I wanted to like this so badly. I received a gift certificate for a 90 minute massage and held onto it for months so that I can use it when I really needed it. This massage clinic is anything but luxury. It is the McDonald's of massages. The room was freezing so I never really relaxed. In 90 minutes my feet got 30 seconds of attention and that was one of the first things I told her was aching me, Followed by my neck and shoulders and for some reason she wound up spending probably a total of a half an hour on my upper inner and outer thighs?!?! The best part of this 90 minutes or when she disappeared for all of five and came back with these hot metal balls that she rubbed for about three minutes around my neck area. I didn't know what to expect since I found this place in Groupon. I don't want to give a bad review. I went for a massage and a facial... the place is not fancy as stated in the reviews. I wanted to enjou my massage, however, I couldn't because she kept leaving the door open and I could hear everything outside of the room. People coming in and out. Also I the facial was less than mediocre. She kept just applying product on my face and spraying something on her hand and tapping it on my face and shoulders!? I just had an excellent massage at Chen's. My regular masseuse was unavailable and I was able to get a same day appointment at Chen's. I suspect the people here don't have the fancy degrees from schools like the Core Institute that provides top notch training but they nonetheless gave a good old fashioned massage that worked out kinks and tight muscles I was experiencing. I received a Mother's Day surprise to come here and get a 120 minute massage. When I came I was met with a smile and I felt welcomed to have been there. I was asked how I would like my massage and was given one of the best full body, hot stone and hot towel massages that I have ever received before in my life. I have been to Chens many times and was very happy with it. Lately I've been going have been disappointed. I ask for deep tissue every time but the past couple times it was a lot of light scratching and not deep tissue at all. I mentioned I was there for head and neck pain and my head and neck were only lightly scratched for about 1 min. I asked for it harder a few times but it didn't change. The time has also been slightly shorter. I'm upset because I was a big fan but have been disappointed. Great place for just relaxing but not if wanting deep tissue :( read more

I'm posting on behalf of my better half, but she had a horrible experience. It's unfortunate because I enjoyed my massage. The guy who worked on her had a cough, and she felt his cough on her a couple times. He also left the room twice, I remember it happening as we shared the same room, taking up basically ten minutes of her 60min massage. My masseuse tended to me well, cracking my neck,hips,joints etc. But the guy didn't do that for her. Apparently just really half assed. If we try this place again she will probably ask for a woman...but we're not really wanting to risk it honestly. read more

