He would not let me get a word in and just kept repeating that my contract is null and void because I received oil from another company, I never called or left a message. He told me he did not care that I had the phone records, he said he checked the answering machines and that I never left one. While going back and forth he later admitted I called but said I only called to check the oil price and decided to go with someone cheaper. This is not true, I would not have to call for pricing as they list pricing on their website. Throughout the conversation which was laced with profanities on his end, I spoke very calmly calling him "sir" and trying to be as polite as possible. I even offered for him to come to my house to check my phone to see that I had called on my iPhone phone record. When I said this, David said, I don't want that because I don't know who I am dealing with, and started to chuckle. He later hung up on me. I called back and spoke to his wife Debbie S. Bell., who went on a screaming rant about how she won't be as nice as her husband. Screamed happy new year and hung up. I actually feel bad that people's lives could be so horrible that they need to treat others this way. David Bell, if you ever decide to issue me a refund on the service contract, you have my info. Update: 1/15/18 Owner David Bell, in a typical fashion of a company with two stars, attempts to defend his company just as I knew he would. As seen below in his response, he takes the low road and goes through my past reviews and decides to attack on one of my past reviews. It makes me wonder how an FDNY battalion chief can act so unprofessional in his private business dealings. But when asked to sit down and discuss things off the phone (because he doesn't let you speak), will not show his face. read more

Not an honest business. Replacing parts without letting me know in advance despite me insisting on doing so. I went through a saga around the end of 2017, early 2018, just similar to comments by ChristoFF below. I'd had oil delivered by Check Oil for years. I never had any questions about their service. I didn't live at the house so whenever I called for oil delivery, they delivered. Around September 2017 my system started having problems - there was no heat in the house. So I called Check Oil to service it for the first time. They serviced the burner, cleaned the pipe, etc. It happened again in November, they serviced again, this time because the tank ran out of oil. There was no heat again on December 31, 2017. Probably everyone in the region would remember the cold spell during this time. They wouldn't come until January 3. Since I didn't stay at the house at the time, I just assumed that it's working. On January 5, I found out there was no heat. I called and they said it was working after they replaced the pump on Jan 3rd (I did not know they had replaced the pump!). I called on Jan 5 but they didn't show up 5-6 days later. They charged me for service calls every time, even though the new pump they had installed didn't fix the problem. This time, they told me the system had not been properly setup. I needed to add another oil line going from the tank to the burner in order to fix the problem. I told them I'd rather postpone it until later because the system had been working fine the last 10 years. At this point I just wanted to get the heat in the house. With the new pump, it's supposed to work. They did a bad job but kept charging me for house calls. A week later, there was no heat in the house again. I repeatedly told them that whatever they do, or whatever they want to replace and add to the system, I wanted to approve it first. They said yes. But a few days later, I found out, they installed a new pipe line without my approval. They charged me above $500 for that alone. Like the post by ChristoFF, I went on the phone several times with 2 different women at the company. The calls were ones that got me so upset. Basically everybody talked over each other and ended up screaming to each other. I had never got that upset on the phone with anyone before. So Check Oil is not reasonable at all when dealing with customers, especially they knew they did it wrong by installing new parts and equipment without getting customer's approval despite being asked repeatedly. Since they were not honest about their services, I started questioning their honesty in delivering oil, especially no one was there to check on the amount that they put in the tank. Unfortunately I can't give any stars - just for courtesy I will give one-for that company!! We were fatefully using them in the last 20 years- twice a year-, but how today I was treated was unacceptable. The lady who answered the phone should take a lesson how to be polite and respectful just in general. I asked a 300 gallon delivery and she said that in her notes on the computer saying they have to deliver a 1000 gallon??? Well I am the one who are paying and I explain to her why I don't want that 1000 gallon. Again we a returning costumers in the last 20 years. Our house is up in a small hill and the oil tank is in the middle so the driver have to walk up a little not much , not difficult things to do. My husband bought this house 40+ years - I live here 20 years-nobody ever complained. Actually everyone who delivers here anything had a very positive response to the property- my husband landscaped a beautiful Japanese style garden with waterfalls, ponds, and a lots of rhododendrons... very tranquil. So thankfully I called up another oil company who actually provided me curtesy and 4 cents less price than Check Oil LLC! Their attitude is a perfect example how NOT TO DO BUSINESS! I have been using Check Oil for almost a year, I believe. My first time I requested a delivery ,. I was out of oil and explained I didn't really know how to tell how long a certain amount of oil would last. The wonderful lady who answered the phone informed me the driver will reset everything for me. Every time I call for a delivery, she asks can she schedule me for the next day or am I low. I was about out again and not sure so she had the oil delivered that day. This is a wonderful company and I would recommend them to everyone in the areas that they serve!! We were recommended by our neighbors to use check oil. So we called for a delivery....... My husband received a nasty phone call stating that they couldn't find our house so my husband explained where our house was located being that sometimes on 1st deliveries, vendors do have a hard time finding our home. Shortly after my husband receives a second nasty phone call from the delivery man screaming at him that he cannot get up our driveway and that he's leaving and that his truck is 100,000 dollar truck. I can't even explain how inappropriate this conversation was, being that our driveway was cleared when I got home no snow and I could see the blacktop.... Then my husband in shock after being spoken to in such a matter calls the main number to put in a complaint with the driver for his disrespectful conversation and the girl who answered the phone giggled when she heard the complaint as if she already knew were going to call. She said she is putting us on a no call list that we cannot receive deliveries in the future. Well I have news for you and the owner of this company so listen up. 1st of all I'm paying for a product and to be yelled and screamed at is beyond inappropriate and I wouldn't recommend this company for oil if they were the last people on earth with oil. I rather pay to convert my house to electric than to be spoken to like a piece of dirt. I really don't know how any of your existing customers put up with your horrible customer service. Honesty, very few in this business are truly honest. Many will attempt to upsell or replace parts without warrant, but not these guys. The philosophy of do unto others rings so true with them. No customer service.....i called Tuesday for an oil delivery and was informed I could get delivery the next day (which was great) I asked them to fill the tank. The following day I get the delivery and when I return from work I notice my tank is filled only 3/4 of the way....i called yesterday to inquire about why this may have happened..i thought maybe an issue with the gage on the tank..the girl on the phone explains that I only ordered 150 gallons not a fill up...i informed her that I asked for it to be filled ..she insisted that I didn't and that if I had asked for such I would have a full tank. She at no time offered for another delivery to fill it up or asked if there was anyway she could help me and her tone was rude telling me that I should have told them to fill it...... it was not even two days since I had spoken to them and I clearly remember the conversation. ...price was great but customer service needs people skills read more
