Would never go there again. First once you walk through the door the place smells old. The floor is covered with this old red carpet that is in serious need of replacement. It looks like it hasn't ever been cleaned. There was mashed food in the carpet and stains everywhere. The food was extremely greasy. To the point where the food could not be eaten. Very disappointed recently on a Friday night. Went there for dinner at 8 pm. Everyone was disorganized. We had to wait for a table. I'm took about 20 min for a table. Only one table was occupied. All the other tables needed to be cleaned. It seems everyone else was in the bar and no one was dedicated to cleaning. We then sat. It appeared that one person was training everyone else who had no idea what to do. They must have lost all the regular wait staff unless they were in the bar too. This is no way to run a business. Training should be done during hours the restaurant is not open. Then new waitresses should shadow and help experienced waitresses or waiters until they can be on their own to wait on customers. We have been going there for a couple of years and have not had this disappointment. It will be awhile if we return after we walked out without eating. read more

My husband and I just moved here from Boston. While unpacking we wanted to get some takeout delivered so we remembered driving by this place and thought we would give it a try. Ohh my lord, what a mistake! The pan fried noodles were served in some slimy inedible sauce. The egg foo yong looked and tasted like rice cakes. We ordered over $50 worth of food for our family of four and threw it all away. NOTHING was good at all! I ended up making mac and cheese from a box just to have something to give my kids! My favorite chinese restaurant near me. Service is slow at times which is the reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Food is always delicious, and portions are always huge which makes for great leftovers. The bar can get noisy which can be annoying, but it's a great place to go with family or friends. Crab rangoons are super yummy, hot and sour soup, and mother's chicken. You also get chicken meatloafs on the house with are these fried round things with veggies and meat in the middle, so good with sweet and sour! Couldn't eat any of the chicken wings they were way under cooked, so bad that the blood was runnning...(I know disgusting) I called to complain and all they wanted to do was bring us some more wings... Take out only for me because its loud, not family friendly due to excessive swearing at all times. We had their Pu Pu Platter and a couple authentic dishes my wife requested that they happened to have the ingredients for, Everything was delicious. My family orders from here all the time because the have good consistent Chinese food, so this is a review of the Take-Out food and not the restaurant itself (which is not the classiest but the food is still good). It is the only local place to us with good flavor, texture, and color in it's food that we could find in Derry. Chen's is not what you would call upscale in terms of the restaurant itself as it reminds of of a dive bar, BUT the food it makes always has fresh ingredients with the right flavor profiles for each food. Also I really like the portions. Let me give some examples; when I order the pork dumplings they have a nice sear on one side and good filling on the inside with the right proportion of dough to meat. You can taste the pork, soy, scallions/onions, and other house spices rather than other places which seem to just douse their food in one type of sauce. (UPDATE: The good food is often cooked during the weekdays. When I order food on Fridays for example it is always cooked spot on but on the weekend it is of mixed quality, so I assume they have a different chef. The sesame chicken tastes slightly spicy with that hit of chili (possibly sriracha) with a flavor of soy, sugar, ginger, sesame oil, and a hint of citrus. The chicken is well portioned (not where you get mostly flour or starch) and is lightly tossed in a egg white starch coat to give a little texture before they fry it in the wok. It also has a good sticky sauce; other Chinese restaurants seem to think any sugar soy sauce mix is what will make a good sesame chicken which is certainly not the case. I have cooked Chinese American food a number of times before and I know how to make it well and though it is a tad expensive ($$) I believe it worth it if you don't want to be disappointed with other local fair. read more

Anyway, shortly after finishing it I got the King's diarrhea. Happy about making the trip to Derry after being disappointed with our choices of dine-in Chinese restaurants in Manchester and we're SO glad we did! We were immediately seated in a booth and within minutes our friendly waitress came over for our drink order. We ordered a scorpion bowl for two which arrived very quickly and was expectedly strong. Minutes after we ordered our meals, the waitress came back with a crispy & tasty "meatloaf" appetizer 'gratis' from the kitchen. (We have experienced this several times here before - yum!) We didn't wait long after we finished our appetizer and enjoyed some of our drink when our dinners showed up. Don't get me wrong, the pace was quick, but we never felt hurried. The General Tso was delicious (and I'm picky about my Tso) with perfectly cooked broccoli and the Chow Mein dinner (D12) excellent - with very fresh & crisp veggies. The food here is awesome. Polynesian/Chinese, so the food is a bit sweeter than traditional Chinese/Mandarin. Eaten inside on a few locations and been very pleased with the service. The drinks actually taste good and are neither watered down nor so stiff that all you can taste is the alcohol. The food is really good too. They start you with complimentary Chinese meatloaf- which was tasty. I thoroughly enjoyed the PuPu platter as well as the house Lo Mein. Really good crab Rangoon too. Food reheats well the next day as well. Only complaint is that I think their prices are a bit high, but not unreasonable or wallet breaking. read more
