Easily one of the worst dining experiences I had in Lisbon. I had to leave and repeat dinner elsewhere. While I liked the outdoor patio vibes and the host was prompt in seating me, the service that followed was subpar (somewhere between non-existent and completely forgetting the only condiment I asked for) and this experience was only second to the awful steak and spinach dinner I couldn't finish. The interior of the steak was red and rubbery and I was laughably given a butter knife that was unsuccessful in cutting it. I actually figured it was best that I didn't eat it. And the spinach was served puréed as if for a baby, which still baffles me. I left 3 stars for the French Fries, which were good and for the kind gentleman working The Bar who helped me track down the check so I could get out of there. read more

A pharmacy themed upscale restaurant. We were checking out the bars in the area and were told to check this place out. this was not a good place for a group of girls who were buzzed and wanted to drink more, even though its a bar. The menu is small and it's on the pricier side, whether it was for the cocktails or food. A lot of families and couples were dining so I personally felt uncomfortable that we were there in leggings and casual tops when everyone else was dressed better (BTW, I didn't see one person in Lisbon wearing sweats or basic leggings - they're always well dressed at all times) What we got: We ordered vodka shots with pineapple juice. This is when we found out that shots aren't really a thing in Lisbon, so if you order shots be prepared for straight liquor - straight vodka in our case. They don't really specialize in mixed shots so you're better off ordering the straight ones with a side of whatever you'd like to mix your shots with and DIY (it costs 3 euros per shot (straight) and then like 3euros for the juice. *at more casual bars, I'd suggest asking if they can make 1-2 mixed drinks and then drink it as shots- that way its better, gives the bartender some leeway with being creative and you're not immediately gagging from straight vodka :D They gave us our drinks in test tubes which was cute because it fit the whole theme. While the people watching and the view require to be on the terrace, the main room in the back is quieter and worth the trip. The decorum is fun, pretty unique and cosy. We enjoyed a pica pica dinner, sharing 6 plates for 4 people. I recommend the duck croquetas. We picked a bottle of red Douro which was a bargain at 29 Euros. Go for it, is is a dry and elegant red. On a recommendation from our Airbnb host, Pharmacia was the perfect place for our first dinner in Lisbon. DH and I were able to get outdoor seating to enjoy the beautiful weather on a Sunday in early October. We had a great vantage point to people watch as visitors came and went to meet friends for drinks on the lawn. Wait staff was attentive but also gave you plenty of time to enjoy your meal undisturbed. For starters, we had duck croquettes and a basket of bread with olive oil, butter, and paté. My pineapple, mint and lime drink paired well against these appetizers. Wish you could order a pitcher of that cool drink. For entrees, the DH had the sliders with fries and I had the goat cheese on a bed of mixed greens, radicchio and frisée with candied walnuts. On top of the goat cheese was a scoop of mango slushee! You'd think what an odd combination but it totally works. It was SO good, and the mango didn't melt! I took my time savoring that salad and the sweetness of the mango was the perfect compliment to the goat cheese and greens. I think about that salad often now that I'm back in the U.S. SO good! Dessert was crème brûlée and some chocolatey goodness that I can't remember. Every morsel of food was delicious, and all served in a wonderful unique environment. I came here for dinner one night when I was exploring Lisbon, because it was hard to get a reservation anywhere else and this happened to be close to another restaurant that was recommended to us. The restaurant is located in the a tucked away area Lisbon, which is a little bit far from the central part of the city where I was staying. The restaurant is very cute in concept in that it takes on a very apothecary and pharmacy like feel. They give you the cocktail menu in the form of a pill box that you have to open up and take out the different drink selection menu. The food here was decent and the prices were reasonable. Overall a decent experience. The staff was also friendly. Order two things to share, and I felt like it was enough food. read more

I found this restaurant while reading an article online before making my trip to Lisbon with my mrs. It immediately caught my attention for its interesting ambience and theme. Located in a museum of pharmacy in bairro alto this hip place has some great tapas. The mrs and I got some croquettes and a salmon on sweet potato which were absolutely delicious. We were on the verge of getting another plate but decided against it. The bread we received was complimentary and the spreads were delicious. We were also interested in some of the drinks from their drink menu which all had a pharmaceutical inspiration, but alas my stomach was not up for it. If you're in Lisbon and wanna try creative Portuguese food and like a good atmosphere, come check out pharmacia. It is a unique experience which can give it a slightly pretentious vibe. My husband and I had dinner here tonight on a whim as we were walking by on our way back to our AirBnB apt nearby. Ignore the negative reviews. From the hostess to our waiter to the Chef who came to ask us how the food was and took time to talk to us, the service was spot on. Very nice location in an old mansion with a pharmaceutical sense of humor. We shared the clam "risotto", the shrimp cooked with garlic and some nice wine. The shrimp could have been cooked a bit less, but it was really tasty, especially with bread soaking up the sauce. The 'risotto' was incredible. I think my husband ordered a black pork dish that was kinda like pulled pork and he enjoyed that. We would go back the next time we are in Lisbon. read more

