I love to visit State Capitol buildings, and have been to nearly 2/3rds of all 50 state capitols. This one allowed you to take a self guided tour with a map of each floor to help you understand where you can go and what to see. The ground has several sculptures around the outside, with one large cowboy riding a bucking bronco representing the spirit of Wyoming. The building had quite a bit of wood accents throughout and I really liked the restoration outcome with the wonderful stained glass ceilings in the senate and house chambers as well as the rotunda. There have been several restorations and there was a plaque for each displayed throughout the building. They also had a fun Hall of History where you enter through an old safe's door to get into a set of rooms with TV's and videos that can be played that tell the story of the capitol and the area around Cheyenne. It was definitely worth the visit, and I would recommend the stop to family and friends. read more

Beautiful Building, Welcoming Staff, History and Present and Future - - - - - - - - June, 2026 Visit We visited Cheyenne in 2019 and saw the beautiful building from the outside. This 2026 trip we were able to visit the inside. We saw both legislative branches - the House and the Senate, and the original Supreme Court, where women's right to vote was first guaranteed. The Governor's office is also in the building, thought you are not allowed to enter unless you have an appointment. You'll learn that from the guard at the door, and if you're fortunate like we were, the guard will share much with you about Wyoming and the Capitol Building. I really with I remembered his/your name, Officer... thank you for being so welcoming and for sharing all you shared... how the floor tiles are from Tennessee and Vermont, the wood largely from Michigan; how one of the bannisters is intentionally upside-down, and one spot in the ceiling stained glass is intentionally inaccurate, to reflect the imperfection in us all; history of the state's governors, including the first ever US female governor, and more. There are many historical items, including some items and videos in a room that has a huge safe door for entry. Definitely worth visiting! No tickets needed for this free tour! I was amazed at the access we were granted at this beautiful historic facility! A friendly staff member will greet you upon entering and let you know all the points of interest for the tour. I loved the building and being able to tour around with my family members. The rich history can be seen in the decor and will make you feel proud of Wyoming. Wow, if walls could talk! We should get involved in government even if it is just taking a tour to see what our tax dollars are funding. read more

Pretty cool to visit. It's where Wyoming became the first state to grant women the right to vote, earning its "Equality State" nickname. The building just got a massive $300 million dollar renovation that was completed back in 2019. Now the restored marble, stained glass ceilings, and a real gold-leaf dome gleam no matter where you stand. read more

Loved this experience. Wife brought me into Cheyenne from fort Collins while visiting family. Got to check another state off my list and as we were driving in saw this amazing building. Stopped to take pictures and found out you could do a self-guided tour. The lady at the information desk was super helpful, absolutely wonderful, and a beacon of sunshine she and her just to go in to the offices that weren't in use and see the courts and where the representatives meet and all of it was absolutely amazing. To know that it had recently been restored and they had just opened a new exhibit for people on the bottom floor the week before made it feel really special. I loved the statues that they had around the rotunda and all the stained glass as well as the pictures in the corners of each of the large rooms representing the history of Wyoming. Best of all this is free It cost nothing and you learn a lot of history including seeing all the previous governors from their portraits hung on the walls. read more

Tip: It tends to be very quiet here, so you'll probably feel like you have the whole place to yourself All things considered, I wouldn't suggest going out of your way to pay this place a visit. The Wyoming State Capital isn't the grandest nor the most beautiful I've seen, but it does have its areas of charm. You would think that the interior would be just as exquisite as the exterior, but the designers missed the mark in quite a few areas. The overall layout is wonky and pretty enclosed on the upper levels, especially if you use a walker or wheelchair. As far as the private rooms and galleries go, those were each unique and interesting to browse through. Worth a stop to see what the capital is like. And it's located in a very beautiful area with lots of shopping and restaurants to spend a day on the town! read more

I loved the vibe of this capitol building, it's not as big as other states but it's beautiful. I loved the buffalo and cowboy statues around the complex. It's so quiet, as most of Cheyenne, so you feel like you have it all to yourself. I'm glad I got to see it. read more

On our journeys we love to visit state Capitols, and this one is a newly remodeled beauty. After taking pictures of the lovely exterior and statues, we went inside to be warmly greeted by the re epitome ship. He explained a bit about the building g and told us about the self directed tour. Inside was just as lovely with stained glass, statues, and beautiful paintings and word work. Nice little capital building to visit if you're in town...and its free! I strolled in early Monday afternoon and the place was very quiet. Sessions were all done, so I was able to visit all the chambers on my own, as I was the only tourist around. The rooms and architecture were nicely ornate and opulent without being too pretentious. I was honestly surprised how little security there was and I was free to roam just about anywhere...fun! For a state population of 580,000, having 30 state senators and 60 house representatives seems like an awful lot, but what do I know? read more

Gorgeous Capitol renovations done here in 2019 I believe. It's smaller than other Capitol buildings I've been to. There is street parking. It was very quiet when I toured and I was able to walk right in and grab info on a self guided tour. I almost walked right in to the Governor's office to ask a question but I saw a sheriff nearby and he was able to kindly answer my question. Everything is beautifully presented with perfect lighting in the building. The "Four Sisters" statues are so elegantly designed. I really enjoyed reading the renovation background in the pamphlets that are provided. I think if you're into architecture and historical information, you may enjoy visiting. I did. read more

An absolutely wonderful renovation job here, one of the nicest state capitol buildings and complexes that I've ever seen. Tons of great stuff here, but my favorite is the redone safes in the basement that you have to go and seek out and see. Lots of opportunity to see the history there. read more

3 minutes from my favorite Cheyenne Depot Museum, the Wyoming State Capitol Building stands on Carey Ave and W 24th St! We visited this beautiful landmark on June 30th of this year! It was an incredibly hot, hot, hot day and we absolutely soaked up all the scenery from the museums to this building. excellent place with a lot of history, remodel and restoration. Really attractive capitol building complex. The Wyoming State Capitol Building is a beautiful architectural site to see and tour anytime of the year. As I was told when I went on a tour to the Wyoming State Capitol building that each capitol building in all of the states have their own uniqueness to them. Some differences are obvious. You drive by some capitol building and immediately you notice a difference. The capitol building in of Nebraska, located in Lincoln, has an Expressionistic look. The capitol in Carson City, Nevada is very small and has plant life in the front of it that is unique to all of the state's counties alone. Other differences are more subtle. One thing that stands out about this capitol is that in a certain area in the building there are fossils incorporated into the stone floor. Very appropriate for Wyoming since one of it's huge industries is fossil fuels. This capitol building was the only one that I extensively toured and know much about. It is very interesting to see the different rooms where government sessions are held... where people make decisions for and about you! read more

As far as capitol buildings this one isnt too impressive but its still a very nice building. The stained glass art work inside gives the building a lot of character. The house and senate chambers were emptied out so not much to see in there but was nice to see the air work in rooms. The governor's office was on the first floor and it easy for the public to access it. The door was open so i just walked right in. He wasn't there but the secretary was. The statues around the building sort of captured the essence of the state itself. read more

I visited this place on a trip to Cheyenne last spring and was pretty impressed. I love architecture and design, and having visited the state capitol building in Atlanta, was pleased to notice plenty of differences between the two. This building is chock full of rich wood, ornate moldings, and beautiful stained glass. I was able to explore most of the assembly rooms, and each was grand and ornate. The walls are adorned with artwork and there's even a huge stuffed bison tucked away in a corner. Overall, just a laid-back, free way to kill some time in Cheyenne. read more
