Been coming to this little town for a few years and have always seen this spot but have never gone in. I wasnt sure they would have good Mexican food being so far from the city. Boy was I wrong. The inside is really clean Andy nicely decorated. The staff are all really sweet and very approachable. We went in because I was hungry. I ordered the lunch special 5.99 for chile relleno and a taco cone with beans too. I couldn't believe it. 5.99. It was worth every penny and than some. Chips and salsa were great too. My sis in law tried the sopapilla she loved it. This is a cute little gem in the country worth going too. We will definitely go back. read more

I will not recommend this place.  It was, simply stated, one of the worst dining experiences my wife and I have had anywhere.  I awarded two stars because it was better than staying hungry, and considered only 1 star.  I don't think COVID had anything to do with tonight's service, meal, and management interaction.   When we arrived, we had a short wait, had a friendly greeting from the manager, and then were led to our table.  The manager took our drink order (two waters, one house margarita) before our waitress arrived, and those drinks arrived fairly soon.  After a few minutes, our waitress returned, was friendly and pleasant, took our food order, and left, but returned soon with our chips & salsa, and a few minutes later, brought our "Checo's Dip" appetizer.  My wife & I recognized the waitress was moving pretty quickly, and was one of several wait staff there on what seemed like a busy night. Unfortunately, that was the end of the good service and the good experience. The house marg was ok, if not great.  The dip was ok -- too thin (almost watery), but had a good amount of ground beef and some diced tomatos and chopped onions, so it had a decent flavor.  The salsa was more "tomato paste" than most salsa, but like the dip, had a decent flavor. However, 30 minutes later, we were still waiting for our food.  Granted, the place was still busy, but when the waitress is three feet away at a nearby table ... multiple times ... how much effort does it take to acknowledge customers who are still waiting on their food?  Neither our waitress or the manager bothered to check on us or our order, even though both waitress and manager were around nearby tables several times.  My wife finally called out to our waitress and asked about our food, for which we'd now been waiting nearly 45 minutes.  Waitress said she'd check and returned a few minutes later to say our order had been delayed, but would be out soon.  She finally brought out our food 10-15 minutes later.  All told, it was nearly an hour after our order was taken before our food came out. By this time, my wife and I were no longer hungry, and the margarita was long gone.  We'd very nearly cancelled our order before my wife asked the waitress about our food, but we both agreed we needed to eat and we didn't know what else might be open at this time on a Monday night in this area.  We stayed.  We should've cancelled our order, paid for our one drink and one appetizer, and left. When our food finally arrived, I asked our waitress what had delayed our order, and her first response was, "I turned it in, it wasn't my fault."  At no point while we were eating did the waitress ever return to ask us about our food's quality or taste, if we needed anything else, or even if we wanted another margarita.  She seemed to stay away from us completely, and in fact, didn't return to our table until my wife waved her over to ask for our ticket. As for our meal: My wife's pork tacos were stringy, greasy, and full of gristle, to the point that out of four tacos, she managed to find enough edible meat to make two tacos she could eat.  My combination plate featured a tostado that had a smear of beans on a sigh tortilla with a big handful of lettuce and a glob of quacamole; a chili rejeno that was tasted okay but was far over-cooked (mushy!); and a taco & enchilada & tamale that were all too salty yet tasted almost the same (bland).  Overall, my items were comparable to what I've had in a homecooked prefab tv dinner.  My items seemed liked they'd all been cooked too long and then waited too long to be served. My wife and I both believe our order was lost in the shuffle somewhere.  We were both very disappointed in the service and the meal, and we planned to talk with the manager when we paid for the meal.  Truthfully, we expected the manager to comp one of our meals, or at least the drink, to balance the slow, poor service and overcooked quality of the food. Unfortunately, that conversation didn't happen.  The manager never asked about our meal, the service, or our dining experience.  It was as if he already knew what we planned to say, and he didn't want to have that conversation.  All the manager said to my wife, when she arrived at the cash register, was the total price that was owed, as shown on the ticket.  My wife is a MUCH more polite person than I am, and she was the one who paid for the meal, but even she said she was surprised that was all the manager said to her.  She chose to not try to start a conversation.  Meal paid for, minimal tip paid, and we left. read more

