Beautiful North GA course layout. Rolling hills, maintained bunkers, Tall seclusive trees. A couple water hazards got the best of us. The fairways drained out nicely though it had been raining for days prior. Over crowded tee times in the morning. Not fun having 4.5 hr round. The 2some we played with mentioned this is a regular practice of their scheduling. Greens slower than expected; running about 8-10. On the smaller side and challenging. Would have been nice for the starter to mention a few blind shots or just be cheerful. Pretty dry guy with a stiff marshall attitude only to warn to be mindful many holes had 90° only or no cart at all. Slow kitchen in the morning, so we had to skip breakfast. not much of a 19th hole hangout. Opted to go out to a local bar instead. The checkin was a straight faced 'how can I help you'. No intro to the facilities or course or thank you for playing. Boo. Though they had 2 drinks carts active, we only saw them once on the front and once at the 18th tee box. Had an absolutely terrible experience as soon as we walked in the door to check in. The older staff in the front checking us in stared at my group in a way that can't be described other than annoyance. My dad was asking questions in English and he just stared at us like he couldn't understand when he clearly could and was dismissive. Never realized just how popular this course was, since it on the other side of the northern OTP. Close to Lake Lanier. Upon entry for our 11:45 tee off (played with 4 threesomes) the clubhouse was a welcome sight to get nestled and getting some libations for the course. They have an outdoor makeshift grill with drinks and other snacks for those who need to grab and go "on the turn" We played the MILL and the Villages courses. This club has 3 nine hole courses.(27 holes). Mill course opened up to a par 5 which is a good start. Since it was early spring the foliage really came out and it's was a gosh darned beautiful day. 75 to 80 degrees, slight winds, most of the fairways were in decent shape. Some tee boxes needed some work and as well of some fairways, the greens were fast in the morning but surprisingly slowed down quite a bit as the day wore on. This goof course is defiantly challenging but user friendly. I think all levels of golfers would enjoy this. read more

Chicopee Woods is a gem of a golf course located about 45 minutes to an hour north of Atlanta in Gainesville, Georgia. I don't like using the word "gem" because it's cliche, but that word truly applies here. This is a superb, well-run, and well-maintained public golf facility with 27 holes (three full-length par-36 nines), a separate instructional center with a driving range and two short game practice areas with bunkers, an additional practice putting green, a spacious pro shop and grill, a friendly and helpful staff, and reasonable prices. If you love golf, this course is worth the drive. The three nines are called The Village, The School, and The Mill. The Village and The Mill are the original two nines that opened in 1991. They were designed by Denis Griffiths who has designed many other courses in Georgia including Chateau Elan, Chestatee, Georgia National, RiverPines, St. Marlo, and The Creek at Hard Labor State Park. The Mill is the newest nine. It opened in 2001. I'm not sure who designed it. The greens are MiniVerde Bermudagrass and they are easily some of the best greens I've played on in Georgia. If you play 18 holes, the starter will let you know which two nines you'll be playing. There are three combinations you can play: Village & Mill, Mill & School, and School & Village. There are five sets of tees and