I have to admit I was a bit uncertain trying out this new location. My past experiences with massage clinics that have tried to expand has not been favorable, so I made my appointment with a bit of trepidation. Boy was that just silly. Chen's Massage Clinic was a quick easy drive following my workout at Premier Fitness. Chen's is located right across the street from 4 Rivers Smokehouse on Thomasville Rd. Easy to find and plenty of parking. The clinic is cozy and on the first floor, which was nice seeing I had just trained legs at the gym and looked like a one year old trying to walk. Stairs would have been the end of me. I walked in right on time and the place was busy. That was my first good sign. They immediately brought me to my room, which was quite large and actually had two tables set up with plenty of extra room to spare. I undressed as instructed and slid under the sheet. Ooooooh nice... the beds have a warming pad built in. I love places that use a thin sheet to drape you rather than some grandmother's giant 100 pound quilt. With the heat from the bed and a nice thin sheet I was already happy. After a few moments Chen herself came in to give my massage. It has been three years since I last visited, but she remembered. The original location had loud neighbors three years ago, but not this place. The lighting was perfect. The sound was whisper quiet. The bed was toasty, and the second Chen started my massage I knew I had made a great decision. This woman has STRONG hands. I'm talking the kind of hands that could crush rocks if they had to. My sore muscles didn't stand a chance, and I have some pretty good size muscles. By the way, you should never ever challenge this lady to a thumb wrestling contest. Not only would you lose, but your thumb would be smashed flat. The pressure she used was just what I needed. It was slightly more than I thought I could handle, which was perfect. I came in with chest pain from an over zealous workout yesterday, combined with major back pain from incredibly tight hip flexors. Chen went over my entire body like a pro for an hour until every muscle surrendered and I was left limp as a rag. A very happy and pain-free limp rag. This lady knows what she's doing, in fact, out of the hundreds and hundreds of massages I've had across the nation, I would rank Chen at the very top of the list. I give Chen's Thomasville Road Massage Clinic 5 stars for location, 5 stars for an incredible massage, 5 Stars for comfort, 5 stars for how quiet the room was and 5 stars for Chen's amazing personality. If you're looking for the best, then you found it. Now that I'm working in Tallahassee it will not be 3 years before I'm back next time. Came in today because I could not withstand the pain I had on my shoulders and neck from a bad nights sleep and stress. Found Chen's massage clinic on yelp and after reading the reviews I felt very comfortable booking my one hour deep tissue massage because all of my other spots were closed on Saturday's or fully booked. I was greeted upon entry by a very nice lady she took me into a very quite room and asked me to lay flat on my stomach. Before this massage began I could hear the laundry machines because she left the door open in the room as well as the laundry door. Fine by me, I actually found it pretty soothing :b. But as soon as she grabbed my shoulders I knew I was not in the hands of a professional. On the paper work I signed before we began I checked the "hard" massage level because it is what I usually get at every masseuse I've been to. but this was torture. As she pressed her elbow in my shoulder I was in so much pain. I could feel the bruising beginning to accumulate on my back. I very nicely asked her to go a bit softer but it was obvious she could not understand what I was saying. So, she kindly put her phone in my face so her phone can voice recognize what I was saying and translate it for her in her language. I appreciated the gesture and let her try once again. I'm a 21 year old college student and the knots in my back we're begging to take a tole on me. The stress I have been currently under made me unable to move my neck. I asked the kind lady if she can mainly work on the spots where I was in the most pain. She would only work on it for 2 min and go back to the torture on my shoulders. She kept repeating "it's okay" while I was screeching in pain and endured but never again! I rather be very rude and leave then to endure that kind of man handling again. It has been a few hours after my massage and I'm probably going to have to pay someone else to fix what she did to my shoulders. This is a very kind and clean spot but if you are looking for professionals I will not come here! If you are looking for a quick and easy soft massage this is your spot. Not great for deep tissue!!! Went there today after the business was recommended. I made a reservation for today and it was the worse decision. My experience was horrible. I arrived a little early and waited in a room...The massage pressure wasn't what I request..She stopped three times to tend to ppl coming in. She gave me hot stones which wasn't what I requested. I needed a massage on my day off at the last minute. I called several places and was relieved when I called Chen's massage and was able to get right in. That should have been my first clue. I walked into the location on Thomasville Rd. and waited to get the attention of the two women in the back that were taking advantage of their down time to do laundry. A tall, thin, Chinese woman with a very thick Mandarin accent and an apparent inability to smile saw me and walked me to the room. She told me to take off my clothes and lay down on the table in a manner reminiscent of a frustrated 3rd grade teacher that was scolding the one kid in class that was not following her instructions. I looked around the room and saw handrails on the ceiling. I immediately felt I should have asked more questions before making this appointment. Whatever stresses I was feeling in my shoulders that brought me here were suddenly not so bad. But my inner third grader was too scared to come out of the room and not do what the mean lady had told me to do. A few minutes later I was laying on the table and the woman came back in. I stated that the 45-minute massage would be enough for me and this obviously irritated her. She said "one hour only 10 dolla mo!" I told her I only needed 45- minutes and she rolled her eyes and started the massage. Immediately, this massage went into the deepest muscle groups imaginable. I felt her thin, needle-like fingers kneading and manipulating muscles that had not been messed with like that since that time the ER doctor set my broken arm. I now know what pulled pork feels like. I was beginning to wonder if the handrails on the ceiling were for me. I instinctively began using the same deep breathing techniques I used to get through labor. She then progressed to the lower body and ripped the sheet off to well below comfort level. I felt a draft. She asked me if I wanted hot stone and I said yes thinking that it would bring a reprieve from the fingers of pain. I survived the 45-minute session and she left the room. Normally when I get a massage, I am so relaxed I float off the bed. After this massage, I jumped off as fast as i could. Well, as fast as I could after the torture session I received. Upon leaving the room and paying for my own butt kicking, she looked me dead in the eyes and said "we also wax. You get lip done". All things considered, I think I will take my hairy lip and go somewhere else next time. If you like it really rough and don't mind the pain, I would suggest ibuprofen to help with swelling and pain for the next couple days after your massage. I felt bruised....humiliated....embarrassed....and apparently hairy. read more

After hearing good things about Chen's I decided to give it a try. I was immediately brought into a room, but there wasn't much communication in where she wanted me to go or do. In short, she used A LOT of pressure and when I told her that she was doing it a little too hard for me she didn't ease up and seemed annoyed that I wasn't comfortable. At the beginning I told her I only wanted her to work on my upper back and neck and either she didn't understand or just ignored the request because she ended up massaging my whole body. At the end she charged me the wrong amount and I ended up being there longer than I had hoped. Needless to say, I will not be returning. read more

If you're looking for relaxation, this is not the place. I made an appointment for the Mahan location. When I arrived for my scheduled appointment, they had no record of it. The staff began to speak in their native tongue as if they had absolutely no clue what was going on. Not to mention, the place is old and smelly. It had old used furniture and wreaked of mold. I was told to wait while the staff made several phone calls, perhaps to the other location. I stood there while they again communicated with one another in their native tongue.
