My experience is a little different. We just had a wedding and rented the pavilion and the amphitheater. The price was exceptionally good and the areas were incredibly maintained. The facilities were so clean and well maintained. Since we had these spots all day, we had a hike in the morning for people attending the wedding as well as the actual wedding in the evening. Most of our guests explored the facilities and hiked most of the morning. I know many of them will return soon because it was great. The amphitheater had electrical connection on the center circle. We didn't need it because the acoustics of the amphitheater were amazing. We had a harpist and the music carried beautifully. Their voices were clearly heard throughout the amphitheater. Our rainy day plan was the pavillion, which is lovely and amazingly well planned. This is a gorgeous place for a wedding. I can't believe I didn't mention the staff. They were so communicative and helpful. They were such a joy. read more

We love this state park! It's a hidden gem that's so close to home. There are plenty of trails that loop together that offer a variety of difficulty. We moved to the Springs from Denver a few months ago and we love how quiet this park is compared to other trails near Denver. This park is also very clean! As someone who doesn't like using public restrooms I thought these bathrooms were so clean. We enjoy that the park has plenty of parking, one of the parking lots even has a playground, and a pump for your bike tires. There's also picnic tables which we really enjoy using after our hike. We haven't camped here or mountain biked but that is an option too. Some hikes are easy enough for you to bring your kids, and others offer more of an incline. In the summer you see birds, butterflies, and lizards. This place is great, we really enjoy it! read more

On vacation, we stopped into this park to try out several hikes. The welcome center was very nice, with good experiences and helpfulness from the Rangers. we did two hikes in the park on the same day and we enjoyed both of them. The hiking trails are well marked and also have nice explanatory markers throughout. They also have camping which we are not utilizing, but it seemed pretty full. We would definitely come back in the future. read more

I absolutely love the trails in this state park. Every trail is marked so well and has a map at the beginning/end of the trail so you can decide if you want to add more time or start heading back to the parking lot. Only a few trails in the park are dog friendly and they have some equestrian friendly trails available as well. They have beginner friendly trails and some harder trails as well. Just went here and did some hiking. Smooth sandy packed trails and easy terrain. The trail is a bit more In the woods, so you come across a few vistas but most of the time you can't see as you're not on top of a hill. The trails are clearly marked, which is nice. They also periodically have markers with your location. Like most places, you have shorter and longer connecting trails, so you can make it what you want. We saw only birds, no other wildlife. read more

A great spot for one of my first state park hikes! The visitor center was open and staffed. No bathroom available in this building at the moment, but the staff and the maps will point you to one a short drive away. The staff was very helpful as we were trying to plan our route. Not too long, but not too short. Her guidance was very valuable. We easily found "Camper Services" which was a great spot for us to start from that day and we felt pretty comfortable parking our car there. There are bathrooms available right there and they were so clean! I was thoroughly impressed. You can also shower for four minutes for $1. We weren't camping so we didn't need a shower, but it was good to know for future information. These trails are very well marked. There was one exception near the end of our journey when we ended up at a road with no trail in sight and eventually found the marker behind a large garbage gondola that was fenced in across the street and down the way a little bit. The map coincides perfectly with the trails we were on as well. That made for a very nice morning. We saw some of the campsites and they were spaced out nicely with plenty of room to setup. We noticed the platforms that we think were for those who may be tent camping, but want to stay off the actual ground. Overall, it's beautiful here definitely a spot I would visit again. read more

The park is well cared for. I have stayed at the cabins 3 times. They are well equipped, comfortable, and a great choice for shoulder season camping. My one complaint is they haven't always been thoroughly cleaned. One time a stained mattress cover and party balloons were present, another had a less than clean bathroom sink, no premade icecubes, and overall stink like BO or animal. It won't stop me coming back but it definitely makes a difference in the stay. read more

My favorite state park in Colorado. Rest room facilities are always clean and not crowded. Ample parking available and the office/ welcome center includes even nicer facilities. Maps of the well marked trails are available. During Covid-19 the welcome center was temporarily closed. Trail traffic during this pandemic is heavier but people are good at practicing social distancing. read more

