I can't speak as to how this business was in the past, but I can attest in 2018 and 2019 I have ordered dozens of times and always been very happy. Keep in mind that this business liquidates yarn. They are extremely busy sorting, taking pictures, and listing yarn and craft items. I have only experienced mininal mistakes in my orders, I imagine mistakes sometimes happen when a small team deals with literal TONS of mixed stock from lys and estates. The only mistake I've experienced is only 2 of 4 of something I ordered was in stock. I was issued a refund. I've gotten to die for yarn in grab bags and sales. It has totally revitalized my stash and given my production work so much color and quality at so little cost. My weaving business has been taking off, and ive been getting large custom orders which I'm able to fill at fantastic prices because of this business. An order for a full sized wool blanket? Cherry hill sent me 2 pound cones of wool yarn for $1 a piece. When I've called the phone was answered. I've left notes on their fb and they've always been answered even though they are generally just praise and require no answer. I tell my friends and family about this place. I tell crafters I meet in town. It's incredible. However, if you're looking for a lys where workers have time to talk about your WIP and make you a coffee, this is not that. Your purchase of a quality skein of yarn for 40 cents does not pay anyone's hourly wage, but if you want some fantastic bamboo needles for 2.00, or to stash up, help businesses that are moving on and help yourself to a good deal, it is here. I hate writing a negative review but felt that others who may shop here should be warned. The customer service is so bad, attitude is nasty and shopping on the site is as difficult as it comes. Many will not even be able to browse through the categories so may not find what you are looking for anyway. I was given a coupon code to use but it continued to fail. I went ahead and placed my order and contacted the shop during operating hours to see if they could apply the discount. They refused several times and got extremely defensive. I have now received the yarn I ordered and the color is so far off that I may not be able to use the yarn for the project it was intended for. From what I read here, they do not exchange or refund orders. I will not even try because I have already encountered the nasty attitudes there. In the 40+ years I've been knitting I have never had a more unpleasant experience with yarn. After finishing a piece for my granddaughter in Cherry Tree Yarn, Wild Cherry, cotton, I rinsed it to block and the dye ran so badly that my hands and fingers were stained red for days and the dye that dripped on my sink counter stained the counter pink. Do NOT buy from them. I ordered from their website during a promotion. I chose the cheapest option for the shipping at checkout. I just received an email saying they were canceling my order for "violating the terms and conditions clearly printed directly ON the checkout page of our website (as well as our FAQ & Terms pages AND in the advertisement email you received from us). Nothing was hidden from you - you agreed to these terms by signing up on our website for an account and placing an order". I never received an advertisement email. Now they are charging me a $7.50 RESTOCKING FEE which is more than the cost of the yarn I ordered! They have been extremely condescending and rude in their communication with me. I've never had anything but great luck with their yarn. You really want to read descriptions... because a lot of the stuff is mill end yarn or roving... seconds. That's OK with me though, as long as the orders keep coming in as they've been displayed on the site. They have amazing photographs of each skein too... they almost look like professional photos - and what comes in the mail is what I see in the pictures. When I started this review, there was only one positive review written. It appears to have been taken down (or changed to another name...). It was written by an EMPLOYEE of the company, Josh. Josh's review must have been taken down when I highlighted in our BBB complaint that this company's dishonestly spreads all the way to yelp! After being contacted by Cheryl Potter's lackey, Josh, we agreed to consign with DBNY. EVERY promise they made, they backed out on and changed the terms to suit their interests. When they violated the agreement and we asked them to end the sale and take down our inventory, they refused. They literally held OUR property hostage and profited from it. They also sold items they were not permitted to and "liquidated" irreplaceable personal and sentimental items. We filed a BBB complaint hoping to save our property and mediate some sort of resolution. Cheryl Potter / DBNY/ Cherry Tree Hill Yarn refused to respond to BBB in a timely fashion or work to resolve the dispute. This company and its owner are some of the most dishonest, inappropriate and rude people/entities I have ever done business with. Simply put, they are liars and cheats. If you need yarn or supplies, support your local stores or independent people online. If you have inventory to sell, liquidate locally or donate (you'll probably get more in return...). On vacation just a few miles away and I broke a knitting needle so I started googling yarn shops. Imagine my delight in seeing Cheer Tree Hill yarn. I've bought their yarn so many times in the past, I was totally delighted. However - I got there and they gruffly tell me it's just mail order and that's it and offer no suggestions as to where I might actually purchase any knitting supplies. Totally weird in my experience - knitting merchants tend to be the nicest people ever. Anyway - don't go there. It's a waste of time. (As for me, I don't plan to buy their stuff again.) read more

Sometimes they have ok deals but I have found that what is listed on the website (DBNY) is often misleading or plain wrong. I have bought several yarns that are thinner than listed on the site (i.e. listed as worsted but is actually DK, listed as bulky but actually worsted). I have gotten into the habit of double checking on Ravelry to make sure. I have also bought several yarns that are much brighter/lighter in color on the website, only to find out they are much much darker IRL. I even tried to photograph my yarn under a strong spot light to see if I could get the bright color shown on the website but I could not. Other than post processing my photo, there was no way I could get the light shades shown on the website picture. read more