I ordered the Pollo Checo. The chicken was cut in thin slices and cooked to death. It was very tough. As I was trying to cut the chicken, the knife broke at the handle and blade. The blade flew across and under another table. The Chorizo was burnt, the shrimp was very salty and the cheese sauce was runny. The side plate came with pico and had cilantro every where. The menu does NOT state that pico would be on the plate or I would have asked to omit it. The salsa was so full of cilantro I couldn't eat it. Our queso and jalapeños did not come until the meal. The cheese was cold and watered down. My husband ordered enchiladas and the sauce tasted like canned tomato soup. The rice was bland with no flavor. If you know what good Mexican food taste like, don't go here. We love good Mexican food and try to find an authentic place every where we go, but we were so disappointed with this place. read more

This place is amazing! It is so good, we ate here two out of the three nights we were in town. There are several unique food choices, but you can also get the standard dishes. Jonathan, our waiter, was friendly and provided great service. I would recommend getting some of their original dishes and end it with the fried ice cream. If we are back in the area again, we will definitely stop in again. read more

Went there for a prompt B-day for my husband wed !/10. Food was excellent, the service WAS the WORST! Susan our waitress never once came back to see if we needed anything or to remove plates refill drinks. Never asked how the food was. The man served 5 our of 6 dishes. Never once wished my husband Happy Birthday but at another table they brought the hat and free shot ! No biggie just a point on how uninterested they were of our table. Then have the nerve to charge an AUTOMATIC gratuity for a table over 7. One couple had a drink and left before the meal was even served. and yet there was more then 7 so we got that AUTOMATIC GRATUITY CHARGE of 15%. The girl didn't WAIT on us and yet we were held hostage to regardless if she did her job or not she would get an automatic tip. What's to motivate her to do a good job , I ask? And FYI the ADD ON is between get extra cheese for $$$ and the kiddo's Menu. The cashier even had to look for it. Come on that's slippery as sh!t! poor business at worst.The cashier ,he could care less if she did her job or not...Management poor training as the automatic gratuity, it's should have been stated when the waitress introduced herself when she first came to the table as a matter of point ,..oh wait she didn't do that either. She got her 15% though ironically we always start at 20% for a waitress that just does their job higher if they go beyond she did neither and we we forced to pay! Will not be back. I've been going to this restaurant since they opened in Ironton. Prior to that, the owners ran another restaurant in Ellington and it was so successful, they decided to expand to the Ironton area. I have always had great food at both locations. The service is fast and friendly - especially if Rosa or Pablo are serving. The menu contains the traditional choices, but there are many house specialties that are absolutely worth trying. I see where one reviewer had a bad experience and I suppose that happens, but I've never had any issues after dozens of visits. read more

Tonight's dining experience was not great. It took over an hour to get our appetizers. And be prepared to pay premium prices for drinks if you do not order the standard margarita! $14 for a double bourbon over ice. And the bourbon ordered was not a premium bourbon. What they consider a double is in all honesty a single. When questioned about how they measured a double the "bartender" did not know how many ounces was used. He simply said he used the "double" mark. The two "doubles" cost the equivalent of two full bottles of American Honey. But the kicker of the evening was the to go order. The to go order also took over an hour to to receive. One of the items was the cheese dip. When the order was finally ready, there were no chips for the cheese dip. Thinking it was an honest error I asked the waitress where the chips were for the dip. She said that they were running low on chips so she did not put any in the bag. Seriously?! No chips for cheese dip?? It is understood that all restaurants have bad nights but the final straw was the rudeness by the cashier when it was mentioned about the poor service and disappointment with the order. At no time was a request for anything to be comped but I felt like they should be aware of the issues. The cashier insincerely stated he was sorry to hear that and then preceded to walk off before completing the transaction and collecting the charge receipt. It will be a long while before returning to this local establishment. Do better! read more