Omgggggg SUCH bad service. Had a reservation and the hostess (with the mostess attitude) made us wait outside in the cold. Once she allowed us to enter the restaurant we noticed that only two other tables were seated (lmk why we had to wait). Then we ordered our drinks off of torn and dirty menus. The drinks (antihistamine and antibacterial) were pretty nasty tasting even though they looked cute. I ordered the duck croquetas and clams off of more torn and dirty menus. The duck was good but the clams and rice tasted like I was swimming through the ocean with my mouth open. My friend who is vegan chose this place because she saw their vegetarian menu online which I guess doesn't actually exist. When ordering she asked the waitress which items they were able to make vegan (3 things). 2 of which (the tomorrow soup and the asparagus) obviously had dairy in them when we got them even though she was (falsely) confident they didn't. When we asked for a check they just gave us an empty pill bottle which would be okay if that meant they were comping the meal but in reality they just forgot to put the bill in the bottle (isn't that like the point of this whole thing?) Overall the bread was the best part of this meal. Don't be fooled by their insta feed. read more

This is such a hidden gem - on the grounds of a Pharmacy Museum (worth seeing), and everything on the menu has a slightly pharmaceutical influence. It had a beautiful view, excellent service, and one of the best salads I had during my two weeks in Spain and Portugal. This was one of our favorite restaurants in Lisbon - highly recommend it for all the foodies out there. You dine outside in the garden outside of the pharmacy museum. The garden is absolutely beautiful and unique. The service was excellent and they all spoke really good english too incase you are picky with your food and need to ask questions. The menu is tapas insipired and they reccomend 3-4 dishes for two people. We ended up just sharing 3 tapas and dessert and felt quite full after. I highly reccomend getting the "baculhai a ze do pipo" which is the codfish fried in olive oil, mashed potatoes, onion, mayo and olives. It was absolutely delicious and yummy!! For desserts go with the fruit crumble with ice cream - it was a perfect way to end a delicious meal. your check at the end comes in a little pill container - super cute! read more

During the summer I had the chance to go to Lisbon for a few days and I was lucky enough to try this place. If memory serves me right it is attached to some sort of medical library. (Could be wrong on the specifics , but definitely a educational building) Don't let this put you off though, in no way does it feel like an add on. It is a funky and hip bar/restaurant that simply uses the theme of the place next door to give it, it's name. It has large gates that open out into big gardens at the front of it with a mish mash of different chairs and tables. Inside the restaurant it is all done up with what I would guess is 50s or 60s pharmacy tools and furniture. To start we sat outside one afternoon and drank some red wine in the sunshine. It was very peaceful and the staff were really friendly. After watching several meals going by all being serviced with various pharmacy quirks. Such as sauce in a big plastic syringe. We decided we needed to join in. You can see from my pics we had some small plates and the highlights were the salmon tapas and the steak with chips that were almost crisps. Both dishes were sensational! We were there in the afternoon, bit when I go back we will go along in the evening as I thin think those large gardens will be bliss to sit in alongside all the locals. read more

I don't write a lot of negative reviews for really anything...but after a recent visit to Pharmacia I simply could not pass up this review opportunity. I felt so insulted by how my wife and I were treated by the staff at Pharmacia. We arrived in the evening with a desire to get drinks and petiscos. We approached the gate and asked a waiter if we could sit at an empty table near the entrance. He told us no, we would have to wait to be seated. So we stood near said table for five minutes before the (rather friendly and not the subject of this review) hostess sat us at this very same table. The very same waiter then came back to take our drink and food orders. Upon taking our order he took both the drink and food menus with him, which we found odd...since we would likely have ordered multiple drinks from the very creative menu if given the chance. Another worker brought us our drinks and food... the drinks were great, the food ...OK. What happened next led to this review... no one ever came back to our table ever again... not to see if we needed more drinks or food even when we waved frantically at the waiter... not even to bring us our check when we finally gave up and tried to leave. We never saw our first waiter again up close only from a distance... I twice asked a different waiter who came to the table next to ours for our check. Both times he confirmed the request and said that he would be right back... then he never bothered to bring the check. After a 40 minute wait to pay... we waved over a couple of ladies who were waiting for a table and volunteered our table to them. We then continued waiting for our check on the steps next to the entrance, we contemplated just leaving, but do not think leaving without paying is an option. After another 10 minutes passed the new waiter discovered that he had new customers at our table and only then came to see where we went. I relayed the story to him... and he laughed...he actually laughed when I told him of our ignored requests for our bill, he laughed when I told him about how we never got a chance to order a second drink or more food, he laughed when I told him about how we felt like our business was unwanted the entire time we spent at what seemed initially to be a lovely bar/restaurant. He laughed at our disgust with the horrible service at his workplace. We will not be coming back and will do whatever we can to keep anyone we know visiting Lisbon from spending money at Pharmacia. read more