This review is for the staff and facilities of the Nature Center as I have not yet had the chance to hike any of the trails. Came to the nature center for a lecture. Before hand we had been advised that parking needed to be validated with a daily park pass. I got to the gate house right as the clerk was closing the till, so I proceeded to the automated parking meter to get my ticket. The ticketing machine was new to me so it took me a while to figure it out. A plate number must be input so I had to cross the street to verify it as I don't remember it by heart. The clerk saw me and very kindly came to tell me that because I had a vehicle with disabled vet plates I did not need to pay for parking. That was super sweet of her as I was not aware. The nature center is brand new, offers clean restrooms and a wide array of gift shop items, as well as providing a ton of information regarding trails and local wildlife. The park has a group of volunteers that also organizes hikes on a regular basis leading off from the center and hiking all the way up to Mount Cheyenne summit. Just a wonderful establishment with friendly staff and a great start off point for hikes or to learn more about this area and its ecosystem. read more

Simply Beautiful! This place is awesome for hiking with tons of marked trails. They just recently opened a new trail to (17 Miles), though that one isn't as well marked as the others though sounds like it is a work in progress. Lovely views from all sorts of spots. We went at Sunrise and it was lovely, we didn't see anyone on the trail till about the last mile or so. We ended up getting a year access pass which was pretty reasonable, and grants us access to other State Parks as well. We have been a couple of times now, and planing for many more trips. They have access for tent camping & trailer camping, so if you are down for that this place is perfect. read more

This is a camping spot with a great view of the cityscape. It's not exactly what I'd call the most natural of parks- lots of concrete and walkways that claim to be trails. We visited on memorial day so the camp ground was full which was to be expected. The fire pit was giant and each site has a picnic table. That being said, it was $40 to camp there which didnt really seem worth it to me. read more

I crashed here with my dad and step mom in their RV at the campsites. RVs of course are the utmost luxury of camping but this was definitely not the time of year to be camping without heat. I stayed through New Years Day and did a group hiking gathering on the first day of the year which was beautiful. The nights were quiet and clear skies full of stars. Though I didn't need to use any of the facilities they were VERY clean and the park in general well taken care of. Staff was super friendly and helpful. We even bumped into one of the rangers at a local restaurant. He noticed us before we noticed him and came over to chat with us at our table. I lucked out one day and even got a good look at a couple of coyotes sunning together on a boulder. It's nice to sit out and stare up at Cheyenne Mountain and ponder all the conspiracies about the secret base deep inside and what kind of aliens might be there. If you're gonna come here, do it in the off season. It was nearly empty when we were there and I can imagine in the dead of summer it must be brutally hot during the day and crowded with inconsiderate fair-weather campers. read more

Initially our intention for our C Springs trip was to stay at Cheyenne Mtn State Park, but we took too long booking it and they were booked solid 2 months in advance. I thought this was interesting since it's off season and not spring break. Oh well. We found another park nearby that worked just fine. We still opted to pay the $7 to enjoy the trails for the day. Since it's still considered winter season the gate wasnt attended, but there's a well marked box off to the left of the gate where you place your money and get the parking pass. The trails are numerous and very clearly marked. We took 3 of the loops and it was partially moderate and partially easy I'm terms of difficulty. The views are beautiful. The trails were spotless. Since it was a random Wednesday in April, we didn't encounter another human on our hike (but saw many deer, lizards, etc). Also, being the off-season meant the restrooms were closed so we ventured up to the camping area restroom which was immaculate. $7 per car is certainly a fair price for the number of hours that could be spent exploring this beautiful park. read more

We stayed here in our RV for three nights in the summer of 2018. The views from the campsite are stunning, the facilities were spotless and robust. I loved that the sites were so well developed and level, it made it easy to back in. There are lights on the utility poles, nice gravel pads, tie downs on the tent pads, and an awesome fire pit. Our site in Raptor Glen has full hook ups and a spectacular view. The rest rooms were really clean, the visitor center was nice and staff was very helpful. I recommend Blackmer Hike (3.5 miles and medium strenuous, but fun and scenic). We would definitely recommend staying here again! read more

