The food and service were top notch, the jazzy music was fun, and all in a comfortable quirky environment! I really enjoyed it!

We took off on a Sunday drive to Athens taking every FM road we could. The drive is a hilly beautiful relaxing experience. We went as far as Lake Athens to the Athens Boathouse Bar and Grill (which we knew was closed), to check out the location. We tooled around Athens just enjoying the Sunday. Having been to the Fisheries and the Botanical Garden before, we were looking for a different place to stop. A quiet offbeat place with food and sweet treats was what I had in mind. Callaways Coffee and Bistro popped up as a little house with adorable photos and lovely reviews and off we went. It was perfect. They have REAL FOOD here. I tried to reproduce the menu, but seriously they have pages of breakfast, salads and sandwiches. And COFFEE, of course. I had this amazing 100% Angus patty Cheeseburger - an enormous perfectly cooked patty. ($9.95) My husband ordered the Ragun Cajun, a spicy Chicken breast on ciabatta that he loved. ($9.95) They still had pie, blondies, cookies and assorted yummy sweet treats under glass. I had the Buttermilk pie with a Tender crust and totally delicious filling! ($2.75) Our server was a terrific young man; personable, helpful and a good cook! We had a good time. The bathroom is Unisex and clean. There is plenty of seating. We sat at a regular dining table, but there are plenty of tables for two or three in addition to chairs and sofas. Most parking is street side. I'm looking forward to coming back! read more

Was looking for a coffee shop near by and stumbled upon this cute little place! Walked in a was greeted and had such a warm cozy feeling. Had plenty of seating and also think there is a place to sit outside. Little one got a hot chocolate with marshmallows and whip cream (kids favorite of course). I got a Nutty Cowboy latte because who doesn't love caramel, vanilla and hazelnut?! Sweetness and temperature was perfect. Was planning to taking it to go but ended up finding this cozy seat in the corner and play a quick game of Jumbling Tower. It's a bit of a drive from where we escape too but it's worth the drive and will more than likely be coming here. read more

Don't think I'll ever be here again, but was in Athens, TX dropping off a rental car on the way to pick up my new car from Frankston, TX. Decided to support a local business and grabbed a coffee from Callaways. Good coffee and good service from the barista. Looked like a cool spot to hang out in and I think they serve food, too? Sadly I was back in the car minutes after ordering so I didn't get to experience the vibe more than I did. read more

Cozy home turned into Bistro that you almost miss it driving by. Outdoor seating available but it looked a little unkempt, so we decided to eat in the cozy warm ambiance inside. Limited seating and was already getting busy as they opened at 11am on a Sunday. So far the only things I've noted improvement on are some weed whacking, raking, and old pots with dying plants outside. Inside, some of the tables still had crumbs and/or dried up coffee. No alternatives to pork like turkey bacon and turkey sausage. Having turkey instead would be a great option. Barista came right over to clean and apologized. Sweet guy and I felt bad he seemed like he had no help. It took awhile to receive our order but he really tried to work quickly and get orders out, plus I really liked that they have sugar free options for drinks. It's not easy catering to diet restrictions, and being alone, so I understand. My food was just okay, but my husband enjoyed his burger. If I lived close, maybe I would stop by and try them again but since I'm about a 45 minute drive, I don't think I will be. If you live close by and are okay just hanging out, this place is good for that. It's cozy. read more

I love the concept of this cute local coffee shop. My cafe au lait was super weak though. And although the coffee shop was cute, it needs some TLC. The walls, furniture and floor are beat and run down. Lots of cobwebs and dusty baseboards. The ambiance and coffee definitely fell flat. read more

My friend and I were looking for a cute and quiet place for a late breakfast in Athens. We found this place on Yelp and as soon as I read to her that it was in a house, we made a beeline over there. It couldn't have been more perfect! We didn't want a chain or a noisy place, and as it turns out, we were the only ones in there (people started arriving as we were leaving). Matthew took our order, prepared our food, made our yummy lattes, and made us feel very welcome. Part of me doesn't even want to leave this glowing review, because I plan to drive over from Dallas on a regular basis and I want the place to myself again (just kidding). As I walked into this enchanting place with flowers and plants galore, I gasped! Gorgeous and locally owned and the staff helps when you're not quite sure what to have!! It's so cosy, nice and everything is yummy! This day I tried green tea with honey & lemon. It was excellent. I truly haven't had anything I didn't like! An adorable little coffeehouse I stopped at on my way back to Austin. It's very charming and quaint, and has a very relaxed vibe. The have tons of specialty coffee flavors. I wasn't feeling too zazzy so I just got a vanilla latte with soy milk, and threw some cinnamon on top. It was delicious! I've never had such a foamy SOY latte. The barista dude makes some good coffee. Also very friendly. If I am ever passing through, I would love to stop by again! Great coffee. read more

Wonderful coffee shop kind of a hidden gem here in Athens Texas situated in a 50s house on South Prairieville Street several blocks east of TVCC . The food here is superb Kimberlee the chief cook and bottle washer has won first prize several times at our Uncle Fletch ( supposedly the fellow who introduced the hamburger to the American public ) her sandwiches are really delicious and her pastries are delicious as well. All the fraps , lattes and coffees are excellent as well and reasonably priced. Comfortable setting with free WiFi . This is the cutest little coffee shop!! It's super cozy and quaint (and very clean) Their menu is very vibrant and easy to read, meaning it's very easy to find exactly what you're in the mood for. We got the iced Marilyn Monroe and the Cowgirl and chilled out for a couple hours. It was super fun and relaxing! Another fun part about this place is that they have journals for their customers to write and draw in, and they were so much fun to look at. This is a hidden gem for Athens. The service is excellent, the coffee is great and the food is delicious. I had a ham and muenster melt on a croissant and it was perfect. There are books available for reading and a sketch book you can add your own art to if you'd like. We had such an incredible experience at Callaways! From the minute we pulled up, it was so cute and in a nice little brick home. When you walk inside it feels like a warm hug. The food was delicious and the coffee drinks were so amazing!! Keaton was so friendly and kept checking on us and asking us how the food was. We felt so taken care of. He was the only one working and did an awesome job! It is a one-person operation and everything seems made to order so definitely go with the intention it could take a little bit for you to get your food, but the vibe in there is so nice you're going to want to sit around and hang anyways! My only suggestion is just changing the online business hours because it said opened at 8:30am but it was actually opened at 7am and would've loved to go sooner! Either way, we are definitely stopping in tomorrow before our drive home back to Houston!! read more
