During this Covid time, they met me curbside, evaluated on the spot, confirmed the process, walked me through the options of converting several different medias, discussed projectors, jumpdrives, dvds, and dropbox. Being somewhat technologically savoy, I understood it well enough with their detailed descriptions. It all actually exceeded my expectations. They labeled each reel, slide, video individually, making it super easy to navigate, finding the content immediately. The content/media I was/am converting was time sensitive, again they exceeded my expectations. Not only with my first project, they earned my business for a 2nd project which was even more time sensitive. I will call out this employee by name, JASON, he was exceptional. My project hadn't completely uploaded for my files to be accessed yet via dropbox. After the normal business hours, I texted Jason as I'd been sending files to convert most of the afternoon. I explained the urgency of my media and without hesitation, he put his home life on hold, returned to the office and completed my project. I will forever be grateful as it allowed the main spectator to view these videos before it was too late. I highly recommend Jason to digitize family pictures and movies. My cousins had all their old movies (even from their parent's wedding in the 40's) put into a form where everybody could see them on the computer. We shared them in a family newsletter and it was an amazing experience for so many of us. My daughter lives in Chicago and I live in Seattle; we sat together on the phone looking at all the clips. For her, seeing family members that she never met but has heard so much about was transformative. She kept wanting me to stop and pause so she could watch a certain segment one more time. Her Grandmother passed when she was just seven years old ,so watching her grandmother as a young woman and playing with all of her children gave her so much insight into her personality. For myself, I was filled with so many emotions watching my family( many of them who have passed) interact and celebrate with each other. Also, seeing me as a little kid running around with all my cousins and siblings was so much fun. The coolest thing was my kids and I all sat in front of the computer watching it together. I'm so glad I found Chicago Scanning! We literally had a room full of family memories sitting on 8mm tape, vhs tapes, hi-8 tapes, mini-dv tapes and betamax tapes (remember those !?) and box after box of old photos and slides that we needed digitized. Jason at Chicago Scanning picked them all up and within a few weeks our entire collection was scanned and viewable on our TVs and computers and all I can say is AMAZING! I had been wanting to put my collection of older video tapes into digitial format for a long time ... and I finally decided to do it when my daugther announced she was getting married. But how to do it? I searched throughout the Chicago area and finally found some information about Jason. I was hesitant at first because Jason is not with a large store or company, but I decided to give him a try after we spoke because he was very nice and professional on the phone and very accomodating with respect to pick up and delivery of the tapes. So, I took a bit of a chance with my very precious video ... and I am very glad I did. Jason completed the process faster than promised, and the quality of the transfer was excellent. Technology can be a challenge, especially for those of us without support from either employers or our adolescent children, and particularly as tools and platforms evolve, change, and sometimes become obsolete. Jason and his team at Chicago Scanning handled my need with precision and facility - to open and retrieve the content of a back-up disc from an ancient corporate IBM laptop. Through a combination of their skill and the simple good fortune that the disc had not suffered physically, the thumb drive they created and its transfer to my current machine give me access to archives that I had thought were hopelessly beyond retrieval. Often I need artwork scanned that ends up in high-end (expensive) coffee table books. Fantastic experience using Chicago Scanning. Dave and his team were instrumental in completing our large scale archival project at the University of Chicago. They were able to digitize hundreds of old reel-to-reel tapes containing sensitive data to a very impressive standard. We presented the tapes to Chicago Scanning in poor condition, and were amazed at the quality of the restoration of the videos. Tapes were returned to us in excellent condition, showing that care for the tapes had clearly been a high priority throughout the process. Jason was great. I needed a slide show with 80 pictures the next day. I got to their shop right before closing time. He pleasantly agreed to stay and get the job done while I waited. After he finished scanning the pictures, he checked them carefully on his screen. Jason then saw dust streaks on some pictures which my eyes were not sharp enough to see; he then re-scanned the entire group of pictures with a different piece of equipment. My wife looked at the scanned 50-year-old black and white pictures and stated that the clarity is so much better than her own scanned photos that she will bring all her pictures there. I highly recommend Jason and Chicago Scanning. I needed apx 300 pictures scanned, digitalized and made into a slide show for my Dad's memorial service and he came through and did not disappoint. I dropped off the pictures on a Thursday and he had the job complete the following day as I needed a quick turn around. Jason made sure that the thumb drive worked on my PC and walked me through how to access the slide show and made sure everything was to my liking. Chicago Scanning took on an enormous job for us in 2019. They scanned every scrapbook and loose picture, as well as our wedding album. I have no doubt there were nearly 1000 images. Leaving our treasures with them was unsettling, but their professionalism made it a bit easier. The scans are great quality and a high enough resolution that I can have them printed if desired. As I looked for my images to create smaller printed albums, I could not find them. Four years later, it took Dave all of ten minutes to send me an email link to my dropbox items. So happy I found Chicago Scanning! I had 6000+ images on negatives and slides I needed to have transferred. Jason was so responsive and accommodating, as I had negatives in many formats (35mm, Kodak Instamatic 135, 110, plus some old Kodak Brownie negatives from the late 50's and 60's.) They were able to scan them all for me at a reasonable price and even shared images along the way via Dropbox. They restored some images I had never seen, and some I didn't think I'd ever see again. I needed some old VHS tapes converted to digital and dvd for the holidays. At first I was going to go with iMemories but was scared off by some reviews plus the cost and time to get them back. These guys did a great job. We had an old DVD that couldn't be read by any of our drives. They checked at least 3 of their drives and found one that worked. This is an important DVD for us and it's wonderful that we can now see it and even edit it (they copied it to MP4 and had us download it - great).
