Definitely worth checking out as well. They bought Stowe Street Emporium from a sweet older couple several years back, and have done an amazing job maintaining its original homey charm, while reinventing it w/their unique brand of coolness, style and fun. A simple, polite redirection that the upstairs wasn't open to customers would have sufficed. Instead, the tone was sharp, public, and unnecessarily rude. We apologized and explained we hadn't seen the sign, but he reacted as though we were being dishonest, then proceeded to complain about us to another employee while we were still within earshot--all very awkward and unprofessional. I would strongly encourage the owners to reconsider how customers are approached, as it reflects poorly on an otherwise generic but pleasant shop. Perhaps looking like you've just enjoyed Vermont's outdoors isn't quite the right aesthetic to be treated kindly here. Thankfully, the hike--and The Alchemist--more than made up for it. That said, I wouldn't return to this store to purchase an Advil.

The employees were not welcoming at all and didn't even acknowledge customers that walked in. One of the employees seemed irritated and was not very pleasant when I asked a few questions. I understand everyone has bad days, but a simple hello and a friendly attitude can make a big difference when you're serving customers. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.