I've experienced some of the same with DBNY - incomplete orders, incorrect descriptions, beat up yarn. Much of their yarn is from yarn stores that have gone out of business. However, there is no excuse for the ridiculous amount of time it takes for them to process an order. I used to order from them regularly, but their quality of service has been declining steadily. My last order took them 10 days to process before it was shipped on the 11th day. Given their questionable product and poor service, I've taken my business elsewhere. read more

I've shopped with this group for years. It's changed sadly to a less than worthwhile experience. Many, many of the items I've purchased aren't as they are represented in their listings. Their method of listing is confusing and consuming of customers' time. They refuse to communicate at all with customers ignoring emails totally. Their attitude indicates to me that they have forgotten that the customers are the real reason for their jobs. Their web site does not work well and once I tried to remove things from my cart, thought they were removed and no longer appeared to be in my cart, but I was billed for them anyway. They impress me as a cheap outfit running on a shoestring, but their prices usually don't reflect "cheap." If you choose something and put it into your cart, if someone else chooses it and pays for it before you check out, you will lose it. Their shipping rates are ridiculously high. A total mess dealing with these guys. They modified our order freely and sent us what we did not want. When trying to contact them, never reply or reply nonsense to avoid refunding what they took from us. I even opened a Paypal case against them and very clever since a lot of time passed nothing could be done. On your own risk there are much better option out there. I am still a satisfied customer in 2014. I just received another order from them - promptly and the quality is exactly as promised. What is important to me is whether a company keeps their promises and corrects their mistakes and this company does. I have ordered from the DBNY website 4 times and out of those 4 times, there has been a problem each and every time. The first time, one of the yarns I received was dusty and looked like it had been in a corner for a few months before they found it and listed it for sale on the website. The second time I ordered from them, they sent me an email a couple of days after I placed my order, telling me that they don't have all of the yarn that I ordered and that they were sending a partial amount. After I complained about it, they allowed me to cancel that part of the order. The third time that I ordered from them, one of the balls of yarn (it was yellow) had a line where someone was careless with a black marker and it went through at least 20 yards of the yarn so that part was wasted. You'd think that I'd learn my lesson, but when they had an angora yarn that I absolutely love for half price, I decided to take a fourth chance. Again, they had it listed and completed my checkout process and charged my credit card but then they sent me an email a couple of days later telling me that they don't have all the yarn that they sold me. I cancelled the entire order and unsubscribed from their email list right away. You can get good deals here, but it's not worth the aggravation and I hate playing roulette. read more

Customer service is an oxymoron here, flippant, arrogant, and condescending replies to any requests for order satisfaction. Yarn is no where near the represented colors and I understand hand dyed, done a lot of dying myself, but, the quality is not what is represented and as previous reviewer states, gauge is off. When I complained about it they just wrote me off with a snotty reply three times. Then, my computer went down after my order so I could not get my pattern download in time, requested three times for a resend and of course they said they sent it twice more. Ironically, I can get all their flippant replies, invoices, poor customer service emails but not my download email. I was going to take this pattern with me out of town, but Josh said their "webmaster" would get to it when he is available. Well then, I will order when I get around to it, or when available? I think not. Will not go back, will tell my crochet and knitting groups, approx 100 people. what my review is. A few of my friends and I wanted to try this company to see what their product was liket - unsatisfactory customer service, got plenty of that. Will not be back - and neither will my friends. Like others I received the same snotty customer service as others. I ordered yarn on Dec 23 no communication till Jan 1 and that stated my yarn wouldnt be delivered til Jan 11, 3 weeks to deliver yarn. I emailed customer service stating I probably wouldnt be buying yarn from them again and that they had poor customer service. Within 10 minutes i get a reply from them I think her name was Cheryl author and educator there. Never did I get an apology all I got was You do know we got hit with a snowstorm and power was out and 31 mile stretch of road closed. Well no ididnt know how bad it was I live in Albuquerque NM dont exactly go to the weather channel to look up Vermonts forecast. I would actually have been sympathetic if she started her email with I do apologize but we got hit with a very bad snowstorm but I never recieved that. This is not a good review. I ordered yarn and promptly received an email notice upon their mailing that the USPS had shipping label problems. Bottom line, I did not receive my package of almost $100 merchandise after a month. 3 complaints to USPS and inability to find package that was supposed to come to MD from VT but ended up in MN, than to MD and stuck at a bad postoffice. Supersock store refused a refund based on the fact that I did not request insurance on the shipping, except the website does not have an area offering insurance on Parcel post when checking out for shipping. Once you get to the final page, then there is a spot at the subtotal saying $.00 for insured shipping, which again is not offered at the shipping area. They refuse to be responsible for packages once they leave their company although they took my money for shipping responsibly. The website also has a notice contacting the USPS and not them if they are problems with your packages. What a poor way to do business, and I will not do business with them ever again. They deserve 0 stars. read more
