The name doesn't say it, but it's a restaurant that serves Haitian food. I got the griot plate, which included pork, rice and beans, plantain, macaroni salad, and a dipping sauce. Every single item in the combo was extremely delicious. I'm salivating just writing about it. For real. The owner is such a friendly man. He is the one taking orders and his wife is the cook. You need to order ahead of time so your food is ready when you arrive. My friend and I didn't know, so we had to wait for quite some time. During covid people can only do pick up, no sitting in the dining area. Also, a little sidenote that people don't usually write about, the bathroom was very clean! I'm coming back for sure!!

The dishes are all family recipes and it's like eating a home cooked meal! Each dish is served with rice, plantains, macaroni salad, pikliz and a home sauce. Their plantains are exceptional, i always add extra to my order! They are the only plantains I've had in Montreal that aren't dry and oily. On Saturdays, dishes are served with djondjon rice. Prices are very reasonable starting at just $13 (small portion) or $20 (large portion) for an entire meal that always yields us leftovers. I recommend @cassecroutequebec is worth a trip to the south shore !

Some of our standout faves were the kabrit and the griot poutine. The diri djon djon is also a must!! We wanted to make sure we experienced the best food this city had to offer and after doing an extensive social media search, I found this small, off-the-beaten path eatery in the St. Henri neighborhood of Montreal. What a great choice!! We arrived right on time for our 7pm reservation and the place was already packed. We were immediately seated and took in the electric vibe, bangin' music and cool-ass artwork. The smells emanating from the kitchen had us ready to pig out...and that we did! Everything on the menu looked so good we had trouble deciding what to order, but we finally ordered the plantain chips, mango wings, slow-cooked goat, fried shrimp and black rice. We tore all that food up and got an extra order of the shrimp. Our servers were friendly and funny and got a chance to meet the owner the owner and he even bought us a round of shots! He told us he was opening a bigger place later this summer! Wish I could go back for that! Pikliz was definitely the food highlight of our trip and we can't stop talking about it. If I ever go back to Montreal, I'm running to Pikliz!

While I was there, I felt as though I'd been whisked away to Haiti and sitting with the locals enjoying their favourite dishes. The entire experience - the food and the space was truly authentic! First, we tried their appetizer platter. Truthfully, it was more than enough food to be considered an entire meal. There was lamb, Griot, chicken, Miniature Haitian patties, fried yams, and fried akra balls and of course, a large spicy bowl of Pikliz. The meat was tender, perfectly seasoned, and tasted fresh. I'm not sure what filling was used for the Patties - maybe cod. Either way, whatever it was, it was delicious. For the mains, we were served two types of rice, the traditional rice and beans and a mushroom-based rice. We also had fried green plantain, which was fried to golden yellow perfection and a spinach like medley with crab, shrimp and beef mixed in. While the mains were great, the meats in the appetizer platter were my favourite! The restaurant is small and doesn't seat many; however, it doesn't feel crammed. The space is filled with many Haitian artifacts, giving it a very cultural feel. Beside the food and space, what I loved most were the people working there. I felt their love for Haitian food and culture in every interaction. Even though this restaurant is so inconveniently located for me, I will be back because it's worth the trek!
