We played the course on 8/10/25. The greens and tee boxes are in terrible shape. The grass was so high in the fairways, that we could not find our golf balls. We spent more time looking for our golf balls, than we did actually playing. Hitting out of the bunkers was easier than hitting in the fairways! Other people we encountered were having the same issues. The carts we had would barely run. Parts of the seats were missing and the brakes were sticking. We had lunch in the restaurant and the food was good. The staff were all very friendly and nice. The water hazards make the course somewhat challenging, which I prefer! read more

Every week this fall playing here cause it's close. Every week I ask them to clean the women's restroom. It never gets clean. It's the same stuff on the floors, mirrors, and toilets. read more

I only played this course once and have no idea if this issue was resolved. I reserved and paid for my round in advance through the Golf Now app. I arrived well ahead of my scheduled tee time. I was warned in advance that all of the greens had some fungus and the greens keeper was going to treat. However, if during my round , if I found the greens unplayable, they would refund me. Just the heads up of these poor conditions was commendable and appreciated. That being said, it is my opinion that should this isn't repaired, they should offer discounted prices. So yes, the greens do need work. The fairways are in decent shape as are most of the tee boxes. It will interesting to see how this course plays when the fungus issue is cleared up. As is, this course is ok to get in some practice. Especially in the short game aspect. They have a small practice putting green and a driving range. Three stars is generous. read more

This course, when cared for, can be very nice. Has some very challenging holes. Played today (7/18/24) and I was shocked how bad it has become in 1 month. The greens are becoming unusable. I know we've had some very hot days but I've played other courses in the area and they are in FAR better shape. Their carts (gas) are in bad shape and it's not surprising. The cart paths are in terrible shape, full of potholes. To make it worse, MOSQUITOS!! They could carry small children away. Really such a shame. This could be the class of the Hampton Roads area. read more

Challenging but well maintained GC, friendly staff and a nice restaurant inside. My 2 biggest issues is the greens are super slow, and the locals like to use the fairways as there backyards and the cart paths as walking trails, not really much they can do about the locals problem it seems like. read more

Fun quick course in Chesapeake. The greens were a little hard but playable, houses lined a majority of the course and the fairways and bunkers were well maintained. There were three golfers infront of us that had no golf etiquette, ended up having to jump a hole past them as they were on at least a 4 hour pace, and taking multiple hits off the tee box. Interacted with another golfer after and he was just as Unfriendly. The staff was super friendly and the prices were affordable, definitely adding this gem into my regular golf rotation. read more

No complaints about the course conditions. However, it took us 6 hours to play 18 here, not the advertised 4:20. This was because they played a tournament that morning, and rather than push everyone's tee time back, they scrunched them up so they were roughly 5 minutes apart. We waited 10-20 minutes on every single tee box to tee off. Then, somehow, after spending the vast majority of our time waiting and waiting at every single tee box, the ranger came up to us on hole 4 and asked us to pick up the pace (?) We were absolutely stupefied as we had been playing relatively quickly and were always waiting for 2 groups at every box. We explained this to the man and he was impolite. We will not be returning here and had half a mind to ask for our money back. read more

We had a Christmas company party here last night. The location was great. There were plenty of parking spaces. The venue itself was beautifully decorated for Christmas. They had a lovely entrance area. I also noticed they had a bridal room for brides to get ready before their wedding ceremony. They have a grand ballroom with a small bar area attached and a small buffet area to serve food. The servers were very attentive. The food was okay. (I'll review on the caterers on their yelp page). First, the pros: 1. The fairways were in good shape, and the greens were in excellent condition. I've honestly never seen greens in this good of shape at a public course. 2. Drainage did not seem to be an issue. There had been a few days of rain, on and off, in the days before we played but the course was in fine shape with regard to standing water. The bunkers were as good as any other public course in the area and were not flooded, despite the rain. The cons: 1. No range balls available. The pro shop made several calls to the range for someone to refill the ball dispenser, but none were available in the 45 minutes I waited for my tee-time. 2. no starter on a Saturday morning. People just drove up to the first tee and started. We arrived at our tee time early and still waited 15 minutes past because of the three groups on the tee in front of us. There were at least three groups behind us waiting for their turn. There needs to be a starter, especially on Saturday mornings, to keep traffic flowing and maintaining order. 3. The course felt very crowded by the houses that surround almost every hole, and while the greens were in excellent shape, they were the smallest greens I've ever played. The course layout is somewhat confusing; the turn is at 12 instead of after 9, and a couple of holes turn back on themselves in a weird way that's hard to explain. 4. They seemed surprised at the turn when my group came in to get hot dogs and drinks for the back. At least surprise would explain why it took so long. read more

My son goes to golf camp here every year. The staff is great, it's reasonably priced, and my kids have fun. Love it.

