I've made some home improvements the past few years and am always surprised by how difficult it so to donate items that are in good condition. Most recently we renovated by son's room for his 10 year old bday into a "big kid" room. His furniture was 8-10 years old, but in near perfect condition. I reached out to a few organizations who said they couldn't take it, but one directed me to Honest Junk Company. I emailed them and they emailed right back with a date they would pick it all up. There was a fee of $160, but less than a junk company would charge me and I liked knowing that it would end up in the home of someone who needed it. They arrived a few hours early (called first) on the day they were coming so I wasn't home to greet them, but my husband said all went smooth and we should definitely use them again. read more

Have used HJ at least three times now and each time it's been a great experience. The guys who show up are always fast, efficient, friendly and understanding. They show up on time, get in and get out, are good-natured even as they're hauling heavy furniture around or figuring out how best to move it and you only pay for the space used on the truck, so the price is usually lower than you're quoted on the phone. A great option for large furniture option donations. I was initially going to donate our lightly used guest queen mattress set to Salvation Army but they weren't doing any pick-ups. I found Honest Junk Company online and tried them. They picked up the mattress within a week of reaching out and the guys who picked up the mattress were so kind and efficient. The min. charge is $125 but 80% of that is considered a taxable donation along with the value of the items that you donate. There is a 3% credit card fee for the $125 so we opted for writing a good ole check. We'd definitely recommend them if you're in the Chicago area (we are in Kenwood/Hyde Park area)! read more

I don't know which is worse here. Don't use them! Very unprofessional movers, for the most part the one guy was more helpful than his buddy. just remember the helpful guy started with a L. These movers drinking while in the truck before entering the home, these movers are doing cocaine while on the job and they will enter your home smelling of cannabis! just as the one guy did entering my home !!! plus being on his phone too, luckily for me the other guy was more helpful and got it done. Besides the unprofessional movers, particularly the one guy with the beard I had, the office staff were great and helpful. Make sure to just ask for clean(sober) movers next time. read more

Great Service. Scheduling was easy through emails. They sent a reminder email. The men who were coming out to pick up called on the day of delivery twice - once to tell me what time they would arrive, and a second call when they were 30 minutes away. These gentlemen were friendly and professional and very hard working. We had a lot of heavy items, plus a pile of loose smaller items, and they handled everything quickly. I recently moved and had some furniture to donate. I called Salvation Army and they are not accepting donations. Amvets also does not service Chicago. Honest Junk to the rescue! Minimum $125 but 80% is tax deductible. Follow up was perfect and process was so easy. Driver and his team were courteous and efficient. I found out about this company from one of their partners, the Chicago Furniture Bank( which I found out about through WINGS) They gave a quote through email, after I submitted photos. Setting up the appointment was easy to do over the phone, or it could have been done through the email as well. When they arrived, they were very pleasant. They told us to just sit and relax and not worry about doing anything. It was a team of 3 people and we estimated it might take over 2 hours but they got it done in 1 hour 15 min. The supervisor knew exactly what to do when it came time to dismantle the bedroom set complicated wall unit. They were careful removing the furniture leaving the condo and in the elevator. We have worked with another "junk" company in the past but the Honest Junk Co did a better job for less money. I would definitely recommend them to my friends and family read more

We had furniture (including a few that had a few dings but are still functional) and these guys helped us get it to Chicago Furniture Bank where it will be put in a warehouse where families can choose furniture for their homes without cost. These gentlemen were polite, efficient,and compassionate in what was a really trying time for us having to clear out my mother-in-law's apartment in a hurry. I highly recommend this service. We are moving out of state and needed to donate some large furniture items. I contacted honest junk co and they responded immediately. They partner with the furniture bank and useable items go to low income families. You pay for removal and use your receipt for tax deductions. The staff contacted us the day before to reconfirm time/date. 15 minutes before arrival the driver contacted us to say they were on their way, as arranged. They were in and out in 15 minutes.
