We talked about visiting TWD sights numerous times and I bookmarked GTC page years ago. For his birthday this year, I said "screw it, let's go", and surprised him. Of course, we're chaotic and were running late and had to catch a flight home the same day due to a family emergency. Wendy called us when we were a few minutes late to make sure we were okay. That was the first positive sign. When we arrived, we were met with smiles and waves. We were the only two in our group so Wendy was happy to accommodate our needs in able to get us to our flight on time. The experience was incredible. Definitely something we will never forget. We took the WEST tour and visited so many cool sights that were not only filmed for TWD, but films like Lawless, Stranger Things, the new Emmit Till movie with Whoopi Goldberg and SO much more. Wendy took photos of the both of us, all while sharing fun facts and trivia. We were treated to a wonderful lunch about half way through the tour and made it back in time to shop the clothing and souvenirs at the Georgia Tour Co. shop (per our request). And LUCKY US, they were filming in Senoia that day and Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride and the young actor who plays RJ were all there. What a cool experience!!! Lastly, we headed over to Nic and Normans to pick up some gear. We are already planning another trip to take the EAST tour. The process to book the tour was easy and VERY reasonably priced, especially considering the time, effort, and the fact we were fed. While we know the other GTC staff are all amazing (we met quite a few), we will definitely be requesting Wendy show us around again. It was hard to make friends (keep in mind, I am social type of person) and do the things I love. I met Steve on Facebook. He was so kind and you could tell from his posts, that he just wanted to help people. I finally reached out to him and attended an event. It was an event that was the beginning to my "normal." It was the first event I attended and honestly was a bit nervous bc I have been to "meet-up" groups and well they weren't all pleasant experiences. Everyone was so nice, inviting, down to earth just good people. Everyone has their own personality, no one judges, we come together do fun events, events that help our community, we learn at these events...it's just an awesome experience. I could write a whole page!! The point is...I got involved with this group looking to make friends. Not only did I make friends, but these friends turned into my second family here in Atlanta. We saw the library, Radio Shack and even Melvad's General Store. We had our own viewfinders (remember those?) so we could see the actual movie scenes filmed where we were standing. Our tour guide was a big Stranger Things Fan and gave us lots of info you'd never know about the show. For instance, the Stranger Things logo is actually in the same "font" as the movie "It". And Max's skateboard: the same one used in Back to the Future. After the tour we got to have our own Surfer Boy (My Dudes! Try before you deny!) cheese, pepperoni and pineapple pizza . We mostly stood around on a slow Monday night and watched delivery robots up and down the streets that were more interesting than the tour. No sources, no access, no atmosphere. Also, the "tour guide" told us it's rumored that Wayne Williams of the Atlanta Child Murders took some of the boys he killed to St. Mark United Methodist Church on Peachtree St. and briefly left them there in the basement before he disposed of their bodies. She then went on to say that the church now holds children's services in the same part of the church and that it's "creepy." Give me a break. I've lived in Atlanta for a quarter century and have researched that case extensively, and I've never heard of anything so ridiculous until now. There's also nothing online to support it. If you're expecting legitimate stories, a little theater, or even one genuinely spooky stop, this isn't it. Cut the sales pitches, pick actual sites we can experience, and tell fewer, better stories with citations. Until then, hard pass.
