This 2026 trip we were able to visit the inside. We saw both legislative branches - the House and the Senate, and the original Supreme Court, where women's right to vote was first guaranteed. The Governor's office is also in the building, thought you are not allowed to enter unless you have an appointment. You'll learn that from the guard at the door, and if you're fortunate like we were, the guard will share much with you about Wyoming and the Capitol Building. I really with I remembered his/your name, Officer... thank you for being so welcoming and for sharing all you shared... how the floor tiles are from Tennessee and Vermont, the wood largely from Michigan; how one of the bannisters is intentionally upside-down, and one spot in the ceiling stained glass is intentionally inaccurate, to reflect the imperfection in us all; history of the state's governors, including the first ever US female governor, and more. There are many historical items, including some items and videos in a room that has a huge safe door for entry. Definitely worth visiting! The staff is super friendly and will give you information on the mansion. You are allowed to walk the interior and do a self guided tour and take photos. I love the retro furniture and learning the history of the area and people that have served Wyoming and lived in the home. A few pictures are being uploaded to peak your curiosity but I don't want to give away too much. Go for a tour and take some photos of your own!

Interesting tour of the house where the Wyoming Governors used to live. It was restored to its…read moreformer glory from the 1900s to the 1960s. Free to the public, you should really consider making a small donation if you visit. The tour is self-guided and we had the place to ourselves. Every room was well appointed with period furniture-- well it was a Governors house after all. The laundry room was interesting, as was the fallout shelter, for those of us who lived through the 60s. I'm glad we had a chance to visit and "see how some politicians might have lived".

We were still able to see multiple boots and some sculptures. There is a wide variety in the types of art on display and I always appreciate that because then no matter who you are, you will be able to find something to appreciate. We also made sure to visit the Cheyenne sign just next to the plaza. The train museum didn't seem to be open when we were there, otherwise we would have visited that as well. All in all, this is a very nice space and I imagine it is great for gatherings and faires or just as a spot for people to enjoy the city.

We were driving north on I-25 and I noticed the location on google maps, just south of Wyoming on the east side of I-25. I was looking for a little diversion so we took the frontage road drive off the highway to check it out. It gave us an opportunity to google and read up on the historical battle (?) that took place here. It's neat to see the terrain and imagine all those years ago as people tried to navigate their lives and this land. The rock formations are certainly pretty cool to look at. After reading about what happened there, I was surprised at the lack of space in this "natural fort". I'm glad we saw it and read about it. I wish we could have continued on north on the frontage road to get back on I-25 but google maps told us to do a 180 & drive south the way we came from to get back on the highway.

There are several formations but only a couple are accessible from the dirt road that leads to it. The remaining are beyond a fence on private property. It's unfortunate that the locals have let this site go to waste along with letting kids ruin it with spray paint and garbage.

There really aren't many trees in southeastern Wyoming so this one is really interesting. "Discovered" by the Union Pacific rail workers when the tracks were laid through here in 1867, they actually moved the line sideways to avoid it. The railroad was eventually moved south, and the old road bed past Tree in the Rock was used as a wagon trail, then as the Lincoln Highway, and now as Interstate 80. The freeway splits around the tree, which has its own little parking area in the median and a spiky fence to protect it. It's called simply "Tree Rock" by its unromantic modern sign, which notes that "Limber Pines can live as long as 2000 years." It's a quick stop that will take you less than five minutes to explore. The lovely ladies that guide you room by room through the house know the history and have great stories to tell. The architecture of the house is very interesting and the fact that the original details and furnishings are still there is incredible.

I went with a friend to visit Avery House earlier this week. We initially assumed it was going to…read morebe a short interlude in between other Fort Collins attractions, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trips! The house itself is stunning; having been beautifully restored to Victorian splendour, it's charmingly reflective of the way its former residents would have lived. But it's the docents who are the real stars here - they're a group of incredibly passionate, lovely people who take every group of visitors around to introduce them personally to both Avery House, and the history of Fort Collins as a city. We especially enjoyed being able to explore and ask questions about all the small details in the house, from the furnishings to the lifestyles and stories behind every item. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone living in, visiting or passing through Fort Collins for how it lets you take a great look at one of the most interesting portions of the city's past.

Driving from Fort Collins to Rapid City, my family was fortunate to add this Oregon Trail stop on…read morethe way. The park rangers at this monument are awesome and truly care about its history. If you can add this in with your travels, you won't be upset. I wouldn't go way out of my way to visit, but if you can add it to your itinerary with a less than annoying drive deviation, it is fantastic. Side note, it was raining the day I went. I drove up to the top but couldn't see the view due to the weather. But, I could tell, on a nice day, it would be amazing. Lots of history here. Enjoy!

Call Your Bluff…read more Protected National Monument site that's over 3k-acres and is situated west of Gering, Nebraska. We visited here almost eight years ago on our epic road trip across the US, and I can't believe I forgot to review this place. The Good: *The bluff is an important landmark on the Oregon Trail and there's an Oregon Trail Museum at the base of the bluff. *There's a windy 1.6-mile drive up the Summit Rd to get to the top of Scotts Bluff. There were quite a few cars (the park draws in 100k visitors a year) in front of us, if I remember correctly. But I don't think it took that long to get to the top, because even if it did there some superb views along the way up. *Leashed pets are OK on trails *Free! The Meh: *Only four miles of hikable trails The Ugly: *I wish we had more time to explore and hike the trails, but we had a schedule to keep. Next time, Gadget! Conclusion: Great park that's worth a 1hr detour if you're headed along on this stretch of 80.
