So how can you pay a bill without a balance. Seems sketchy to myself. If I can help it I will not be back here for myself. They need to sell to UAB so we can have a decent hospital in the area!

I can…read morehonestly say the doctors and staff of the Emergency room, ICU, and Cardial Step Down Unit saved my life. My understanding is I put the staff trough "Hell" my first day there. I don't remember anything about the first two or three days there. They sedated me. I was their guest from July 4 to July 10th. I can't remeber all the doctors, but I do remember Dr.Patel, Dr.Higgins, and Dr,O. I can honestly say these wonderful people saved my life. The housekeeping staff, nurses, and food service also played a great role in saving my life as well. They all deserve a world of credit. By-the-way people say hospital food is bad...not at Riverview. I and my wife found their food to be quiet good. God Bless the staff there!

If you are admitted, your doctor will not be allowed to attend you, as no physicians have privileges there. The one doctor on duty at the hospital is not going to be someone who could get a job anywhere else. It is run by and staffed with judgmental people who have all kinds of agendas other than patient care. The bathrooms and patient rooms are not just dirty, they look like they have not been properly cleaned in years. How they pass hospital accreditation is a mystery to me. The food is scant and unappetizing. My mom was served a plate of plain iceberg lettuce for dinner. When she asked for a proper meal the dietician came to her room to tell her that the hospital didn't have the money to provide more than that. Everything about this place needs to be improved, but no one in authority is willing to work that hard, apparently. Jackson county deserves a decent hospital and this one falls far short of that bar. Save yourself, go somewhere else.

My experience at Marshall Medical North on June 19th was extremely alarming and put my health at…read moreserious risk. I was evaluated during my first visit that late morning/early afternoon and was told to return immediately if my condition worsened. Later that same day, my symptoms became significantly worse, so I returned as instructed. During this second visit, the physician on duty did not come into the room, did not examine me, did not reassess my symptoms, and did not repeat labs despite clear deterioration. The medical record from that second visit states that an exam was performed and that I was "in no distress." This is not accurate. I was sitting on the side of the bed actively vomiting, in severe pain, and visibly unwell. My blood pressure at discharge was 90/43. After being discharged in that condition, I traveled to a hospital in Birmingham, where I was immediately admitted with acute kidney injury and infection. I remained hospitalized from June 19th to June 23rd and required urgent surgery on June 22nd to remove the obstructing stone once the infection and kidney injury were stabilized. I have filed formal grievances with both the hospital and my insurance provider regarding the care I received during the second visit. Based on what happened to me, I cannot recommend this ER and would not feel safe returning. However, I do want to acknowledge that the initial doctor I saw, Dr. John Alves, was outstanding. He acted quickly, ordered the appropriate tests, and made sure I received pain relief. I truly appreciate his care and professionalism. I only wish he had still been on duty when I returned in worsening condition.

If I could rate zero stars I would. After finally getting to the back, the staff was very polite. They asked about my experience in the front and apologized for the treatment. Do you love waiting for at least three hours in an ER bed? Do you love nurses that would rather…read morestare at their phones than actually check on patients, and wait nearly 5 minutes to answer a call button? Would you like to be brought in by an EMT and left in the hallways screaming when only three rooms have patients in them? Would you like to wait those three+ hours and never even see the doctor once? How about have them give you a prescription for something you don't even have just so they can dismiss you and charge insurance. Oh, that prescription will worsen your symptoms, by the way. I have never used this ER, personally. But I have brought several family members and the things I have witnessed are beyond terrible. Dirty floors and walls. Dried blood and pulverized pills on the floor. I watched a woman suffer in the hallways because it took over an hour to clean a room for her. Then they shoved her in the room when she would scream and nobody went to check on her. She hit the call button and a voice came over the speaker asking what was wrong but she couldn't get words out except yelling. The nurse? on the speaker just kept asking over and over what the patient needed. The room was two doors down from the desk. Finally I heard an exasperated sigh, the scooting of a wheeled chair, and the nurse at the door asking the woman if she rang and what she wanted. She told the lady the doctor would be in in a bit, and left her suffering. In the time I sat with family waiting to see a doctor, which never came, I saw two bodies wheeled out the door by the funeral home. Bills were charged to insurance stating that they had seen the doctor, but they 100% did not. The staff threw away my person's samples and when asked to give more- they couldn't. So, my family member was given an incorrect assessment and medicine that aggravated the situation. My other family member went in with a kidney stone. They made him wait for over two hours before taking him to CT. They would not give him any medicine but instead let him suffer for over three hours. Finally, they gave him some heavy medicine (very addictive, probably not the best choice when something could do just as well and not cause possible future problems- but, hey, I'm no doctor). Sent him home to come back if needed. His three+ hours of suffering and only seeing a doctor right before leaving, left a bill of 10K. Uninsured. So, I would say go anywhere else. If you can. These were by far the worst experiences I've ever had in an ER and I have seen some bad ERs!

The staff was very helpful with explanations of what would be happening, they catered to my wife and I to make sure we had what we needed, and the biggest thing to me was that they constantly checked in on my wife while I was having surgery (that meant a lot to her). Even the doctor him self (Dr Lawler) checked in on my wife twice to update her. I'd say that the quality of care that I received was excellent today. So a big thank you to the staff that cared for me at Stringfellow!!!
