We were split up into different teams and were separated into different stations to cook each dish: - butternut squash shooters (vegan) - thyme and pepper flank steak with cranberry mustard - truffle Mac n cheese - lemon phyllo chess tartlets We all had to finish in an hour and thirty minutes, so it really felt like we were on a cooking competition show, haha! On top of that, we also pretty much had unlimited wine, so that made our cooking experience even more interesting. The only other cooking class experience I've had was in France over the summer. I went to a dessert making class and it was awesome, so I had great expectations for Home Chef. Home Chef shares a space with an appliance store, so you have to keep this in mind while you're there. What I loved: 1. The chefs were knowledgeable and pretty nice. Chef David has tons of energy and shared some great tips about knives, cutting, and prepping veggies. 2. The recipes were easy to make and the directions were easy to follow. Improvement: I would have appreciated if the chef would have allowed us to do more things independently. Many of the ladies simply had questions, but the chef would assume responsibility and take over. I had a self-awareness moment because I do this often at home, and it drives my husband crazy! I saw myself in the chef's actions, and I realized it's not cool. It just makes people kind of worthless and ignorant. Several of the ladies in the group found themselves standing around not doing much because the chef took their jobs. Overall, I had a good time, and I'd like to come back with my husband for a couples' cooking class. This is a great experience and I think everyone should try this at least once.

We have learned so much and used the recipes at parties to much acclaim. Plus - they are only $42 per person for residents - what a deal!

I booked a Tuesday evening class during winter break. You get a confirmation email and that's it. I was worried about prep but they prepare everything for you and thought up everything as well. Small parking lot. They had us wash our hands when we arrived and then each kiddo had a color sheet with crayons. Nice touch but defeats the purpose of washing our hands first. The two of us shared a table with another mom with their toddler. Each toddler had their own set up to make 6 cookies. Everything was pre measured and it wasn't too messy. We were able to bake 6 cookies and use whatever toppings - she got to choose between chocolate chips, m&ms, white chocolate chips and these dried fruits. They read a book to the kids and then made milk shakes as a group. Each kid got a small cup and to place chocolate chips/m&Ms in. The cookies were really delicious and my child loved the milk shake. One thing is that you can't stop other kiddos from touching your items/food. Would return.

I wanted to share feedback about the Taste Buds Kitchen class my family attended in Palo Alto. We…read moresigned up for a shared table experience, but we did not realize that "shared" meant all parties at the table would be sharing the same sauce, ingredients, and cooking steps. For example, all six of us were mixing one single sauce together with only three ingredients. This was not communicated clearly in the class description and felt very uncomfortable. The class description also stated that everything would be made from scratch, but that was not the case. We wrapped pre-cut chicken in pre-made phyllo dough, which was very different from what we were expecting based on how the class was advertised. Additionally, the experience felt a bit low-quality. The appetizer was a single small plate of pita bread and oil--probably under $2 total--to be shared among all six people. There was also a lot of waiting around, with the kids taking turns doing very small tasks such as sharing the chopping of just one onion. Overall, the experience felt slow, uncomfortable, and not aligned with what we believed we were paying for. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not recommend this class to others and do not plan to return. Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback. I can't speak for the entire school, but I had a very bad experience trying to enroll in a night…read morewood working class. I had previous experience in woodshop classes I took at Mount Tam high school in Marin, so I wasn't a novice. I paid the fee and enrolled in the class. However, when I met the teacher Ray, he decided not to let me take the class. I think he just didn't like me. Disappointed, I tried to get a refund but the school wouldn't give it to me, so I had to open a dispute with my bank. None of my calls or emails to the school or the teacher were ever returned regarding the class or the possibility of taking future classes. It felt like the class was a private club not open to outsiders. Its this kind of elite snobbery that gives rich cities like Palo Alto a bad name.

Classes are very reasonable and can range from $35 on up to $200 depending on how often it meets and the types of supplies you pay for. Geared toward the adult, so evening and weekend classes. They have arts and crafts, cooking, financial, computer, language, music, health and fitness, birdwatching, dancing, acting, CPR and first aid, ...you name it.

I interacted with two sets of instructors and assistants over the course and they were all very friendly and knowledgeable. The recipes of the week are e-mailed to the students ahead of time. The summarized instructions are given in the beginning of every class. There are many demonstrations as well. But the best part is the actual hands on cooking! Usually we get all the chopping and slicing done first then move onto mixing and sautéing in groups of 3 to 4. At the end of the cooking, we all sit down around the table and enjoy the meal. This is a social cooking gathering!! Lots and lots of fun :-) I loved all recipes selected for this course with a couple of exceptions (not bad but less interested ones to me). They are not overwhelming and never called "hard-to-get" ingredients, so I actually recreated more than several recipes at home! I highly recommend Homemade Cooking!
