There are meals you enjoy... and then there are meals that make you pause mid-bite and question…read moreevery other fried chicken decision you've ever made in your life. Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken? Yeah. It's that kind of place. We went for the chicken sandwiches and I need you to understand--these were not just "good." These were ruin-other-places-for-you good. Crispy, juicy, perfectly seasoned... the kind of sandwich that makes you immediately start planning your next visit before you've even finished the first one. Now let's talk sides, because they did not come to play. Coleslaw (mine): fresh, balanced, actually flavorful (which is rare because let's be honest... slaw can be a gamble). This one? Solid win. Fried okra (my friend's): I am extremely picky about fried okra. Like, I side-eye most of it. But THIS? Golden, crispy, not a hint of that weird slimy nonsense. It was so good we ordered more to take home... which tells you everything you need to know. And because we clearly make excellent life choices, we shared a chess pie for dessert. Rich, sweet, buttery perfection. What really tied it all together though? The service. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without being over the top. The kind of service that makes you feel taken care of, not rushed. Bottom line: Every single bite was worth every penny--and honestly, I would've paid more and still walked out happy. This is one of those spots that doesn't just meet expectations... it casually exceeds them and then sends you home thinking about it later like a crush you're not over yet.

I love the way they prepare their chicken; they are seasoned very well with a little bit of kick to it. They are not heavily breaded. I have had chicken tender, breast and wings. The size of the chicken is bigger than their competitors'. I find their meals are good value for your money. As far as the sides I have tried Cole Slaw, Mac and Cheese and Potato Salad. Their potato salad is my favorite, so I always upgrade to that. The Mac and Cheese are good too. The wait staff are very friendly. I received an excellent service from Emily from the time I walked in until I received my order.

I got a mixed combo and it was great. They apparently cook to order, so it took a few minutes, but it was well worth the wait! Perfectly crispy hot and juicy fried chicken and fried okra, and tasty homemade tasting potato salad. I couldn't pass on the fried apple pie. It was crunchy with cinnamon spiced apples inside. Parking is a pain, but awesome food is worthy a little struggle. Haha. I'll be back. It's close to my office which might prove dangerous in terms of my waistline.

We had; Chicken Fried Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Fries. Tasted like processed Steak that came frozen. But it was good with the gravy and potatoes. Steak Finger Basket with Fries. Same as the Chicken Fried Steak 9 Piece Chicken Tenders. Tender and good. I also got 1/2 Dz Chicken Livers that were battered well and had good flavor. I Ordered the Catfish Only which came with Tarter Sauce and Two Hushpuppies. Good Cornmeal Batter and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. All in all it was OK. Nothing special but still good. I would go back to try their Fried Chicken and Breakfast Tacos! The employee that waited on me was very friendly and nice. Overall it was a pleasant experience

We both subbed beans for mac and cheese. My friend appeared the most jolly I'd ever seen him and thoroughly enjoyed the chicken. I really liked the mac and cheese, and I liked the chicken as well. The coleslaw was decent, and I often don't like coleslaw. The skin was tough and too much for me, but the food itself was great. The two piece was substantial for me, and the four piece seemed to be a little too much even for a big boy. The restroom floors were suspiciously very wet. I feel like they could provide some moist towelettes because the chicken was very greasy, and we had to just pour water on the napkins. Downtown street parking was a struggle, but I found 2/3 of a spot close by that I decided could count as a spot.

There was a small hiccup with the sides, but the staff was quick to fix it. The sides were good, and the chicken was juicy, flavorful, and didn't need any extra seasoning at all. I just wish the chicken pieces had been a little bigger! Overall, I had a good dining experience. The restaurant was clean and cozy, the service was great, and the chicken was delicious!

But the staff handled it really well. They were fast, apologetic, and refreshingly colloquial, not stiff or robotic, just real people taking care of customers and keeping things moving. Since fried chicken was off the table, I went with the grilled chicken, and honestly it was excellent. Juicy, perfectly seasoned, and flavorful enough that it did not feel like a consolation prize. Maybe this was the universe giving my cholesterol a temporary reprieve. The collards were just okay and not the strongest part of the meal, but everything else made up for it. The restaurant itself was super clean, and you could tell this newer location is well cared for. At about two years old, it still felt sharp, polished, and well run. I've been to several Hattie B's locations over the years, including the original in Nashville, Franklin, and Atlanta, where I once saw a woman riding a horse down the street in front of the store, which remains one of the more unforgettable restaurant-adjacent moments of my life. Austin compared well with all of them. Bonus points, there was no line, so we had a quick lunch with coworkers and still made it to the airport early. Not the exact Hattie B's experience we expected, but still a very good one, and a place I'd absolutely come back to.
