I've personally been a patient in to newer facilities but looks aren't what you need especially when there is a post-hospital need with a goal to be fully functional upon returning home.

My brother went in for wound care and rehab after having his leg amputated. The 4th day he was there he finally got a shower and according to the CNA the shower room was filthy. His bandages got wet and they left the wet bandages on his leg because "they didn't have the bandages that he needed but they have been ordered and should be here Monday". My brother finally took the wet bandages off hisself because the pain was unbearable. So, long story short my brother is back in the hospital having more of his leg removed due to infection. This whole experience has been a 6 day nightmare I couldn't imagine having to stay there long term.

The last day she was in Heartland, she lay in feces which covered her incision, and was lying in sheets she tried to clean herself with, and the floor and her brief were also soiled for minutesfrom where she tried to make it to the bathroom. The sitter who came on duty at 7am had to go to the desk where her medical person was sitting , three times to ask her to please come attend to her. I hired sitters 24/7, but they would not allow sitters or family to stay with the patient at night. Their policy. They said they checked patients every two hours.Evidently staff on the exiting and arriving shifts had not checked on her as often as they should. The majority of staff were surly, displayed aggravation when asked anything, and made no attempt to introduce themselves or to try to be helpful. The person dispensing meds was talking on a personal phone call and did not answer a light or check on a man who was yelling for help for 20 minutes two rooms down from where she was standing. The valance and curtains were dusty, with dust flying over the room when the window air conditioner came on. The wheelchair she used had one broken leg and a broken brake. It had not been cleaned and had thick collections of grime on metal surfaces. A large styrofoam cup with ice water was given out each shift. No bedside pitcher and you had to ask for more water I cannot believe Medicare allows this place to take patients.

Worst place ever!!…read more The facility is dirty and in need of repairs. The overall smell is terrible. Residents are 3-4 to a room. Roommates are inconsiderate, often blaring the tv non-stop. Residents are often left in bed all day, in threadbare hospital gowns, even though they have their own clothing. The phone is rarely answered by the receptionist. If you're transferred to the nurses' station they don't answer, and you get a recorded message stating the mailbox is full. If you leave a voicemail for the activities director and you're lucky enough to get a return call, it's 2-3 days after the activity you're inquiring about. The residents clothes that aren't lost or stolen are ruined by those in charge of doing laundry. The parking spots closest to the facility are limited and always taken up by the employees.