My wife and I, along with about 20 others sitting in our section of the outdoor patio, had a terrible dining experience here today. We came here because my guidebook raved about the quirkiness of this place with its pharmacy themed decor and menu. If you just want to come for a drink on the lawn overlooking the riverfront viewpoint, then maybe its worth a visit. Should you want to eat anything, please go somewhere else. A major reason for this debacle was the waiter. He might be new or just not cut out for this line of work, but that still does not excuse him. It took us 15 minutes from being seated to get a menu, and that was only when his supervisor stepped in and gave it to us. There was a poor trio sitting across from us who got a menu early on but could not flag him down for over 30 minutes to get their order taken. I'm surprised they didn't just get up and walk away. We had walked a lot that hot summer day, so we just wanted to start with a bottle of water to go with our meal. After waiting forever for just the water, our waiter came by with the bottle but no glasses. He said he would go retrieve them. After about 5 minutes, he walked straight past our table with 2 glasses in hand, stood at another table for a moment and then finally remembered they were for us. Once we finally got our first plate of tapas, we took our first bite, hopeful, because good food can excuse some poor service. But the food was just as terrible. We ordered a chorizo sausage plate, but what we got was 3 rock hard pieces of red tough rubber and 3 pieces of dark black mystery meat that I assume were blood sausages. They were presented awkwardly on top of individual slices of pineapple and orange. All it took was one bite before our appetites receded into the depths of our stomachs, and we knew it was time to call it quits. Seeing as other diners all around us were unhappy, ignored, brought incorrect orders, and generally frustrated, we saw that there was no hope for us there. I got up to talk to the supervisor and ask if we could just pay for out water and leave. They gave us a little trouble but finally acquiesced. Thank goodness we got out of there only out of 2 euros and before we could find out what our other dish tasted like. I feel sorry for all the other people who stayed and sat through that excruciating experience. This place may have been great at one time as others have previously mentioned, but it doesn't take long for a place to go downhill as this place certainly has. Avoid at all costs. read more

3 stars because the view above Miradouro Santa Catarina, from the hip and cool crowd sitting at the tables outside. A bit pricey. You can sit and look below as the kids party and the band plays at the Miradouro, besides that, the food is just OK, in such a competitive environment as Lisbon and coming from another great place, just two blocks away and with half the attitude, we were not impressed. A salad was just that, the octopus on some type of avocado sauce was weird, and the salmon puffs or tostadas, or whatever were nothing that I could not have had better in Santa Monica. We loved Lisbon though but as the city becomes more and more of a tourist destination some of the highly rated restaurants are sometimes disappointing. read more

I started with a killer drink, even thought it was lunch time, but hey it was my holiday. I got the LSD: the name was appropriate. A mix of whiskey and Ginjia that knocks you off. Being a cheese fanatic I ordered an assiete of cheeses all local and all tasty. Then baccala croquette and a pork dish which was quite on the heavy side but small enough. Main reason for 3 stars is service - it all felt a little snotty. We were told we couldn't reserve outside, and when we arrived for our reservation we were told we couldn't sit at an empty table with a view, and instead were seated in a back corner. The table sat empty the whole time we were there. We visited with our toddler who enjoyed the lawn, but we got a lot of unpleasant looks from wait staff even though he was always playing closely supervised and quietly. This is a super cute place. The concept and setting are fun. The food is small shareable plates. The scallop pasta and stuffed eggplant were standouts. The other items were good but nothing to write home about. I think on a nice day the outdoor patio would be amazing for a drink. They have craft cocktails and a nice list of Portuguese wines. Absolutely amazing. Our waitress (don't remember name- spoke excellent english and watches hannibal) gave fantastic recommendations. The eggplant rolls and the honeydew melon drinks are a MUST. also the lemon pie in a jar was amazing. We loved everything we tried and would love to come back. The decoration is also adorable.
