We stopped here after seeing pictures of the space. We were expecting a cozy, relaxed vibe. When we arrived there was no music, it was very echoey and felt like a real library, as if we would be sushed. The cashier was very uncomfortable behind the counter and seemed very frazzled by our order, an apple juice and a slice of their pistachio cake. We paid cash, which really seemed to throw the cashier off. The dessert display was empty, aside from the one piece of cake that we purchased. It was somewhat dry, but had a nice pistachio flavor. I would definitely order it again if it were fresh. We sat by the window with our books we had brought to relax with. All in all, we were too uncomfortable to read. Music definitely would have helped. I appreciated the aesthetic of the place, and (what seemed like based off of the collections of conservative thought books) the intent of connecting people with different political views, but the overall vibe was off putting. read more

Second time here. One of my favorite cafes with great ambience and good vibes. Love all books! Parking lot outside have narrow parking spots, so come early or there will be huge foot traffic due to the restaurant next door and a public laundromat at the opposite side of the strip. It can feel ghetto sometimes when people are hanging outside the liquor store over there. Nothing beats such a great atmosphere inside though, and cashier/customer service was excellent as usual. I love books, piano, couches, tables, chairs, delicious sweets, and beautiful decorations. They actually have a huge selection of great books on the shelves here. Best ricotta pistachio layer cake too. Great selections. Well decorated with cool vibes. Bonus: French music playing in the background was lovely. Beautiful views all around. My sweet spot. You can feel the passions here. You can also sit outdoors in the patio area if you like. Foods and beverages are never overly sweet, so it's definitely just right for me. Quiet too. Lots of tables and chairs. Spinach feta croissant pastry, hazelnut latte, and tomato soup of day were excellent. Good presentation on plate. Trash bin and utensils are available to the left of countertop. Wifi connection is available onsite. Customers were very quiet and everyone was doing their own thing, whether working, or enjoying the moment of tranquility and peace. I love everything about this casual place and took some selfies. Lots of good yummy pastries on the countertop. Crepes are usually available on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Definitely check it out if you love cute and relaxing cafes. Highly recommended. I don't like to leave lower star reviews, but my experience here was not great. I came here to do some work for a couple of hours on my laptop. The ambiance is really cute, and they have a lot of seating. They don't have many outlets (which is forgivable) but the wifi was painfully slow--slower than being on an airplane. This felt surprising for a place with such an academic vibe. To get my coffee order in, I had to wait in front of an empty counter for quite a while. Eventually the barista came out to take my order, and then when paying, the tipping options were automated so that you had to tip higher than 15-20%. The iPad was so glitchy that you could barely select an option, or sign your name and move through the pages. I'm surprised that they are even using it. When I got the latte I ordered, it was really burnt and I barely drank it. My friend refused to order anything after trying my coffee. And to top it off, the bathroom was out of toilet paper, and they put a neat stack of rough napkins next to the toilet for use. After I used the restroom, I let the counter person know there was no toilet paper (in case she didn't know), and she just put an "out of order" sign on the door. I think with a little extra TLC, this spot could be really special, but it just seems like the owners are a bit checked out when it comes to the customer experience. read more

Ordering on the left as you go past seating. There is napkin and utensils tucked in the corner directly 6PM when you order... on way the bathroom. I would be back if the cappuccinos werent burnt. It is in the heart of Redwood City and is easy to find and accessible. It has a cute indoor vibe and is a lot bigger than what it seems from the outside. Excellent service and fresh bakeries (the croissant is impressive)! Yet the matcha latte was not well tailored- less matcha and too much milk, so one star down. For all others, it was terrific, and I would love to revisit the place. read more

Chez nous is a true Renaissance cafe, dabbling in a little bit of everything. First of all they have a very selectively chosen set of pastries and cakes to enjoy. Their regular menu has plenty of options, with sandwiches, crepes, oatmeal with fruit and more - and all of this, of course, with a great choice of coffee drinks. The place is very stylishly decorated with plenty of room. It has a fantastic selection of books which you are allowed to borrow from or contribute to. They have all kinds of events going on, from art classes to dancing to live music. This place is way more than a coffee shop, but a venue for events in its own right. The staff is extremely friendly and are always looking for ways to make the place an even more interesting destination. This is one of my favorite spots and I highly recommend it. read more

