We tried this new restaurant today and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The service started off okay, and the chips and salsa were average, but things quickly went downhill. We waited a long time for our food while at least five tables that were seated after us were served first. When our food finally arrived, it was cold across the board. I ordered the mini tacos, and the meat was dry and cold. After trying one, it was clear they were not edible. We asked to send them back and made it clear we did not want replacements since the rest of our group had already tried to eat what they could of their cold meals. At checkout, there was no attempt to make things right--no discount, no removal from the bill. I ended up paying for two full plates that we didn't eat. When I questioned it, I was told that because one taco had been touched, they couldn't reuse the food, so I had to pay for it. That response was frustrating and lacked basic customer service. I understand policies, but there should be some level of accountability when food is served cold and inedible. Very disappointing experience overall. I hope management takes a closer look at both their kitchen timing and how they handle customer concerns. read more

A young lady works here who provides consistently bad service. Every single time my family and I go here she manages to not take our order correctly. Today o ordered take out for my son and my order again was incorrect. I went back to the restaurant to let them know and she rolled her eyes at me. She provided no empathy nor compassion. We keep hearing from friends and neighbors that this place is worth checking out...so after an early Friday morning playing 9 holes of golf, we decided to head out to Chepo's. The place looks pretty spacious inside which you can't really tell looking at its exterior. We were seated promptly and presented the menu. We zeroed in on their breakfast items and I ordered their Huevos Rancheros while my wife tried their Boko Breakfast Burrito. We also ordered coffee with our meal. The coffee served had a chickory flavor to it, reminiscent of flavors from New Orleans. I haven't had a decent huevos rancheros since my college days in So Cal where I, together with other ROTC cadets, would order it from the college cafeteria after our early morning workouts...so I was looking forward to trying it at this joint. The huevos rancheros was very good, although the "hot sauce" needed more heat so I had to ask for a spicier green sauce. The refried beans, over medium eggs, fried potatoes and the crispy bacon were all on point...and the freshly made tortillas were done right. My wife also enjoyed her breakfast burrito although she had to "deconstruct" it so she can eat it with a knife and fork. All in all, a very satisfying breakfast that we truly enjoyed. This place is usually A-Ok to fandom for me, and today was perfect. Asked if there was any caldo left, meaning the advertised $5.99 special: cup of caldo + barbacoa taco. Ended up with a proper bowl, not the teeny cup, and no taco plus a lemonade for under $9 after tax. I will say it's the first time I've gotten a single tortilla in a tortilla warmer, and I regret NOTHING. It helped me clean up the last of the bowl quite nicely. Lovely clear flavorful broth, spoon-carvable big chunks of squash, carrot, potato, beef plus a beautiful garnish ring of sweet corn in that caldo served sun-hot on a rare near-freezing day. I drank broth until there was some room in the bowl, then stirred in my side bowl of rice and squeezed in the lemon. Perfect. Good, unobtrusive service from one lady tending near a dozen tables today. I still recommend stopping here when parking is available in this limited corner lot. read more

Well, disgusting to say the least. Unrolled my napkin and it was already used and rolled again for me. Food from someone else stuck all over it. Ordered coffee and it was delivered with lipstick and a hair stick to side of cup. When menu came it had dried food all over the front of it. Looked like food had spilled on it and no one took the time to even wipe it off. 2 of my guests had coffee as well and their chops had dried coffee all down the sides of it . Absolutely delicious. Dined here for my first time, and I loved it. Tortillas are home made, the cheese melts perfectly into the tacos, so you're not left with cold shredded cheese. The service was fantastic. Sonya is the name of the young lady that took care of us, and she did a phenomenal job. So, all in all, 10/10 stars, for food and service!! Came across this little hole in the wall place and ordered two single tacos. One pastor and one Picadillo. They came out with just meat on a tortilla and at first glance I was not impressed. But wait, the meat was delicious. I enjoyed the Picadillo best of all. Pastor is generally my favorite but their beef was so well flavored. I ordered a side of potatoes that I enjoyed as well. Their chips were Crispy and their hot sauce was spicy. Yum! Service was good and the staff was friendly and the place was clean. This is a small restaurant with limited parking. It was fairly quiet for a busy restaurant. The inside is bright. The service was slow but they are hiring. Now to the food. I had fajita meat nachos. It comes out and I thought that isn't very much. But I ended up only eating half. The other half came home with me. A nice spice on it. My husband enjoyed his He had enchilada taco and chalupa. He enjoyed it. Our very picky son was okay with his bean and cheese burrito. He said it was not warm enough for him. We plan on going back. It is open for breakfast and lunch. I used to go to Los Gallos tacos when I lived in New Braunfels, because they had the biggest and best tacos anywhere in New Braunfels, and I've been looking for something equal in San Marcos, and I'm SO HAPPY that I found Chepo's. Never again. This place is consistent. Consistently bad. The older lady working the register is horrible at customer service. Given circumstances. I came in for lunch today 11/20/14. I know there is way better Mexican food in San Marcos. But sometimes I'm willing to pay more for lower quality food when I'm in a time constraint. This gem is close to my house. And by gem I mean dump. This place smells. They probably don't pick up on it because the manager probably has a smelly house too. Today I ordered beef fajitas. The waitress is always pretty much the same girl when I come in. Pretty, very nice, not super attentive and you will always see them on their phones. She asked me specifically if I would like more chips and salsa. Tip for you people reading this in the service industry. Don't ask if we want free things... Just bring it. Your salsa is watered down anyway it's not going to break your bank. Anyway, I said yes. She just went behind the counter to look at her phone. Food comes out - I asked how much it was for cheese and sour cream and the nice waitress tells me .75 each. So basically $1.50 more for less cheese than you get on a Lolita's taco. Btw Lolita's is waaay better. It gets better... When I go to pay the manager/owner old lady behind the counter with a bad attitude and probably smelly home... I see her ring in $1.99 and I said "what's the $1.99 for?" She said we charge .99 for sides. Well my math adds up to $1.98 99+99 = 198 right? Anyway I tell her that I asked my waitress and she told me specifically.... .75 per side which in my mind is outrageous for something that should come with it anyway. The guacamole came with it... I would rather have cheese and sour cream both cheaper overhead options anyway. I'm not hurting so bad for money but I know when I'm getting ripped off. I barely got a tablespoon of cheese nor a tablespoon of sour cream if even a full tablespoon. Then to be rude and not even apologize and not eat the .48 to make a customer happy. No... She chose for me to put her on BLAST. I will never be back to your disgusting restaurant. Ever. I urge anyone reading this to do the same. Tinder is a nightmare, but sometimes you get something good out of it. In my case, it's Chepo's. I had just moved to town from upstate New York and matched with some dude named Brett or Brent or Brad...I can't remember his name, but that's not important. Also, I think he was ultimately trying to recruit me into his MLM? Anyway, Brant took me to Chepo's for my very first breakfast tacos. Good call, Bread! So, I've only ever been here for breakfast, and only ever ordered the chorizo and egg and chicharron and egg breakfast tacos, but that's because I don't like to mess with perfection. The tortillas are amazing, the salsa isn't too spicy (although I suspect they can hook you up with some more heat if you ask...), and the tacos have the perfect amount of filling, so eating them isn't a messy endeavor. The eggs are just right -- not dry, but not sloppy and all over the place. The tacos stay together, is what I'm saying. All the waitresses are total sweethearts, and the service is great. Not sure what's up with the coffee (it's not the best), but I don't come here for the coffee, so still 5 stars. The tacos are cheap af, too. Maybe I'll make it here for lunch or dinner sometime. read more