Place is a goat track and poorly run. Paid for 18 holes and came in after 9 for a rain check. There was a large storm moving in, the winds picked up and it was starting to spit rain. We looked at the radar and decided we didn't want to get stuck in it. When I asked the pro shop attendant he tossed his hands in the air sarcastically and said "IS IT RAINING?!?" I started laughing thinking he was joking and said yea it's starting to sprinkle and not looking good out there. He stated "I still have a bunch of guys out there, I can't give you a rain check unless it's raining!" I worked at golf courses for 4 years. We never questioned someone who asked for a rain check for an impending storm or really any other reason. It brings back golfers and business to your course. Won't be coming back, Thanks! read more

I only give reviews to warn people of places to avoid. The course itself is ok, but after watching 3 groups leave after making to whole 14 in 4 hours, that tells me there's some management issues. Staff doesn't seem too concerned either so I wanted to at least warn people. If you've got 6.5 hours to play an average close it's nice if you can catch a GolfNow deal for $20. read more

Had a wonderful round with my 13 year old son. Greens and fairways were in very good condition. Water hazards on various holes made the round a bit more challenging with club selection which we enjoyed. Pace of play was very good. We were done in 3 1/2 hours with a threesome and foursome in front of us. Would recommend. read more

I had the opportunity to play at Chesapeake Golf Club yesterday in the 1st Annual Johnny D. "It's All About The Kids" Classic. It's been several years since I've been to the golf course and have always remembered the place as being oddly placed in a neighborhood. I was always afraid of coming back because a stray golf shot could cost me hundreds of dollars. After yesterday the place doesn't seem so bad after all. It's a nice golf course with some challenging holes in the Las Gaviatos neighborhood. You'll find many pretty holes and some surprising undulation in the greens. This course does have many additional features: catering, a bar and grill, room rentals for banquets and I do remember people holding wedding receptions at the clubhouse. They do have a pool that is open during the summer. A few minor changes and this facility can turn from just a golf course to a nice neighborhood hangout. Part of my golf membership at Cypress Point does give me the privilege to play at CGC and I certainly would like to take advantage of it if the right cards were dealt. One boo boo though. They did get rid of their driving range a few years back. Their landing area isn't real deep so some buildings are in the shooting range. A small investment in some 80 to 100 foot nets could easily fix this issue and bring in more value instead of riding up the street to practice at a competitor's range. The golf course does have a good amount of water on the course and as such drains rather well. We had some heavy rain lately and the course didn't seem so muddy like a few others I hate to play after a sprinkle. read more

Enjoyed the annual breakfast for Veterans for the Mayor. The location is very nice and beautiful surroundings. I do suggest a nice spring cleaning on the banquet area. There were tons of cobwebs just handing from the chandeliers over the tables and lots of dust!!! It could use some updating to attract new clients for events. The staff was very friendly. read more

First time playing on this course and I was very please with the difficulty of the course since I'm just a weekend golfer. The course is in very good shape for this time of year. The value for an 18 hole on a Saturday morning is great compare to the course down the street which is in similar shape but it a harder course. All the practice stations a available right before the 1st hole which is great. Plan on playing here more often since it so easy to get to now with the new Route 17 Bridge. I absolutely love this course. I am a Chesapeake resident, so maybe I am a little biased because it's the "home field", but it is such a fun course. Rates are not high, they are willing to work to get everyone out on the course for a round, and the layout is beautiful. There are easy holes as well as a few challenges with water. Overall, golfers of all skill levels can play this course from one of the four sets of tees and have a good time. Challenging, but not extremely difficult. Chesapeake Golf Club is a nice neighborhood course nestled in Los Gaviotos I like to play with many challenging holes. There are 7 holes with water carries so ball striking and/or course management a must. With several long 4 pars (400 from the tips) it's not a light weigh course. The more I play it, the better I like it! Could use a little grounds keeping work around the greens where a few of my errant approach shot balls wind up is my only recommendation. But, hey I hit it there. I like the practice facilities also. read more

This is one of my favorite courses in the Hampton Roads area. The course is always well maintained, even in the dead of winter the greens and fairways are always in great shape. You have everything from from easy wide open fairways to challenging dogleg holes. There is no lack of water but if you don't get greedy it's usually not an issue. You also can't beat the price. Staff is great and they have the best chili dogs around. Nice little hidden gem. read more

It has been many years since I last played this course, I forgot how challenging some of the holes were. The course is not long nor difficult and plays well for the average golfer. The pace of play is what you would expect from a neighborhood course. Overall good course to work on shots you don't normally have to take playing courses at a different price point. read more
