Soup is decent. Flavored ice tea is great. The area where this place shines is cake. You cannot go wrong with any flavor. I would have a salad with cake again but skip the sandwich or soup. If I could rate the cake only it would be a 5. But I cannot so giving it a 3.5. It might be nicer to sit outside too on a nice day. read more

This place is a little gem in Athens with both outdoor and indoor seating spaces. We stop in annually on our way to pick up our Girl Scout from a nearby camp. Heard of this place on my stay at a Getaway cabin. It was the cutest little shop with a variety of lunch items and sweet treats. Service here was great. They were so accommodating for my vegetarian diet and made sure the soup and sandwich were both fully vegetarian. Theres plenty of outdoor seating and a few tables inside as well. It seems like I eat here every time I'm in town. I always get the chicken salad plate which is delicious. I'm gluten-free so I try to remember to have them give me an extra pickle instead of the roll because dang it, if that thing is on my plate, I'll eat it! So moist and yummy and evidently, I have no willpower. I always drag my husband and brother and I know they think it's too girlie but there is always another guy or two and they eat every bite on their plate so I think the manly stuff is for show. The staff is friendly and very accomodating. The Bakery/Cafe' is cozy & quaint. The decor is a collection of days gone by.....mismatched tables and chairs & creaky wood floors.....reminders of my Grandmothers house. The fine aroma of coffee and bakery goods will welcome you when you walk through the front door. Cherry Laurel offers a wonderful selection of homemade soups and sandwiches. This quaint little place is in my hometown. The BEST cake you can get anywhere! Butter rum = heavenly & the ultimate wedding cake. My siblings have had it for their weddings; we even drove my brother's cake down to San Marcos when he got married! So far as the cafe, it is reasonably priced & the food is delicious. The bakery has all kinds of fantastic treats available in a case or made to order, including slices of all their cakes, cupcakes, cakeballs, bars, and fudge. And to top it off, the staff is great: friendly, attentive, and courteous. The last time I went I got there 5 minutes before closing and they still cheerfully served me (they close at 3 a couple days a week). Check their hours before you go, but go you must! :) read more
