Nice place to walk around. I never have an issue finding parking. I like checking out all of the large cowboy boots that are painted in different ways.

Visiting from California and this place felt like it was stuck in time. What a beautiful little area. A few stores we wanted to check out was closed on a Saturday. We visited the farmers market and bought some bread and pretzels.

This historic plaza is an awesome place to visit because it is easy to get to in Cheyenne, and this is the location where there are painted boots at. Well-known gathering place & open-air venue for local music performances & farmers' markets. Home to a visitor center and restaurant, the Depot also features the Cheyenne Depot Museum, rich with railroad history, exhibits and interactive displays. We paid a visit to the Cheyenne Depot Plaza on June 30th 2021 on one of the most hottest days of the year! This plaza has some wildly gorgeous horse statues and of course: the boots! The Cheyenne Depot Museum is a railroad museum in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It is located inside the historic Union Pacific Railroad depot, built in the 1880s. The depot, a National Historic Landmark, was the railroad's largest station west of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a major western example of Richardsonian Romanesque architecture. The museum, founded in 1993, interprets Cheyenne's early history and that of the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad. It hosts an annual Steam Train Excursion in July, and Depot Days, in which tours are offered of other railroad facilities. My favorite stop in the entire trip!! So enriched with history and beauty.

Interesting open space that fronts what was probably the passenger terminal for the Union Pacific railroad here in Cheyenne. It's a neat plaza with lots of space for community events and it looks like fun. I don't know about transients - on this warm weekday evening, it was only me and two couples (neither looked "transient") holding hands. There's street parking and a small lot. Enjoy the painted cowboy boots!

I love to visit State Capitol buildings, and have been to nearly 2/3rds of all 50 state capitols…read more This one allowed you to take a self guided tour with a map of each floor to help you understand where you can go and what to see. The ground has several sculptures around the outside, with one large cowboy riding a bucking bronco representing the spirit of Wyoming. The building had quite a bit of wood accents throughout and I really liked the restoration outcome with the wonderful stained glass ceilings in the senate and house chambers as well as the rotunda. There have been several restorations and there was a plaque for each displayed throughout the building. They also had a fun Hall of History where you enter through an old safe's door to get into a set of rooms with TV's and videos that can be played that tell the story of the capitol and the area around Cheyenne. It was definitely worth the visit, and I would recommend the stop to family and friends.

Beautiful Building, Welcoming Staff, History and Present and Future…read more - - - - - - - - June, 2026 Visit We visited Cheyenne in 2019 and saw the beautiful building from the outside. This 2026 trip we were able to visit the inside. We saw both legislative branches - the House and the Senate, and the original Supreme Court, where women's right to vote was first guaranteed. The Governor's office is also in the building, thought you are not allowed to enter unless you have an appointment. You'll learn that from the guard at the door, and if you're fortunate like we were, the guard will share much with you about Wyoming and the Capitol Building. I really with I remembered his/your name, Officer... thank you for being so welcoming and for sharing all you shared... how the floor tiles are from Tennessee and Vermont, the wood largely from Michigan; how one of the bannisters is intentionally upside-down, and one spot in the ceiling stained glass is intentionally inaccurate, to reflect the imperfection in us all; history of the state's governors, including the first ever US female governor, and more. There are many historical items, including some items and videos in a room that has a huge safe door for entry. Definitely worth visiting! Just realized... this is the first state capitol we have visited twice! ----- ----- -----