the scorecard has course ratings/slopes and yardages for each combination from every set of tees. As far as rating/slope and yardage goes for each combination, there is not a whole lot of variation. For example, the rating/slope and yardage from the tips (gold tees) for each of the combinations is: Village & Mill: 72.7/134 (7,008 yards) Mill & School: 72.7/136 (6,926 yards) School & Village: 73.4/138 (7,040 yards) We played from the middle (white) tees which play as follows: Village & Mill: 68.4/124 (6,052 yards) Mill & School: 68.6/124 (6,002 yards) School & Village: 69.0/124 (6,050 yards) We played Village & Mill. There are some courses where you can tell if a nine was renovated or added on. Even though The Mill was built 10 years after The Village, I couldn't tell a difference. The two nines seemed to fit seamlessly together. The course is beautiful. It's situated in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. As such, several of the holes are quite hilly and there are many elevation changes, some of which are significant. The fairways roll with the natural shape of the terrain and there are a lot of curves, dips, mounds, peaks, valleys, and undulations -- more so than the average Georgia course. Thick sets of trees line just about every hole. There are no houses on the course. Some of the holes border a deep forest. A walking/biking trail cuts through a good portion of The Village, paralleling multiple holes, so you might see or hear walkers, joggers, runners, and bikers through the trees. From hole to hole, the course is quite scenic. I think the layout is the perfect balance of challenging and forgiving. It's not a bear and I think it's appropriate for golfers of most skill levels. Some holes might give beginners problems, but overall, I think this is a nicely designed track. I really enjoyed playing on The Mill which starts off with a tee shot over a valley to the top of a hill that then dramatically drops off towards the green (par-5). The view is incredible from the No. 1 green through the No. 4 tee because not only do you have some great elevated vantage points of the manicured landscape, but there are two lakes bordering these holes as well. Water really only comes into play on the second hole which is a par-3 over a pond. The greens are relatively big and flat. There is an average number of bunkers. As for course conditions, they were outstanding. I don't think I've played on a course in better shape for under $60 except for The Frog. We paid $54 per person for our Saturday morning round booked through TeeOff.com. According to TeeOff.com, we would only have to pay $53 per person, but we were charged $54 in the pro shop. I wonder what the discrepancy was. It wasn't a big deal. After playing the course, I would be willing to spend $60, $70, even $80 to play it again. It's that good and definitely better than several other more expensive courses I've played in metro Atlanta. From tee boxes to fairways to bunkers to greens, the course was in terrific shape. There were no problem areas. Now this isn't a high-end, pristine, PGA Tour quality course, but it's exceptional for the price tier that it's in. One interesting observation I have about this course is the cart paths say, "Park ALL four wheels on cart path." I've played at a lot of courses over the years and this is the first I've encountered where the staff is strict about parking all four wheels on the cart path. After scooting over to let the food and beverage cart lady go by, a ranger told us to move all four wheels of our cart back on the cart paths "now!" I guess that's how they keep the course looking nice. read more