1 star only because it was a solid hike... if I'm paying for entry I expect the bathrooms at PICNIC AREAS to be open. Otherwise, I wouldn't have to drop trow and leave a marinating turd baby within walking distance to where people relax and eat their lunch... it's winter, so the dry straw was somewhat decent for wiping. Additionally, I'll add that the visitor center closed at 4 and I was unable to properly clean myself (I was fine... but desired a proper wipe). If you charge entry... make bathrooms available... god for bid... "wInTeR" is not an excuse. For those reading this... avoid the first picnic area on the left, off the main road after the entrance for your own sake. I did my best. read more

Not to be a wet blanket here, but I've camped a lot in Colorado, and this isn't one of my favorite places. I should make it known, I'm taking about "Tent Camping" only, not RV spots. Pros: 1. It's new, so bathrooms, trails, campsites are still in excellent shape. 2. Close proximity to about everything (Co. Springs, Manitou Springs, etc.) 3. The tent camping area is wonderful because there's quite a bit of distance between each site, lots of room and privacy. Cons: 1. They put up signs everywhere cautioning about bears (no lie, there was one near our campsite about 3:00 a.m.), saying to wash your dishes carefully, but then there's no dish station anywhere, and there's signs everywhere saying to NOT wash your dishes in the bathroom. Yes, they do have a faucet at each site, but it's right next to the tent pad, and if there are lots of bears here, shouldn't you NOT be washing your hamburger encrusted dishes three feet from where you'll be sleeping? 2. There's an army fort not far away, and while hearing "Taps" being played at night was soothing, the "I can't get them up" bugling at sun rise got old day two. 3. the tent sites do not have any overhead shelters, yet the do not allow you to rig up tarps with ropes (We did anyway. It was pouring rain, and we had to cook and tend to the fire). In my opinon, campsite number 48 was the best one because of the view of the mountains. HOWEVER, it's the farthest one back from the bathrooms and is quite a madcap run in the morning if you REALLY got to go. I'll be back, but only if campsite 48 is available. read more

Best camping in town! It is quiet, the trees are nice and full so there is plenty of shade. I've only stayed in the group sites so I can't vouch for the individual sites. The group sites are wonderful because they are just close enough together but not right next to the next group. I can't even describe how incredibly great the walking and hiking paths are! All labeled and maps everywhere. I highly recommend to book VERY early because they hook up months and months in advance. The prices are well justified and convenient enough for traveling through town but far enough from the main road that you'll enjoy the quietness of nature. The sites themselves have full hookups and are well paved, spots for tents, water spouts, and very friendly forest service staff. You'll always feel like they are there to help but not intrusive. Minus the super short chain on the fire pit it's my favorite! I know that sounds silly, but lay it flat and walk around near the pit in the dark and see what happens.... It's like a death walk Russian rulers if you fall into the fire. Longer chain to move it away from the pit please!!! Seems trite, it kind of is. But I could imagine a small child trying to get close to the fire pit and tripping on it while trying to roast marshmallows. Then, not so trite. :( read more

This was the most beautiful state park we have ever stayed at. The scenic views of Pike's Peak on one side and the views overlooking Colorado Springs on the other were breathtaking! The Park Rangers were friendly and informative. The trails were well maintained and fun for our kids. The laundry and shower facilities were very well-maintained and accessible. This was one of the highlights of our vacation, and if we ever travel through the area again, we'll be back!! read more

Stay in this campground! If you have a tent, the walk in sites are not far, but offer a little more privacy with the same great views. There are some nice trails to hike, and we really liked the disc golf course with our young child. The campground is really well-kept and clean, and the playground was a nice spot for our kid to play. The showers could use better pressure and temperature (ours was cold!) but we were just happy to have the option to shower, honestly. This was nothing like the pictures showed on their website. The picture show a beautiful scenery that was secluded and offered a pull up parking spot. This was not the case. Their was a trail basically going through or camp site. We could hear every conversation our neighbors were having as well as see them through the not so thick bushes. The bathrooms were up a very steep hill and there was no pull up parking so we had to carry all our gear down the very steep hill and horrible wooden stairs. Up all night from barking dogs and crying babies. Plus side is they had a designated storage bin for food so bears cant get to it and a beautiful veiw. read more