I ordered a order Togo they took like 15 min to get it ready when I called ahead and they told me it would be ready in two minutes. When I ordered my large menudo TOGO they gave me it in this little small brown bag. When I got home I grabbed the bag from the top and it completely ripped and my menudo fell everywhere. I called the store to see if I can get a refund and they said no since it didn't happen outside the restaurant, like it was my fault they put my menudo in a cheap paper bag. I'm in town for work, and someone ordered in tacos from this place for breakfast this morning. I was initially kind of taken aback when I picked up my two foil-wrapped packets- they seemed oddly light and thin. However, they were very satisfactory. I realy liked the bean and cheese- I think it's the cheese they use. I love when little hole in the wall mexican restaurants use shredded american rather than cheddar or other cheeses, it just melts better and tastes just like the way my mom made them when I was growing up. That being said, the potato and egg taco was just okay. Nothing wrong with it, but just not really noteworthy. Then again, I realize we're talking breakfast tacos here, and that's pretty hard to screw up. After reading other reviews here and seeing the good things said about their salsa, I'm sad that I didn't taste it. Oh well. As I said, this was a large group breakfast order, so this review doesn't address the restaurant itself or customer service, since I did not place or pick up the order myself. read more

Service is kind of slow, even on a slow day. (I visited both on a busy and slow day). One person per eight table isn't really a good idea, in this small restaurant. I gotta say though that the waitress was very nice. This is more of a college based restaurant, meaning that since it's located down the street of Texas State it's typical that you'll see more college kids. As for the food it was "average". I didn't know what to order here so I just got a plain avocado burger. The burger was good, had a nice little kick (spice) to it and they added a lot of the avocado which I did like. I would order it again, this plate also came with a side of fries as well. Overall if I'm in the area I would probably come back. They are located near the college campus but they do not seem to cater to the college crowd as much as the other nearby restaurants. This review is based on inexpensive Mexican food. The place is very clean with bright and vibrant colors. The lighting is perfect. I had the impression that they really care and take pride in their place. It is a very enjoyable place to eat. The server was a nice young lady that provided laid back and casual service. Attentive but not the atrocious "how is everything" questions that every other server wants to ask every 10 minutes and while you have a mouth full of food. The food is very inexpensive. Considering the price the food is exceptional. Can you find better Mexican food? Probably. But it wont be at this price level. There was not a dish over $10. You cannot even eat fast food for that price. I had the Steak A La Mexicana and I was not disappointed. The tortillas taste and feel homemade. Another reviewer said the salsa is watery...it is. However, the flavor is very good. I cannot stand thick salsa that has no flavor. I don't want to eat chips and tomato chunks. I want to eat chips and salsa. It's THE BEST MEXICAN in town. It's a short minute or two drive from downtown, but well worth the bike ride or drive!! It's the orangish-brown easy-to-miss building at the corner of the stoplight intersection. This place is casual and the food is off the charts. I've never had corn tortilla chips like the ones they serve here. They tasted lighted and fluffier-- like those Popcorners chips...hmm what's their secret? Not sure, but I will definitely be back for more. Just a little hiccup while we were being served...the waitress we had, came to our table with dirty, food cover dishes, while simultaneously asking us if we needed anything else.
