We loved the Leadenhall Market. Great place to hangout, grab some food, or a drink. Cheese is a perfect place for a beer, wine, and a snack.

Well, I'm really "digging" the interior of this store - you actually feel like you're being transported back several hundred years; which actually is quite true, as this store has been around for a very very long time! Anyway, what I kind of disliked, was that the person who got my order ready, was quite a snob - very uptight British and made me feel as if I wasn't a worth customer. (Maybe he didn't approve of me coming into such a posh store with a hooded sweater?) Also, their website is really awful: I was trying to find out, where the store would be, but the website is impossible to maneuver through. It's all online selling, but there's no apparent link that will point you to where the actual store is! Well, thanks to Yelp I actually found it! So, three stars for this experience, but I might just come back another day again, as their selection of wines is incredible!

To compliment the tasting I arranged to have lunch at their restaurant Chalk before driving back to the city. Located in beautifully remodeled stone building at the sparkling wine house of Wiston, Chalk has a star chef creating beautiful dishes from their garden and neighboring farms, all pairing beautifully with their wines. The bar program and extensive wine list offer a lovely opportunity to venture beyond their wines, although after driving all that way it seems a shame to not exclusively drink their offerings. Highlights include the Hen of the Woods gnocchi, Chicken liver parfait with Wiston Rose and Elderflower Jelly, and the white peach and almond tart with lemon verbena ice cream. 50B

I attended my tasting on a Wednesday afternoon. This particular tasting was a BYOB (bring your own baby)! It was an awesome opportunity for moms to get together with their babies, de stress from motherhood over a couple glasses of wine. I however, did not have a baby (as I was solo traveling) and was welcomed widely by the staff and all the moms. I even got to hold a few babies lol. This tasting was extremely affordable we were offered 4 wines throughout the 3 hours as well as small bites for £25 . The staff were extremely extremely knowledgeable and true experts at their craft. They talked extensively about the wines, their origin, ways to pair, fermentation and more! Their passion really allowed for a good experience. As a solo traveler in London looking for a fun midday midweek activity I was left extremely impressed and happy! Highly recommend.

I've only been in there once but the wine they recommended for our pasta was rich and the perfect compliment. The staff (I've only met one but she talks very personally and highly of the owner too) really know their wine and are proper extroverts. They'll recite a novel for you on their wine selection so you can find exactly what you're looking for. They really pride themselves on vintage wines. They have done a great job of networking with and seeking out very unique, kind of "indie" wines. One of the coolest things about this shop, and something I have yet to experience, are their wine tasting events. Occasionally they will invite a wine maker to promote his wine and offer free tasting. For a list of their events, visit: http://www.thewinetastingshop.co.uk/calendar I can't wait to attend one and after I do I'll be sure to give an update to this review.

I once found Džiugas, a cheese from Lithuania, here, though have not seen it recently, and was really pleased because, well, it's very tasty, and it saved me from having to fly to Vilnius just to get a taste of it once more. In addition to cheeses, this shop also stocks chutneys, cake mixes, biscuits, jams and sandwiches. The sandwiches do seem to be priced quite reasonably, and when I popped in one evening, were going for buy two for the price of one. I haven't tried them myself as I don't quite like their range of breads (white sandwich bread and baps). Staff are nice and friendly and happy to look for and suggest cheeses in accordance to your needs. International Cheese also offer cheese hampers, boxes and wedding cakes, so it's a great place to pop into for gifts as well.

If I had to sum up this place I'd say it was a British Deli, if such a thing exists, and allowing for the occasional Swiss and French cheese They also do an excellent range of sandwiches. With the exception of a token turkey sandwich they all include cheese. And of course it's not just cheese, but specified types of cheese, whether cheddar, brie or soft, in ploughman's, with chutney, with ham etc. All fresh cut and simply wrapped in clingfilm. Prices start under £3, so very competitive too.
