Harris Regional lacks qualified medical staff due its remote Appalachian location. It will take years for modernization to catch up in these parts. The public assistance programs are not helping people in these parts improve their lives with individual independence. In fact public assistance programs are causing the opposite, dependency and stagnation. Example; when a farmer continues to feed its livestock with by filling the feeding troth after winter has passed and spring has arrived, the livestock will not move out to Greener pastures on their own. The livestock remains at the troth awaiting for it to be refilled. The livestock got use to the dependency and prefers the handout vs. self sufficient independence.

The staff, the food, the common sense levels, etc. They took my perfectly healthy baby boy poked him with needles, hooked him up to machines, told us we had to transfer to mission to hook him up to an EEG machine and got us stuck in a 3 day NICU protocol for no good reason. I had a Frank Breech Homebirth and our son was 8lbs 6 oz. We are exhausted and impatiently waiting to go home. Every person I encountered judged me for birthing my son in the safety of my home. Sometimes tests and poking and prodding is justified and warranted and sometimes doctors make orders that cause more harm than good.

It's astonishing for Harris Regional to implement a kiosk for folks arriving to register for their appointment.

I'm confused by the low ratings of this practice. I arrived at 9:30 (they open at 9:00am) without…read morean appointment. They waiting room was half full. After signing in and having a seat for just a few minutes they gave me the standard paperwork to fill out. I was pleased that they didn't ask for the same information repeatedly which is far too common a practice in the medicine. They informed that they wait would by 90 minutes. Not surprising in a small community with limited medical services and no appointment. As predicted I was in the examination room talking to the doctor within 90 minutes. Dr. Jane was attentive, prescribed a remedy that worked effectively within an hours, and sent me home with a prescription to address the issue in the coming days. The doctor was great, and the office staff friendly and efficient.

What a disservice to the community that the only Urgent Care in the county is now closed on Saturdays so you have to drive all the way to Sylva for the closest. They also haven't updated that online, so I had looked up what time they opened on Saturdays online and wasted my gas driving there. Drove to Sylva and I'm not the only one here from Bryson City and it's packed because it's serving 2 counties now. It's such a shame for the community. I understand a lot of people don't want to work on Saturdays, that's why you rotate workers schedules. Please go back to being open on Saturdays and doing the sign in with phone number and you wait in your vehicle until called to come in which is great so you aren't waiting in the waiting room with other people that you may be infecting because you have something worse then them or vice versa. That was a great change during peak Covid time they went to and I don't know why they went back to everyone going inside again the last time I had went there.

From the moment that I…read moreentered the emergency room until I was released, I could not have asked for better care. I spent five days there with the first three under quarantine. I was informed in detail as to the medications being administered, why, and what would be the expected results. I was on a prescribed diet and once again was informed as to why in simple, understandable layman language. Regardless of a staff members position, whether a doctor, nurse, dietician, or even someone on the custodial staff, before leaving the room I was always asked if I needed anything or if they could do anything to make me more comfortable. Of course they would need to ask my nurse before giving me anything but, they asked! The staff was always polite and respectful and came to work with their sense of humor. The whole time, I felt that I was a special patient. Of course I was not but, this was how I was treated and how I felt. Truly, I believe that their great care care overall contributed my very rapid recovery. Two of my nurses, Amy and Jennifer were absolutely priceless. They always asked me about my condition and how I felt, in my own opinion. Many evenings they would take time out to just have a conversation with me, not related to my illness, but just on a person to person level. No one wants to be hospitalized but with my recent experience with these great and caring people, this is where I would want to receive my care.

They got me into triage and quickly to an exam room. The nurses and Doctor was wonderful. After blood work and a CT scan I was quickly admitted and sent to a room where a team got me started on antibiotics. I spent the next four days with constant care. I truly believe they saved my life. Was everything perfect? No. My one and only issue was housekeeping. I have been in several hospitals in my life due to surgeries and all those had daily room cleaning. No house keeper came to my room even though the nurses had dropped things on the floor and the trash can was always full. On the third day a lady came and stuck her head in the door stating she was the housekeeping Manager and asked me if a housekeeper had come in to clean the room. I told her Not since I have been here. She said one would be here shortly. No housekeeper ever came until the day I was being released. All she did was empty the trash can and leave. Someone needs to get on this!

I threw something into the hall to get help to go to THE BATHROOM. I did NOT want to use my call button, but they put it in a chair across the room from my bed. I was incredibly ill, but I had to crawl to the chair to get help. DO NOT expect medical "care" from this facility: BEDLAM was shut down, I thought. OH! and I lay in the Reception area--covered in vomit for HOURS. EVERYONE coming into the hospital got to check me out. The Guard wearing a gun and a badge came over to tell me that "JESUS" hates what I did. Jesus did not show up when I was trying to die--how does "He" even fucking know? This place is a ghoulish, UNPROFESSIONAL org. Oh, and they hung up on me when I was disputing the bill. I NEVER swear of insult the human I'm speaking to. If I'm mad, I have a different tone of voice--AS IS MY RIGHT.
