Fuego grill is open 24/7! For a 2am taco run this is a luxury. It's a nice, clean, non-divey restaurant with seating aplenty. It's casual service, order at the counter and they bring you your food. They have a nice selection of tacos, serving all the usual suspect proteins along with breakfast all day. Breakfast tacos notably do not leverage the brisket which is a huge miss imo. Also they serve pepsi which....meh. I got the south padre taco which was fried shrimp and slaw, dr. Pepper Cowboy, a brisket taco featuring dr. Pepper bbq sauce and creamed corn. Food was good. Things have changed. As an Aggie I've been going to Fuego for nearly a decade. It's sad to see that the San Marcos Fuego does not live up to the Fuego name. Half of the menu is gone or changed. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now. When my coworker found out there was a location near me and how good the food was, had to go get us some for the next time we worked. Tacos were amazing, full of ingredients and loved the salsa bar. Really nice interior, much nicer than I was expecting. Clean and neat. Very impressed. Fuego has been a consistent yea yes yes over the years. They are open 24/7 which is already bananas, and the food is really good! I love the Dr. pepper cowboy taco, and I also tried the mango shrimp taco this time. They are very filling so after eating those two and a few chips and salsa I was totally stuffed. We had also ordered their tortilla soup; we ended up taking it to go but it was still delicious the next day. The staff here are helpful and friendly too, and there's plenty of parking, pretty clean bathrooms, and plenty of tables to sit. Back at my old stomping grounds and had to make a stop at Fuego! The staff were friendly and the inside was packed! I ordered two Magic Mushroom tacos and a side of queso, and as always, the food was delicious and plentiful. The tacos were loaded with toppings. Definitely come hungry because the portions are huge. I took home so many leftovers! The only downside was the bathrooms were rough. The smell hits like a ripe porta potty, which isn't exactly the vibe you want after a great meal. Despite that, Fuego remains a San Marcos staple in my books and I look forward to coming back during my next visit to town! read more

What a great find. While heading up to the racetrack in San Marcos, we stopped by for a quick lunch. Fuego Grill does not disappoint. Located on I 35 just south of Texas State University, this location is super easy to get to. Open six days a week. Closed on Mondays. Great for groups. Order at the counter. Lots and lots of options. Check out the menu before you go just so you can be prepared. Staff was helpful and even suggested a few options. I chose the I-Cher-wa-wa with fried avocado on top. It was delicious. I can see this being a regular stop between San Antonio and Dallas. Yes, the tacos were that good. My husband chose a mango tango and magic mushroom taco. He enjoyed them also. Found this Taco spot and it's open 24 hrs. We went in for lunch but decided to order from their all day breakfast menu. I got the chicken and waffles with a side of fries. It came win a tortilla, bacon, eggs, and waffles on each side. My husband got chorizo and eggs tacos and beans and cheese tacos. Not at all stingy with the portions what so ever. Before the dinner hour on a Sunday night, I put in an order for pickup at Fuego. It was ready on time, smelled delicious, and the bags were pretty heavy for forty bucks. Mr R and I split a small tortilla soup with all the toppings and shared a carne guisada and a campeche fish taco. Everything was lovely and put life back into two tired adults who were looking at an early drive in the morning to find a mechanic and a rental car during a major American holiday. Fortunately that worked out for the best and so did this meal. The soup was pleasing with fresh, bright toppings. Guisada had good flavor and wasn't too salty. The fish taco was a buck less than the guisada and while the fish wasn't the most flavorsome, the breading is SO good and stays crunchy, the additional cabbage/pico topping so nice, and the fillings SO GENEROUS that I could happily have this as a weekly staple if my location and schedule were more amenable. The other half of my order was to carry us through the next day or longer. I had a contract after high noon and Mr R had to find a new-to-us EV mechanic in Austin so I ordered a pint of refried beans, a half pint of creamed corn, and a dozen flour tortillas. That was our early breakfast plus a couple tacos to take along for snacks/lunch. It worked out very well as we have 1/3 left in the fridge, we aren't nearly tired of them yet, and it proved both convenient and reasonably priced. Decent fast service, I was expecting more Tex mex options but it's mostly tacos. They were big portions for the price. I had the fish taco wich was enormous and really good. How does this place have 4 stars? If you like good food, please do not go here. We got there at 6pm and it was empty. There was no cashier as she was apparently taking a break or something. We ordered a variety of tacos, including their "popular" tacos. I also got a tortilla soup, which, thank goodness I did because it was the best thing I ate. It had a small kick of spice, some hearty veggies, and a well cooked chicken that was tender and had a flame charred taste. And then it went downhill from there. I got the fish taco, the shrimp taco, and a steak taco. It doesn't really matter what the name was because they were all pretty bad. The fish taco was the worst. Big chunk of fish that tasted undercooked and maybe going bad. The shrimp taco was forgettable except for whatever sweet sauce they lathered on it. The steak taco was the "best" of the bunch as the steak was tender and the combo of corn and potatoes, it was the closest thing to tex mex but still not great. I strongly recommend avoiding this spot as you're better off at a chain like Chuys. read more

Phenomenal breakfast tacos. My wife is basically obsessed. She insists on stopping every morning on her way home from the station to pick up half a dozen chorizo and egg tacos. The sausage egg, bacon egg and potato and egg are delicious as well, but the chorizo ones just hit different. The salsas are a perfect flavor. She started buying 6 (they are good sized and a VERY reasonable price) because she would get mad that I would steal hers from the fridge that she was saving for later. We have only done the drive through but they do have a dining room with margs, etc. Can't speak to that but many of our mornings have started and, needless to say will continue to start with Fuego. read more

