Stopped by Hat Creek Burger Company in Buda for their "Wear Burnt Orange for a FREE Cheeseburger to Celebrate the Sweet 16!" promo. They were giving away a FREE Little Hat Burger when wearing Burnt Orange. Parking was a bit challenging to find because there was a crowd there for the promo. The place was very busy and the line was very long, but the staff was friendly and efficient in keeping the line moving when taking orders. It took some time before I received my burger because of all the orders. The free Little Hat burger was very tasty and I got my burger with cheese and added all the toppings. This restaurant also has amazing tater tots that are fried crispy with just the right texture. The restaurant has a playscape on site that is always popular with family and children. Hat Creek is always a solid go-to for a casual meal, especially with the family-friendly setup and outdoor space. read more

PROS: -They offer many gluten free options that most other places do not. -Family friendly. -They serve alcohol. CONS: -They close at 9p. -Minimal indoor seating. -The food is good when it's good, but often times it is not. The quality and portion sizes vary with each trip. Sometimes the onion rings are great, but sometimes you only get half the portion or it's a soggy mess. The salads are great, but sometimes the salad is a full container and sometimes it's half empty. -The service here is just service, but barely. Half the time, there's no one at the register. They really want you to use the kiosks so they don't have to interact with the customers. The drive-thru is just as bad. Someone will be at the window to hand off your food, but they immediately disappear so it takes a while to get your order fixed if something is wrong with it. Overall, they really don't seem to care. They're more focused on their social media presence and app then the customer experience. There are much better options in this town. read more

This place is a mediocre place to go to for a cheeseburger. I ordered the Little Hat Cheeseburger with Tater Tots and a fountain drink. The bun was cold and seemed to be a bit stale. The hamburger patty was cooked OK and the veggies seemed to be fresh. But, the cheese wasn't melted. The cheeseburger was not the best...I've had much better. The tots were pretty good...crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Most of the staff were very young and lacked focus. I didn't get the friendly warm welcoming reception. Just looked liked they were focused on other things. The cashier actually knocked off 3 bottles of drinks on the counter and 1 broke on the floor and got all over my pants and new shoes because she was talking to another employee and wasn't paying attention. No apology or anything. She attacked frustrated when I asked her for a wet rag so I could wipe the drink off my pants and shoes. Very poor customer service! The restaurant looked to be clean...countertop's, tables, chairs and floor. Not a good experience and I'm hesitant to even give them 3 stars. I probably won't be a returning customer. read more

Was excited to try a new place but when you stand in line and your partner and she speaks to you and you can't hear what she's saying from one foot away the piped in music is too loud to the point of unbearable. It's a small place but we went for the playground so the kids could play and get some energy out! Food was also good, it's more of fast food style food and service but prices are like a restaurant price. Fast food that's made to order, so it's a hair longer than traditional fast food. They offer keto, vegan, and paleo options. All of their burgers can be made into a bowl, too. The staff is VERY friendly and helpful. There's a slew of outdoor seating and a play area for the kids. We got burgers and tots. I got mine in a bowl, he got his on a bun. Burgers were good, tots weren't the best I've had but they were just-crispy enough (a bit more cooking for more crispness and they'd be perfect). We only ordered sodas but I noticed that they offered a selection of beer. When we're in town we stay a hotel nearby, so this is walking distance (which we appreciate). Hat Creek has always been not the greatest food, especially for the price, but it seemed like they tried? But more recently they've just gone downhill and it's not . This location isn't any different than others but my goddaughter always liked the play area so I'd give in and go. Last visit the food was just dry and flavorless, and no amount of sauces seems to improve it. Atmosphere at any Hat Creek is always fun for families. We've been going to Hat Creek for 8years and our kids always ask to go. Sadly it seems the desire for a great experience for families has gone way down since we started coming. Now each time we come our order is incorrectly charged and even incorrectly delivered. Our most recent trip was with 2 $10 gift cards from our time before being such a poor experience. We are so close to just choosing another place for our family to enjoy. I feel simple things would greatly improve the experience, a smile and greeting upon arrival, giving time for customer to order instead of continually asking abruptly if they are done ordering, not shouting to staff when customer is speaking, and again smiling once in a while. Again this is from multiple experiences at this location. I tried the new chili and be warned if you order it there are no toppings, the toppings require extra charge. There are no beans, only meat and tomato sauce. The kids meals burgers are tiny tiny with NO toppings and charge extra for cheese so just be aware It used to be a great place for families with great fresh food with shareable family fries. Great time, great burgers... Really enjoyed our time at Hat Creek yesterday. After two separate events our family met at Hat Creek for a total burger experience. Plenty of parking around the restaurant. We walked in, ordered, and found a space to sit without any problems. There was only of seating indoors underneath the faux barn. Not that you had to wait too long, but the kids could play in their playground outside. The food came out quickly. My Southwestern was awesome. It had jack cheese, green chilies, and grilled onions over the two cooked burger patties. This burger was full of flavor, and big enough to satiate my appetite. The regular and sweet potato fries were also good. The regular sized strawberry shake didn't last too long either. I want to recommend the team for their friendliness. Whether they were serving and prepped by the food or cleaning up the dining area, they were all over it. I recommend this place for it's ambiance and it's delicious burgers. read more

