I just saw for a second time the brutal murder of the Petit Family. I worked law enforcement and…read moreit's easy to blame all the members of the police department that were working that day but there was a specific order by the Chief of Police to NOT enter the home until he got there, a huge mistake by a micro managing police chief and by not allowing those officers on scene to make a determination to enter the residence of the victims, this could have had a much happier ending. We don't know what the officers on scene would have done, because of that police chiefs order, but just being on scene they could assess the situation better than the chief who was on the way to the crime scene. There was no reason to wait for the police chief when you have Sergeants and Lieutenants, that are subordinates to make that call. Cleary that delay prevented us from ever knowing what the outcome would have been if the order wasn't given and you had a team of officers brave enough to kick in the front door and possibly save that beautiful family. As it turned out the two suspects weren't even armed with guns and an entry could have easily resulted in an arrest and that beautiful family saved. But because the Chief gave an order that lost precious time during which these 3 beautiful women were killed and the house set on fire, we will never know. If the police had the house surrounded, how were the suspects even allowed to enter a vehicle in the driveway and almost get away, only ending after the family vehicle that they stole became disabled after crashing into several police cars. Then during a police press conference afterwards the Chief attempted to lie about the time line saying that the house was fully engulfed in flames when the first officers arrived, which was far from the truth and an attempt to save the chief from his awful decision making. These criminals set the fire only after they saw the police surrounding the home and again if the police were allowed to enter the home, the murders of these three beautiful woman probably would have been prevented and the unarmed suspects taken into custody. Its just a shame and to be honest, this tragedy falls squarely on the police chief who made that terrible decision to stand down and wait for him to arrive. He will have to look at himself in the mirror for the rest of his life. I sure hope he retired or was force out after this tragic incident.

Or in other words, he saw value in unifying the country through singular coded spelling choices, including ditching some British spellings. This suggestion for "tung" never caught on though. It's not a big house, but they do provide a video background and an iPad introduction where in each room you can play audio on the family, the room, and other background information. Since we were the only ones there, playing the audio was great. If a bunch of people were there, individual audio could get annoying. But there was a lot of good information to play as much or as little as needed. There's a small gift shop, and the whole thing should take about an hour. It's a neat little historical site for someone of whom we have all read their work.

Of course Noah Webster is most well-known for publishing his dictionary, but he also created the "Blue-Backed Speller," which taught generations of children how to spell and read, and played an integral role in advocating for copyright reform. Here's the scoop on this interesting little museum in West Hartford: The museum is open Monday-Sat, 1-4PM. Adult admission is $14. The museum is actually the location of Webster's childhood home. Parking is available on site. Once inside, you will receive an iPad, which will guide you through each room in the house. You can also use your smartphone to scan a QR code and download the tablet tour on your phone. There is a short 15-minute film about Webster's life that you can watch prior to starting the self-guided tour. You can then use the iPad to navigate your way from room-to-room, and the iPad includes an audio narration about the room, what it was used for, etc. Photography/video is allowed. After finishing the tour of the house, there is an educational/demonstration room that you can visit where staff give various presentations on different topics. The day I went, a staff member was demonstrating how the Webster family used to card and spin wool. It was pretty cool! These demonstrations are part of the museum's "Life on the Webster Farm: Work Days" educational series, and are generally the second or third Saturday of each month (visit their website for the full list of dates). Before leaving, you can check out the gift shop which has Noah Webster and West Hartford souvenirs and memorabilia. After I finished at the museum, I took the short drive to Blue Back Square, which I learned was named after Webster's "Blue-Backed Speller." There you'll find a statute of Webster in front of the West Hartford Public Library, as well as the "Webster Walk" with various murals and artwork. Overall, a very educational experience about one of our nation's Founding Fathers!

The section covering the Ah-beetz factions and the background about the Amistad history was fascinating and humbling. Even the little bookstore had something for everyone. I was very impressed by the architecture of this building. It's design and décor were interesting and unique compared to the other standard Capitol buildings design that I have seen elsewhere within the continental U.S. This Capitol Building is adjacent to Bushnell Memorial Park and Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch. It has a beautiful gold leaf dome and its façade is made of New England marble and granite. From my online research on this building, I came to learn that this building's architecture is of Second Empire & Renaissance Revival kind on the outside and High Victorian Gothic on the inside. The weather on the day of my visit was not good, so my photos may not necessarily reflect how impressive this building looks (I haven't edited them) but I bet on a beautiful sunny day, the photos would make this Capitol building look even more wonderful. This is definitely a place to visit for sightseeing activities when in Hartford.

We had just missed the guided tour, but sometimes I like to wander on my own anyhow. The senate and house meeting rooms were both quite lovely. I loved the antique water dispenser, which was just beautifully crafted. I learned that this was for the horses. You filled your bucket and took it outside for them. The carvings and statues were very opulent and ornate. There was one that was labeled to be one of the oldest, preserved from the Cival War. It is so fun to compare and contrast various state capitols buildings. They all have an interesting history and a unique flair of their very own.

It is well preserved and a focal point for many gatherings and interesting functions. Tonight I had the pleasure of enjoying a performance by the Hamden Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble of more than 60 volunteer musicians in the Greater New Haven area. This ensemble is in it's 56th year. The concert was impressive and right in my backyard. I'm looking forward to their next performance on April 29, 2018 at 3:00.

I called for service, that ph call was ok and they answered my questions, i should have noticed that the dry responses were a clear indication of unprofessionalism, yet I still contracted them to do the job. When the job was done because the recipient advise me of it ( not the Marshall) I called 3 days later for a receipt, I was practically chewed off the phone for asking for one. No exaggeration!!! When I asked the person for their name, You would think i asked him for a favor another tongue lashing. Ughh!!! How are you in business? I don't know!! Sad to say I went with this company. It honors the law enforcement and public safety champions of the canine persuasion that have served our state for 80 years. According to the State Police website, they train four types of dogs -Patrol (a multipurpose category that includes tracking, apprehension, protection, and evidence recovery), Bloodhounds (for specialized and difficult tracking), Search and Rescue (to locate any live or deceased human scent in large search zones), and Detection dogs (think narcotics, accelerants, explosives and even electronic storage devices). The Connecticut State Police Canine program is renowned across the country and internationally. Police dogs from around the world are trained here (Greece, Egypt, and Cyprus to name a few). Training programs by the US State Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were modeled after the one designed by the CT State Police. The monument features likenesses of the three dog breeds used by the State Police, Labradors, German shepherds and bloodhounds. The monument's inscription reads: "Dedicated to past, present, and future canines of the Connecticut State Police. Their loyalty, courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten".
