This supermarket has everything. Deli, bakery, great variety of wine and beers, even artesanal beer. A section for pizza and pasta to order. You can eat there or take it to go. The Service is fast at cash registers; manny open so when you are ready to pay, it is smooth. You have to bring your own bag. They also sell plastic bags for 2 pesos. The place is clean and organized. There is also a section that has souvenirs. Prices are overall convenient but not cheap. read more

Parking was a pain with all of the taxi's zipping around, but the store itself was clean, the employees helpful, and the prices were good with the exception of one item in the pharmacy. I specifically went for albuterol rescue inhalers that I typically pay about $3/$4 US (around 60-80 pesos) and they were over 600 pesos when she scanned it! It's only been 2 years since I bought some last but that's either crazy inflation or something wasn't right, especially since I bought some today in the AIRPORT for 280 pesos. read more

A pleasant smaller size of what I've experienced in another city. I was happy to be in and out of the store and a small amount of time. I wish there was just a little bit more variety but again, besides the store matches what they are holding in there and I'm grateful. The staff are kind and helpful. This is the best Mexican market I've ever been to. The variety of products is outstanding and the produce and fruit is outstanding. Liquor options are available and everything you need is there from wine, beer, hard liquor and mixers. Meat and cheese selection is great I wanted to make a charcuterie and found everything I needed. Clean store and nicely done. The only thing I could not find was oat milk and wonton wrappers but no biggie. We are staying for a week and got groceries, lots of alcohol and snacks for around $350. Lunch alone for 4 people yesterday during happy hour was $100. Shopping is a great deal and the way to go if you have a place yo cook. In our case, we have an amazing kitchen in our rental. Locals shop there too. Everything you might need while doing your hipster, trekking thing in Tulum. Totally safe parking lot A quick taxi ride away from most any place in Tulum The bads - The check out girls - surly, don't give a cra&. No such thing as 'express' checkout in this place. We were on the way back from playa and needed to buy some food souvenirs. Love these massive local one-stop-shop places. You can get From a chocolate all the way up to a Tv. Think of it as a Costco without membership needs. There's also a food area and smaller shops right next to the cashiers. They do take dollars! read more

UPDATE (6/28/15): Two months after my Mexico trip, I come to find the ATM in this store was infiltrated with ATM theft software (by crooks, not the store/bank) - thieves stole my account number and pin number WITHOUT stealing my card. Two days ago, $900 was taken from my checking account, which the bank covered. But be WARNED: try not to use your ATM card outside of a hotel or resort ATM - I think once you get into general public settings, the risk goes up. THE STORE ITSELF (APRIL 2015): We were looking for a Walmart to load up on vacation groceries, but found this first. It essentially Walmart by a diff name. They sell everything here, including cool beach blue flip flops with the obligatory race car reference (?) on the sole. Mexico is the greatest. read more

Staying in Playacar and this is closest grocery store, about a 12 minute walk. It's basically a Walmart. Has everything from food, liquor, clothing and electronics to souvenirs. I found the associates to be very friendly, offering assistance several times. Their bakery section is heavenly, so many amazing and fresh baked pastries, cookies and breads to choose from. If buying from the bakery, you must have them price tag your items there in order for the front register cashiers to scan them. Very good prices and my cashier was pleasant and friendly, despite our language barrier. read more

As far as Supermercados go in this stretch of highway, this is a fantastic stop. Heading from the well-stocked areas of Cancun down to the barely-stocked shelves in Tulum, this is a perfect halfway point to stock up on grub and booze, and maybe make a potty break. Chedraui is a little larger than your standard mix department store and supermercado, and it sits in a little center with a bunch of other shops like clothing stores, etc. What I like about this store is its mix of decent quality products (including a smattering of organic offerings) as well as solid fresh-made deli and panaderia supplies. So you can score decent cheeses, fresh tortillas (well, I guess that's standard at any market), fresh salsas, beans, meats, etc. It's not all pre-packaged and brand name. Produce selection is pretty good here too. I was able to find some quality fruits and veg in good shape, as well as a few interesting items. Anyone who has spent much time in Mexican supermarkets trying to find decent produce knows what a challenge it can be. While I'd prefer to get farmer's market, this place'll do. Pretty good liquor selection too, although it looks like it can be hit-or-miss. Overall it's big, bright and fancy. Plenty clean. Lots of parking. Super easy on/off highway access. Decent baño. Totally worth it. Also, what does the name even mean? read more

Found this neat superstore when heading to Puerta Adventuras from Cancun. It's Walmarts competitor but they seem slightly cheaper. I enjoyed grocery shopping here to stock up my hotel. Buying souvenirs to bring back to USA was so much more reasonable. By the way, i bought some sand toys at Tulum Ruin for 200 peso. At chedraui, found the same toy for 50 peso. Darn! read more
