Eileen M. is onto something. She urged us to give this place a look and today we did. Probably the best Mexican food I've had outside our hometown and outside of San Antonio, cause bruhhh, pinche Austin's mexican food nomas no guey. San Martians have incredible gem here. We had the breakfast barbacoa and pork chop plates plus a lengua taco. First, the lengua taco came out on warm corn tortillas, and the lemgua was tender and in sliced bite siced chunks. By itself, it was pretty good - with ANY of their salsas, even better. The wife had the barbacoa taco plate: barbacoa was all meat, great tasting but not greasy. I had the pork chop plate and I i must say, it's one of the most flavorful and juicy pork chops I've had. Both the barbacoa and pork chop plate came with delicious refreid beans that had tons of flavor. The other side that came with the plates were potatoes. Therese were freshly made, soft and pillowy and nicely seasoned. You know how you know your food is os perfect? When you dont have to add salt or pepper and here, this was the case here. And let's not skip over their homemade salsa. There's at least 8 homemade salsas of varying flavors and heat level. All are outstanding and you should try them all. Even their hottest ones have so much flavor you'll want more even though your mouth may be on fire. Heat and flavor - they've perfected each and every one of their salsas. Super impressed with todays breakfast as we'd been longong for some great Mexican breakfast plates. Why the heck haven't I been here sooner? Straightforward, solid grub. 6.99 pancake plate includes some thin sliced ham and an egg cooked your way. I was surprised at the heft of that beautiful pancake, this was more than I expected. 13.24 barbacoa plate had a decent scoop of meat--good flavor, not excessively greasy. Beans, potatoes, eggs, and a tortilla of my choice were all pleasing. Paid 50c to add avocado. Description on Yelp menu said the eggs would be scrambled but the picture showed fried. I wasn't given an option how I wanted my eggs, and was happy as a clam when they showed up over easy. Yelp routed the order through Grubhub and it showed up correct and on time. They included two shots each of butter, pancake syrup, hot sauce, and two packs of flatware without my requesting anything. Either of these are a great start to the day; we will be back. read more

The chalupa and nachos were especially delicious, packed with fresh ingredients and generous portions. Both the orange and green salsas had a good kick to them. We had dinner here on a Tuesday evening. We walked to the counter to order our food but we were told that we will be served at a table, so we sat down at a booth. The interior of the restaurant is clean. Our server took our order of the Al pastor plate and the fajitas. We were served chips and salsa and three large waters. The meals came out fairly quickly. We enjoyed the food with the exception of the beef, which was fairly tough to chew. The salsa and the flour tortillas were very fresh. If you follow along, you know we will travel for food...and for us San Marcos is pretty close and has a lot to offer in the form of Mexican Food. Place is pretty small, older but clean...And Packed!...We walked in around noon on Sunday, and its a seat yourself joint...spotted a table with 3 chairs and with 3 of us...perfect fit. Although service was pretty slow, these girls were Hustlin there buts off, taking orders and dishing out food as quick as they can...Several people walked thru the door looking for a place to sit...and they either left or put in a to go order. For us this was a good sign and trust me when I say it was worth the wait. We started with Chips, salsa and Queso...Everything was good, but make sure to ask for the bottled salsas as both are superior to the one on the table...its still good, but these are better. The food came out piping hot. Wife went with the chicken flautas, which were packed out, crispy and delicious...She used the bottled red for dipping. The GD went with the small quesadillas (3) with Barbacoa....Personally they looked like taco, she truly enjoyed them...Barbacoa was legit all day...super tender, not greasy and very good...I was really exited to get half of the last one because she was full. Mine was the Tejano plate, with uber tender Carne Guisada, 2 cheese enchiladas, killer beans, rice and a side of tortillas. Small unassuming place in San Marcos that serves a killer carne guisada, good cheese enchiladas, and wonderful sides of beans, rice, and salsa. The service is exceptional , friendly, and attentive. I ordered steak chalupa and a gordita with beef fajita. It was not good. The gordita was fried too long and was very hard, I could not cut it without it breaking, so I tried to just break off a piece and it it that way, then decided to just eat the filling. The meat was so very awful. It tasted like it was too old and had a flavor i had never tasted. Same for the chalupa. My husband ordered tacos and could not eat his either due to the rotten meat taste. I do not recommend it. Service was good and fast. read more

Very bad experience Toma Taco started off with such good service and food and although the food has remain mostly consistent it is over shadowed by the horrible service. The waitress (the owner's daughter) failed majorly and was a poor reflection of the entire establishment. She had an awful personality she was sulking and not smiling or welcoming. We asked for drinks, chips and salsa, and plates of food that never came. We had asked for posole and were told they were out. Later during our visit other tables were given chips and received posole. We are a family of 7 that would come in regularly and spend more than $100 per visit, but our money will no longer go to a restaurant with waitstaff with such poor pitiful work ethic. It's time for a shift in society no more accepting such terrible service! read more

Do not use delivery via the Toma website site! Placed an order for over $100 plus $15 tip, received a confirmation email with delivery estimate of 45 minutes and my credit card was charged. An hour later I called the restaurant and was told they don't offer delivery and my order was never received. The employee refused to believe I had placed an order with them and tried to tell me I needed to order again or use Door Dash. Having already paid, I declined her offer. She finally called her manager (who was apparently at home) and said "oh yeah, we do offer that now. We'll get your order right out" - no offer of discount or refund of my tip. Yikes! read more

Two words: SALT BOMB. I'm giving two stars because delivery was well executed (food neatly organized in the white box, good meat-to-shell ratio, salsa and napkins included, correct order, etc.) and because we only tried one dish (crispy tacos in both chicken and beef). But dinner did NOT hit the spot... Could've gotten the same great crunch with a lot less salt from Taco Bell. In the future, I'll try a different dish to confirm whether the over-salting is a consistent problem. I have come here many times from 2021 to now and I have never had a bad experience. They give you big portions for a good price and great quality. Do not go to the big flashy restaurants in San Mo I would take Toma Taco over them easily. Chile Verde Plate, Mini Taquitos and Enchiladas Verdes are my go to's.
