I think I've been here for lunch on average once every 2 weeks since i've started working in richmond! I love going to this place! 1. It's close-by 2. They do NOT cheap out on the portion size! 3. The staff are always super friendly. I always ask for no rice, extra salad on my order of the chicken plate, and ask for no hummus because I'm allergic. Don't get me wrong, the other two were good, but for value and money - stick with the chicken plate. It's got naan, it's got rice, it's got chicken, and it's got salad. All for just $9.99 (can't remember if there was tax but even with tax added on top, it's a steal). We were in the area last week around lunch. My husband's friend had recommended Chicago Subs to him before and I remembered seeing great reviews on Yelp. We were really hungry and were excited to try it out. I had the Chicken Plate and my husband had the Chicken Shawarma. I definitely agree that the Chicken Plate is the best bang for your buck. They do not skimp on portions; so it's best to go here when you're particularly hungry. Or if you're not that hungry you can bring home left-overs. Seems like a win-win to me. All the food was delicious. The chicken was well seasoned, the tzatziki was creamy and fresh, and the rice was great too. There's nothing American about the place but they do serve a wicked sub. It's discreetly located in a small strip mall on Bridgeport near Ikea with free parking in front. As you walk in the door, the mouthwatering aroma of the chicken and beef rotisseries behind the counter hits you. They've got several options on their menus but the two real features are the rice plates and the subs. The rice plates consist of a large serving of your choice of meat (which they cut right off the rotisserie), rice, greek salad, hummus, and a pita and taste amazing. For $9 everything in, the chicken plate is my personal favorite. The portion sizes are large - I often opt not to take the pita if I intend to have a productive afternoon. The subs are equally delicious and come in 6" and foot-long sizes. They'll basically put anything you want on a sub - chicken, turkey, beef donair even. They've got a subway-like setup on the side where they'll load your sandwich (or pita) with the usual fixin's. The restaurant itself is a tad bigger than your usual hole-in-the wall places with seating for 12 people or so - it's more of a place you're want to do take out. The people that own the place are very quick and efficient in getting your order together. Even during busy times, lineups will disappear pretty quickly so if you're looking for a quick, cheap, tasty (workday) lunch, do yourself a favor and drop by. read more

I was curious as to what the reviewers were raving about. And so I decided to pop in and give it a try. They weren't wrong. Yes this is a casual place and it's a no frills place. They are generous with their portions that's for sure. I ordered the chicken plate with a Caesar salad. They gave me two huge dollops of hummus and tzatziki smack on top of the rice pilaf. I wish they had placed it on a side plate. That really was my only complaint. The chicken was delicious and white flavourful. There were a couple of hard pieces maybe overcooked. They gave me one pita to break apart to sop up the two dipping sauces that were on my plate as described earlier. See the picture. You won't leave this place hungry guaranteed. Located on Bridgeport near Ikea, has small free parking lot in front. I was in the area craving something quick and healthy food. This place popped up on yelp while I was searching inside Ikea. Glad I dropped by. Seems busy with locals on their lunch break. I ordered the falafel plate for $8.99 came with fresh falafels, humous, pita, salad and tzatziki sauce. The falafel were ok, not the best I've had but not bad either. The humous was my favorite from the plate. The salad was fresh it included tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and green onion but was missing something, maybe some chickpeas or cucumbers needed some type of texture. Overall, I thought it was a good healthy lunch. Maybe I should have tried the chicken donair or plate and or even a sub, I guess I will next time. read more

Chicago Subs is a good dependable place. They have chicken/beef shawarma plates which are a really good price and serving size. The beef/chicken shwarma plates comes with rice, hummus, taziki sauce, pita, rice, salad and of course chicken and or beef. I personally am a fan of the takeaway plate. It's amazing! My favorite is chicken because it's a little charred and adds that extra flavor profile! The serving size of the beef/chicken plates are really good compared to other places. Yes, Chicago does have sub sandwiches, but the main attraction is their Donairs. 3 types of beautiful meat (chicken, beef, lamb) on a giant stick, slow cooking and juicy, ready to be shaved off and put into your mouth. Drooool. Can't go wrong with getting a Donair. If you are hungry, then go with the Plate option. Chicken plate is my go to meal as it has a large portion of shaved Chicken on rice, greek salad side, homous, taziki, with Pita (brown or white). Ask them to make it "Spicy" and they'll throw down some franks to add a kick. Real quick and friendly service. It's been the same staff working there for years and they've got the system down. Tip: Make sure to have gum afterwards cause with these mad flavours you gonna have bad breath, but hey, It's totatlly worth it. read more

I've been here on two separate occasions and ordered the Chicken Plate and the Beef Donair. The Chicken Plate comes with chicken (can substitute for beef), hummus, tzatziki sauce, pita bread, and a Greek Salad. This monster is super filling and the best part is the meat. It's well seasoned and quite tender for something served so quickly. For a lighter, but still filling lunch, the Beef Donair (pictured below and also available in Chicken and Mixed) comes with beef, tzatziki, lettuce, and tomato wrapped in a pita shell. Compared to the Plate, the Donairs are just missing the rice and have regular vegetables instead of a full salad ($1.50 difference). The tzatziki sauce is pretty special here too. It's spread out evenly throughout the donair so you don't have those awkward moments when you're eating through the donair and discover all the sauce is at the bottom. If you like burritos or food wrapped in bread, it's really hard to go wrong here. Heck you could even order a plate and wrap the food in the included pita bread as you see fit. I love the customization and I love the taste here for under $10. read more

Franks red hot IS NOT for donairs, it's for wings, at least offer something descent like Sriracha...