Horrible customer service. We've always come and never had issues. I picked up my online order, checked in the car and realized my 3pc nuggets were missing. I went inside and told the cashier. He went to the back and said that the staff in the back were sure they placed it in the bag but that he'll get another bag. I told him that I double checked, and it wasn't in the bag. And he rudely said that I should check again when I get in the car because it's in there but that he'll give me another order. When my husband went to talk to him about it, the cashier denied the whole thing happening and handed him a $10 card. I've never had a bad experience at Hat Creek until today. The wait was completely unacceptable. It took over an hour just to get my order, and there were no seats available for a lot of customers, which made the situation even worse. What really frustrated me was being told the wait would only be 10 minutes, when in reality it was well over 45minutes before food even started coming out. We have been meaning to try one of these locations and we are glad we did. The kids loved their grilled cheese, tots and milk. I enjoyed my little hat combo. The hubs enjoyed the fried chicken sandwich meal. The service was quick from placing our order to getting our food. I really enjoyed being about to take my kids out to their playground after we ate to get the wiggles out. The bathrooms are also clean. Overall a great family stop for any meal. read more

Not super fast. The kids burger is more the size of a breakfast biscuit.... The fries, grasshopper shake, and cowboy burger were good. The Nutella bacon shake... ONE strip of bacon stuck in it like a straw.... Your order sits at waist level where anyone can breathe, sneeze, cough on it, or as we personally witnessed, a little kid touched a wrapped hamburger around 6 times while his mother was 2 feet from him doing nothing, other than sipping her wine.... The lady that came to pick up HER order had to wait for the kid to stop touching it so she could pick it up... LOTS of kids, luckily they pretty much stayed in the "kid area" and playground which was all walled off from the small "regular" dining room. We aren't coming back. read more

We tried Hat Creek for the first time today during lunch time, around noon. The outdoor covered patio had plenty of seating and if the sun wasn't trying to melt us all we would have definitely sat outside. The menu is simple, burgers and chicken burgers. I chose the little hat which is their single patty burger and it was quite large. Everything is a la carte so the prices appear inexpensive but the total racks up quickly if you want to add a side and a fountain drink. We split a few sides- fries, tater tots, and fried pickles. We overestimated our hunger and it turned out to be a bit too much food. My husband also tried the side salad that was about $5 and only slightly larger than the $1 salad from McD's with comparable ingredients. The star of the show here was obviously the burger but the dipping sauces were a close second. I just moved back from Ohio and I'm positive the Ohioans would get a kick reading the kissing cousins joke about their Kentucky neighbors. Try the fry sauce though, it is tasty! The place had a good amount of people eating there but it wasn't overcrowded and there was tons of seating in and outdoors. I loved the playscape because most kids are done eating after about five minutes. Hat Creek was a tad bit overpriced but it's definitely somewhere we will come back to enjoy a good meal and maybe some beer. read more

Hat Creek is one of my favorite quick bites in Buda. Conveniently located to the highway, they offer fresh burgers and sandwiches and sides with great service. I love the tots and the hat creek sauces. There is ample seating and this location is always clean when I go in. I think it's a bonus that they serve beer and wine as well.