Very beautiful coffee shop with a lack of customer service. We arrived and amazed with the interior. It is beautifully decorated. It is a pretty large coffee shop. We were in front of the cashier and were not greeted at all. There are not many dishes option on the menu. It has patries. We ordered spicy avocado toast, blueberry muffin, and latte. I think the price on the wall is different than the price the peraon punch in. One incosistent service we see is when our latte is ready, we have to pick it up ourselves and for one customer the take the drink to the table. The avocado toast is good, and we ask why there is no egg and the person said no egg today. Latte is good but on the a bit sour side. Blueberry muffin is standard. This is a very nice decorated coffee shop with a lot of potential. The service needs to be improved, and with this large space, I think they need to come up with more attractive dishes on the menu. A couple weeks ago my partner and I checked out a flyer that they had posted in their front door outside about having open/inclusive conversations they would have during the evening/night only for it to backfired and had us kicked out for speaking up for our beliefs. They invited my partner into the restaurant to have an open discussion only to be interrupted/disrespected for what they wore/believe in. Disappointed that this had happened to us since I've been living in RWC for over 20 years and never had this happen, but fortunate that we encountered folks outside the establishment to check up on us. read more

Great ambiance. There is a lot of open space here with a ton of books on the shelves that you can pick up and read. There was also a piano in the restaurant. I know this place just opened recently and they're probably still ironing out kinks. I did notice some weird stuff with my order. I'd like to come back but would probably order different things next time. My fruit crepe was VERY crispy (an audible crunch when I bit into it). I don't think crepes are generally crispy so I guess they may have over cooked it. My iced mocha was large but a bit on the expensive side (over $6). I also thought it was oddly flavored - very strong/bitter and not really sweet at all. I also asked for this to-go and they didn't give me a lid. I had to ask. Maybe it was because the whipped cream was too tall haha Also my spouse pointed out that none of the staff were wearing masks which I thought was odd. I've been saying to my husband since we moved a year and a half ago that we need a cafe here, so when I heard about Chez Nous, I was delighted! We came to check it out yesterday, and now I'm really in love! Let's start with the atmosphere. From the outside, it don't look like much, but the inside is huge! They've turned this space into a cozy library with an piano bar twist. I love all the books and that they have hard and soft seating options. While the piano provides fun for families or the budding piano enthusiast during the day, they're planning to use it for entertainment once they start doing wine nights. Onto the food and drinks! My husband tried the drip coffee and I got a vanilla latte with oat milk. One of the best lattes I've had in awhile! My husband really enjoyed the coffee here, good quality but not weirdly fruity (like the coffee at some other coffee shops nearby). The pastries looked amazing, but we didn't indulge in those yet. Instead, we took the opportunity to try out the crepes (only available on the weekends) and a ham and cheese croissant. Both were excellent, and freshly prepared. You can watch the crepes being made right in the font of the order counter. I am so stoked to have this in our neighborhood and can't wait to try all the food! Wine night is starting next week, and I'll definitely be there. What a gem! read more

super cute cafe! i came here with a friend for a mid-morning coffee on a wednesday morning and it was actually quite busy since there was a large group of 15 or so women who had the large table/area to the side of the room. we had to wait a bit to place our orders, but the gal at the counter was super sweet and thanked us for waiting. my friend ordered a coffee and i ordered a hot tea, perfect for what was a bit of a chilly, overcast spring morning. we both enjoyed our beverages, and chatting, catching up for an hour, while enjoying this cute coffee shoppe with a variety of artwork spread throughout the main room. plenty of parking in the roosevelt shopping center, especially during midweek . there is a restroom in the rear, shared with other businesses in this building, so you need to ask the gal for the key, but it is otherwise well kept and clean. read more

So I looked around a lot while waiting on my cappuccino. The staff was very to themselves but the place was nice and clean. They had a crepe corner and lots of other pastries that I'm excited to try on the next visit. My cappuccino was reeeallly strong. I'm glad I got it to go because I had to add some milk to it when I got home. I will go back one more time to try their food. Hoping it's not a disappointment. Silly anecdote that has nothing to do with the food: They call out the drinks instead of the customer name for added confusion. Fine for someone ordering a hazelnut latte, but a poor old man who ordered an espresso must've went up there like 4x. As did a number of other espresso orderers. read more