Absolutely fantastic park & campground! It was beautiful. Perfectly maintained sites with area for camper and tent if you like. My husband said the site was incredibly level for connections - best he'd ever seen. There were stairs behind the campsite that led to a really cool area with 3 picnic tables for a group or family get together. Then behind that were trails leading up to a great area where you can play games or let the dog run wild! In the evening the campground was very peaceful and amazingly at 5pm we heard Taps played from, I'm assuming, the Air Force establishment nearby. Definitely want to go again and stay longer! read more

We chose Cheyenne Mountain State Park for our Thanksgiving 2014 Holiday Week! When we arrived it was after hours and snowing. No problems! Found a site immediately, set up was easy, & a pretty level site, huge fire Pit! Clean, spacious, beautiful views. Pet friendly! Official am check in was easy. Staff is so very helpful & friendly. Visitor's center is informative, good parking, souvenir stuff & maps available. The kids did enjoy the playground. Trails are well marked. I'm giving them 5 Stars based on comfort, service, views, accessibility (my Mom was in a wheelchair), price, facilities, & amenities! Only drawback at all was the winding road to get to the top, but then it is a Mountain Park so who in the world wouldn't love that part!!! Extra kudos to the staff! So, everyone raves about Garden of the Gods and that is what most people are drawn to and I have nothing bad to say about GotG but Cheyenne Mountain is overlooked and I think that's a shame. We were just day hiking but the rangers were great and let us know about what trails would be good for us, and we decided to take the long trail available. She let us know which route to take so we could get to the trailhead. The trailhead was honestly a little hard to find but we managed to find it after about 10 minutes of orienting to the map-it's definitely not to scale. Our hike took a good bit of time, and was a good balance of strenuous and easygoing. Enjoyable hiking park but trail markers could use some improvement. read more

Love the fact that we have a State Park so close to town! We've tent-camped here in January 2012, hiked a few times, and ran Xterra trail races here at least once a year since 2009. In the fall, it's beautiful with frosty sunrises glinting off the turning leaves of the scrub oaks. The trails go in and out of the shade and vary from flat to challenging. Deer abound - just this past weekend during the Xterra 5k/12k/24k, we ran through a herd of deer that couldn't care less for our suffering up the hilly terrain. I've seen all kinds of birds and traces of bear. There are mountain lions here, but I've never seen one. The visitor's center is informative like all the others and the staff is helpful. Clean restroom facilities and good signage throughout the park. Dogs are only allowed in the campgrounds and picnic areas (leashed), NOT on the trails. This park isn't very big, but it's nice for folks who still want to be "in town." read more

Didn't have a good time. It was a Sunday night and it was so busy that when I went to register for a campsite, there were only 4 left. On a Sun night! Needless to say, I didn't get a very scenic site. Then, a loud, large group stayed in the campsite next to mine. There were at least 5 people, packed into a walk-in site (not a group site). I didn't get a lot of sleep. That sucked a lot. They also don't allow dogs on trails, which I totally understand. There are A LOT of irresponsible dog owners out there and off-leash, crazy but well meaning dogs and protected wildlife don't mix. Dogs get into things and accidentally disturb wildlife when off leash. A lot of places are banning dogs now because people are too stupid to follow the rules, or they make excuses, "Well my dog would never do anything wrong." That being said, I was very sad because I travel with my dog and she's very friendly, ALWAYS leashed, and has zero prey drive. So it sucks that we have to suffer because other people are dumb, but I guess not surprising. read more

The newest Colorado State park. Nearby downtown and US Army's Fort Carson. More of a out in the open park with some shady camp sites. Reservations a must in the summer. Sites are designed with trailers and RV's in mine. Hard surface parking in camp sites. PETS not allowed on ANY trails and MUST be contained at all times. Very clean restrooms. read more

We loved staying at Cheyenne Mountain State Park! The vista views on one side and the mountain on the other were beautiful. we used the laundry facilities, were were very nice and clean. It's connected to an activity room, with tables, chairs and games. the kids playground was very nice. It ended up raining so we couldn't do any of the hikes, which was disappointing so we'll have to go back. read more
