This is a great little local find- small tiny town and we found this restaurant for lunch after doing some blueberry picking. The inside has a great vibe- love the way it's decorated. The menu is quite extensive, maybe a little too much but it seems they do a good job. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. This place was very accomodating to the kids- they brought out paper and crayons for the kids and even added some fruit to their kids plates and brought an extra since they were splitting. Their fries are homemade and hand cut- they might need to be fried a little longer because some were soft or perhaps cut smaller but they were good. They make their sauces, dressings, soups, etc from scratch. My mom said even the salad croutons seemed to be homemade. I tried the tomato soup but next time i want to try the french onion. There's really a lot of things i want to try! I got the appetizer crab cakes- they needed a little something, some more flavor, salt, seasoning or something in my foodie opinion but they were good overall. I think there's a lot of things on the menu to explore to find out favorites. We will definitely be back and definitely recommend!

I've been to many places where people claim to have the best chicken fried steak, and you give it a shot and it's just alright... well, this place by far has the best CFS! Also all the sides were outstanding!! Honestly, everything we ordered here was great! Total hidden gem! Everything we tried was delicious! Customer service was amazing! If I'm back out towards Edom I will have to stop back in!

They are now open 7 days a week! Sunday 10-3 Mon-Sat. 10-8 You can send a question to them on Messenger. They have very occasionally had to close unexpectedly for a business day, due to unforeseen circumstances, and having a small staff. So feel free to call, or message ahead of time. Reservations are accepted.

Wow! Small place, amazing food. I had crab cake eggs Benedict and a mead flight. I will say they make the food to order, so get some mead and enjoy the wait!

OMGosh. The fried banana pudding pie!!

What an amazing find! This was our first visit and it definitely won't be our last! The food was AMAZING, the service was fantastic (thank you, Melissa!), and the atmosphere was super cool. I got the chicken fried steak and it was arguably the best I have ever had...and I'm a CFS snob! It was seasoned well and perfectly crispy on the outside, and the meat was tender and definitely fresh and cooked to perfection. The skin-on mashed potatoes were buttery and creamy and equally as good. The Hub had the prime rib hash topped with beautiful eggs and he cleaned his plate! But...the dessert...just...WOW!! We had the fried banana pudding and it was not only beautiful in appearance, it was like Heaven in each bite. I'm so glad we stumbled on this place and can't wait to try everything on their menu!!

Chicken fried chicken was juicy and properly seasoned and the best we'd ever had. Ditto for the green beans and the okra. She wouldn't tell us what she puts in the green beans, but it's some combination of bacon grease and magic, I swear. The okra was fresh cut, fresh battered, fresh fried, unlike every other place I get it where you can tell it's out of a bag. Hot water cornbread was ah-mazing. I only wish I had honey to slather on it along with the butter. White gravy was fantastic, with just a hint of sweetness we couldn't quite put our finger on. Chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were delicious, but also the only things I can say were on par with some of our other favorites. Prices are extremely reasonable. And the service is as down home and personal as you would expect at a place like Sylvia Mae's. But don't expect quick delivery of your food. One thing I found extraordinarily great about this place is they told me everything is made in house. Which is hands down a plus and make everything much more tasty. Starting with the lunch food, I think they have one of the best burgers around the area! It's very good! They have a burger called the salamander burger, which is double meat, double cheese, and green chilis. It's not on the menu, but if you ask for it they know exactly what you are referring to. If you order the standard burger on the menu it's only one patty. We went on a Saturday morning and surprisingly there weren't very many people there. My only note about this, is the service was very slow. Great help, just slow.

And whenever we take a drive like that, we make it our mission to find a highly rated local lunch spot. This one was on the way home and looked promising, so in we went. I will say this for Texas. Onion rings are everywhere here, far more than when I lived in California. I will happily take that as a win, because the heat for about nine months of the year is not my jam. Sadly, the onion rings were not listed as one of the many sides (so we couldn't get them as a side with our meal), but we ordered them as an appetizer ($8.99 I think) with blue cheese dressing. I am not a ranch girlie, and I stand by that choice. The blue cheese had huge chunks in it, which makes me think it might be house made (bonus point!). Now, the rings. I am firmly Team "Battered" Onion Ring over Team "Breaded", and these absolutely delivered on the team battered. They were almost chicken-fried, -- super craggly, crispy, and deeply satisfying. These were the star of the meal, so do yourself a favor and order them - but you need a friend to share them with, its a heavy portion. They also have great lunch specials, most around eleven dollars. I got the pot roast with two sides, refried beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. After indulging in the onion rings, I was not exactly starving, so I ended up with enough leftovers for another full meal. The pot roast was nicely shredded and tender, and the gravy was rich, flavorful, and worth every calorie. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, (he's obviously on a diet!), with fried okra and mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was forgettable, but everything else on his plate was solid. Service was friendly and efficient, and this place definitely fills up at lunch, so plan accordingly. A very good roadside stop, and proof that sometimes the best meals happen when you are just out running errands.