This was pretty good, but not as good as I've had in the past. I decided to the fish taco and guacamole. The guacamole was outstanding (as was expected), but with respect to the fish taco, the fish itself wasn't super-flavorful and so the tartar sauce was a necessity. I got the corn tortilla, which they made fresh--excellent--but which was a bit crumbly and didn't really maintain structural integrity. All told, delicious, but not as good as I've sometimes had. We stopped here for lunch and it was one of the worst dining experiences either of us have had in recent memory. Before I even get to the food: Staff were rude (when my order was missing an ingredient listed on the menu it was if I was asking some incredible favor to have it brought out and ultimately declined. The dining area was FILTHY; it was not very busy yet we couldn't find a table that wasn't covered in food and spills. Oy though, the food... If you like half-rancid cooking oil and salt as the only recognizable flavors, this is the place for you. My chicken bowl was otherwise flavorless. i love fuegos - it was my go-to spot in college station when i was in college. i always get the el presidente or southern comfort tacos. the el presidente is packed with chargrilled chicken, smoked bacon, fried avocado, pico de gallo, jack cheese, and chipotle ranch - seriously, it's life-changing. the southern comfort is hand-breaded fried chicken with chipotle cream corn, crispy potatoes, grilled onions, and fresh country pepper gravy - so flavorful. the portions are huge, so i always wish i could order and eat both! you order at the counter, and they bring the food out fast - super easy. it's been too long since i've had it, and i'm so happy they have one in san marcos - the perfect place to eat after shopping at the outlet malls! read more

I was told that the drive through can take time to make and serve an order. There is a taco that's not on The menu but it's still able to be created. It is called the OMG taco or some type of combination of those letters. It lived up to it's name! The queso... That was a great touch. You may have to ask for more queso, they skimped out on mine. I've been to this good little spot several times over the years and was there right after new year 2025 for the first time in a while. The food is still fantastic. By food I mean tacos and tortillas. That alone gets a high review from me and they serve Pepsi. The staff is always helpful and answers any questions we have. I'm exclusively breakfast here and they still didn't disappoint. I was a little reserved when I went in because the dining area was a little messy and water was on the ground for some reason, but I'm used to eating at dives. This place isn't a dive but it could definitely be spruced up a little and cleaned more frequently. They also serve Pepsi, which guarantees when I'm I. Ah! Where do I start! This place was there for Me when I was extremely hungry!!! This service is phenomenal and food is amazing as always!

We've had good experiences here during the day--food is consistently tasty and usually comes out pretty quickly. However, our most recent visit in the early morning hours was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. We arrived around 2:10 a.m. and placed a simple order: three tacos and a small queso. After being asked to pull forward, we waited in our car while they said they'd bring the food out to us. Over the next 45 minutes, staff came out three different times--each with the wrong order. At 2:56 a.m., still without food, we asked if we could please speak to the manager and get a refund. When we asked, one of the employees stated that they were overwhelmed and that the manager, a middle-aged woman, was being no help at all. She showed no urgency, accountability, or willingness to fix the situation, after over an hour of waiting. Instead after they went to speak to her, we were told by them that the order was almost ready and would be out in five minutes. It ended up taking another 15 minutes. My boyfriend finally went inside to check, only to find the manager sitting at the register, not engaged or paying attention, and another employee sitting on a table doing nothing, and there was only one customer inside so I don't see how they could be taking so long. No one seemed aware or concerned that we had been waiting outside for over an hour. Eventually, a staff member noticed him and brought out the food. We left right after--exhausted and just wanting to eat and get home. Unfortunately, when we got home, we discovered they had given us the wrong order--ironically, the same incorrect one they had tried to give us earlier when we were waiting. It's incredibly disappointing because we've had decent experiences here before, but after this level of poor service, mismanagement, and lack of basic communication, we won't be returning. I like Fuego. As someone that works nights I love the hours they provide. My coworkers are always asking for our orders and heading over to get everyone food. I've been on dates inside and gone through their drive through. They were all good experiences all around. The only problem I have is that the tacos are never labeled or at least separated. It would be nice if when doing drive through especially for large orders if someone could label what everything is. Otherwise we have to open each others orders to see what's what which isn't very sanitary. A quick sharpie abbreviation would be SO helpful. The food is good. Noticed immediately that the drive thru was popular! We ordered, grabbed our drinks and I was so enamored when my taco arrived I completely forgot about the salsa bar and dug in. The El Guapo paired pulled pork, eggs, beans, grilled onions, and poblano queso. Perhaps a bit light on the pork being the only criticism. Factor in the $3.99 price point and it wasn't a thing. Fuego is straight fire. I was introduced by a homie years ago and it's become part of our ritual to swing through on our way back from Austin trips. The tacos are huge and there's some really great options. My go-tos are the chicken and waffle (literally a tortilla with 2 waffle triangles, scrambled eggs, bacon, and a chicken tender with a side of syrup) and the magic mushroom (Chipotle dreamed corn, Pico, bacon, pepper jack cheese, chargrilled chicken, and tons of mushrooms) The prices on the specialty tacos may seem a bit steep ranging from about $4.50-6 each but they're definitely worth it with how big they are and the flavors they deliver.
