When to pickup a Reuben sandwich. Added pickles and comes with mash potatoes. The Reuben had a good amount of meet and flavor. I added a side order of fries that was a bit salty for me. read more

I came on recommendation of people I worked with, who sometimes come here for lunch, and have come here again a couple times afterwards. Selection is great, and you find choices you normally can't find elsewhere, and prices are very reasonable. Many of the customers appear to be local workers in the area, so the busiest time of day is lunch. If you don't mind a greasy-spoon restaurant, this is a good choice hidden from general view. read more

Located on the industrial side (south) of S.W. Marine Drive and Manitoba St., this little cafe, diner, casual dining, catering establishment is a classic. Unpretentious and offering honest, good food. At the helm is a honed, experienced chef who offers customers great value for their hard earned money. Portions are larger than expected and their daily specials are something to look forward to. On this visit, I had the fish & chips (1 pc.) special for $11.50 (add 1pc. fish for $6.95). The fish was the size of my hand, perfectly crispy batter encasing the moist, steamy hot fillet. perfect. Served, as it should, with kennebec style fries and tartar sauce and lemon wedge. As the picture shows, no frills, no bells and whistles - that was unnecessary as the food spoke for itself. While enjoying my lunch, I took in the hand written menu on the blackboard behind the counter...from burgers to spaghetti and meatballs to lamb and chicken souvlaki, their menu is as varied as your cravings of the day. I will definitely return and try more items. (I left with a slice of carrot cake to go!) This little cafe has been around since 2003, and obviously they have been doing something right! Good lunch menu with lots of comfort food as well as a Vegetarian menu and a choice of smoothies. There is an empty wall with 3 frames with no pictures. It was DEAD. Practically nobody in this place. You're pretty much guaranteed to get a seat on the weekend. It's a caterer/diner. Seating is ~20 peeps tops, and I'm guessing that the owner caters mainly to the local businesses and peeps that know about this place and work nearby during the weekdays. I know about it because my parents live in the area and I grew up in this area.. Prices, not bad. Maybe a $1 or $2 more than something comparable on the lower end of pricing. I know my diners. I go to a lot of them. This is one of the more cleaner and updated, in terms of renos, diners. Food is pretty decent for what it was. In house ground patty for the burger. If I had any complaint about it, there was a bit of gristle that was left in the patty. Evidence of house ground. I needed dental floss for that one. Fresh condiments on the burger with a bit of dressing. Fresh cut fries too. Daily specials are available. All in all, pretty decent. MC accepted read more

In an area suffering from fast food overload it was a relief to find this little diner offering up a tasty array of "homemade" meals. I like their $5 veggie wrap best, though it's much more like a burrito since it's got warm rice inside. I get them to add avocado for another buck and I'm good to go. As it's a catering business too there are a bunch of people working the kitchen but it does seem to add a bit of unneeded chaos. Check your take-out order before you walk out the door. read more

I was recommend this place by someone who worked in the area. I've book marked this since January 18th. Even though I take the 100 to and from work it's taken me a while with their operational hours to actually come down here. They're open super early, therefore, I hit this place up before work as I didn't have time due to weather and the snow to go grocery shopping and needed a simple lunch. For $4 I had two eggs and toast which is normally what I have for breakfast. Fast service and friendly. I wish they were open later so that I could have a late lunch after work, however, for now this is my emergency place. read more

Sugar's is the place I usually like to eat when I'm not making my own lunch or sneaking food from the movie people next door. The majority of their food far exceeds anything else you can get in the area, and the staff are always willing to make substitutions or 'veganize' something for me. I have also gotten a decent tofu scramble (not on their menu) and a really amazing Mediterranean sandwich (not always on their menu) from them when it was quiet. Despite the usual tastiness there are a few spots for improvement. They use chicken stock for all of their soups (including the vegetable ones), which means none of them are veggie-friendly. Their veggie burger also used to be the best burger I had tasted anywhere, ever - but they recently switched to Yves burgers which are only ok. Their prices also recently went up, and some of the items on their menu I don't think are worth the new costs. As a final thing I've never found any of their desserts to be really appetizing, luckily there is a whole-sale ice cream parlour next to them. I would recommend going there instead if you're really craving something sweet. Bottom line: I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if you're in the neighbourhood it's loads better than the McDonalds next door. read more

This busy little spot is wonderful if you are shopping at Restore, Marshalls, CrapTire south of Marine Drive! Munched the Lamb Burger at $8.95 with plenty of hand cut fries today. While super tasty and freshly-cooked, this delightful nosh is served on an over-sized Kaiser bun, which makes the patty look small. Lots of perky lettuce and tender tomato dressed this burger. The fries! Sugar has been here for quite a few years, we used to breeze past it on our way to BenDick ice cream in this teeny "mall" - BenDick has the very best ice cream. If you have room after the tasty Sugar feast walk a couple of doors east and be delighted by too much choice. Lots of street parking on Manitoba. This place gets very busy around lunch time, so maybe grab a to go and head over to the Fraser River and watch the tugs go by. read more

With not much in the neighbourhood except fast food I've been here a few times. Third time's a charm right? Nope. $12 for a tuna sandwich with cheese. $2.50 if you want to add fries, which are not worth it. I had the BLT before and the bacon was fatty and limp. I don't know why everyone raves about this place. Maybe because there's no competition? It's overpriced, below average diner food. The catering arm of this place seems to be booming with trays of tasty goodness stacked high and with all those cooks you don't have to worry if there is a lineup as food gets served quickly. I really was very disappointed with this firm. I had Christmas dinner provided by them and it was nasty. No bread rolls, cutlery which you had to collect, vegetables slathered in garlic ( which meant no choice for people who don't like garlic), gravy which was fatty and tasteless. Then for dessert you had to present a cup if you wanted tea or coffee and the dessert itself was nothing special at all. I will not be risking having any food with this place again. read more

I think the people that dislike this place are the people who eat alot of processed and garbaged food. 2 sandwiches I highly recommended are the breakfast club and the Single decker turkey sandwhich. They use real turkey meat not that processed stuff. read more

I liked their take out specials. We did get catered by them on few occasions in my office, then somebody told me they have a Deli also. So stopped by to try their sandwiches. I tried their Vegges Sandwich & Chicken soup, both were good. The sandwich itself was quite huge lasted me for 2 meals. So its a decent place & worth a try. read more

This place is definetly worth going a little out of your way for. Their salads are great for the price , $6 for a full plate salad with chicken, ham and cheese. Try their mexican slad with chicken, avacoda and fresh slsa for $6. Way better than anything down in the marpole area ( since only fast food places around). Also has a TV going with sports on, so for those games that are midday one can find them here in a quiet spot. read more