I rarely venture too far away from Atlanta for a round of golf. This course is definitely worth the 40 minute drive. This course is amazing. From tee box to green, the course conditions are impressive. You have to give kudos to the crew for striping the fairways, rolling the greens, keeping everything lush, green and golf ready. Definitely well staffed, several marshalls on patrol, and the cart girl came around at least 5-6 times. I have never seen the cart girl twice in my other tracks but this place knows hospitality. I jumped into the club at the turn and I got my hotdog and drink , in and out in less than 3 minutes. For the golfers out there, know that the fairways are wide and bomb ready. Channel your inner Bubba and send that little white ball that you love and hate screaming down that pretty fairway. Mind the greens tho.. they aren't the fastest , so don't baby that putt. read more

TL:DR - If you're an avid Atlanta area golfer, you MUST play Chicopee Woods. Our group of three played the Village and Mill courses on a brilliant late September Saturday. Both 9's were excellent and from the looks of what we saw, the third 9 on the property (the School course) is just as good. For sure, the 9th green on that course, which you can walk to from the clubhouse, is fantastic-looking. - Superb greens - smooth, flawless, fast and varied contour. - Superb fairways - hard to find a bad lie in the short grass, not many tight lies. - Very good bunkers - not hard-packed like at many courses. There was one fairway bunker that was in poor shape, an anomaly. - The course has a really nice layout with lots of hills and slopes. Not many water hazards but water is in play on a few holes. Very scenic. - Good beverage cart service. She came around frequently. - Nice clubhouse, and the folks in the pro shop are a hoot. Chicopee Woods is not the toughest test of golf but it's certainly challenging enough for most handicappers to enjoy. We played the white tees, so it only gets tougher from the back. It's a very fair course design. You'll be rewarded for good shots and suffer a fair penalty for poor ones. I'm annoyed when I hit what I think is a great shot only to find ball rolled into some unseen hazard I was unaware of. This is the nicest course I've played in the Atlanta Metro area with the possible exception of Bear's Best. Coupled with the relatively inexpensive greens fee, it easily rates 5 stars. A very nice golf course located in the southern part of Gainesville, GA (right off of the expressway). They have Three 9 hole courses, which are pretty challenging courses. If you choose to play 18, you'd get assigned 2 of those 3 courses. The course is priced relatively nice, whereas a 'twilight game' starts at 4pm, and is only $22.00 for 9 holes. Inside, they have a pro shop, and a food cafe that serves burgers, sandwiches, sodas, beers and all are priced well. The golf courses are well manicured and you don't have any dead grass or garbage laying out on the courses. The rangers drive around quite a bit and help speed the play around. "Coach", one of the course rangers, is a expert gunshooter, and an amazing golfer. At various times on the course, he has helped me with my swing and gave me some pointers as to why I was not hitting as well as I could have been. The course is visable from the expressway (985), and as you drive by, you can see how well it is maintained. During bad weather, they cover up the greens. During extremely hot weather, they water it well to keep the grass green. They mow the course well, and overall, take very good care of the course. The holes are moved often enough to make the course challenging and feel like you are playing a different course every time. The golf carts that are used are electric and have great power behind them, enough to get up some of those big hills. They are always clean and well maintained. There is a 90 degree rule in effect (most of the time), so that helps maintain the course as well. For a local 9 hole course, they run it well, like a well oiled machine! read more

This a gorgeous 27-hole golf course. The reason I only gave it 4 stars is due to that fact that over the last couple years there are changes to the course that are disappointing. First off the driving range uses mats now, which completely ruins the experience as mats don't give the same feedback as hitting off grass so the entire driving range is pointless for practicing. Also I notice that they have begun chopping down trees on a few of the holes. I hope they will not continue to remove the nature that makes the course so appealing. read more

As a confessed "golf snob," I will drive to play a nicer course. Each time I have driven 45 minutes to play Chicopee Woods, I have found it worth the time. The course has three nines which are similar, but unique - tree-lined, rolling hills, and spectacular greens. The clubhouse is a bit dated, but sufficient for the purposes it serves. The staff is professional and punctual with tee times announced via loudspeaker in advance. The driving range, located quite a distance from the clubhouse, is adequate for warmups and has speakers enabling groups to hear the Starter's messages. The practice green is large and matches the speed of the greens on the course. As with any course, the pace of play can slow at times, but rounds at Chicopee are generally completed in under four and a half hours. I have played there before and will again... and enjoy another very good bratwurst in the dining room afterward. read more

This course gets a solid 4 stars on average on the different websites I checked out before booking a tee time myself and I can understand why. The club has excellent practice facilities and the course was in wonderful condition, particularly for the time of year we played. So what are the reasons for my own 3 star review? I save my 4 star reviews for courses I would like to play regularly given the opportunity and in all honesty, I felt this course came up a little short. The scenery was pleasant but not spectacular and many of the holes were very similar in appearance. One of my pet peeves though is blind tee shots and this course has a bunch. If you are going to play the course regularly, this probably isn't such a big deal but being located about 45 mins from my home, that isn't going to happen in my case. I have one other criticism although it didn't affect my rating at all. Course guys - What's up with the practice green? There were no holes whatsoever, just a bunch of flags perched on little stands. Great for lagging puts but not for practicing those shorter ones. Very strange! read more

Chicopee Woods is an excellent course; all three 9's are fun and challenging. The staff has kept the course in excellent condition, both winter and summer. However, the on-course staff are just clueless about respect for the players - who are, after all, their paying customers. Time after time they disrupt play, becoming an annoying distraction to an otherwise enjoyable round. The course would rate much higher if this wasn't so common.... read more

Quite large golf course with 9 holes each in 3 different course. I got free sausage egg biscuit from the cafeteria from elder asian couple running it. Gift shop was small but had many variety products but mainly with the golf course logo imprinted. Staffs were very kind and riding in golf cart was much fun. read more

There are literally dozens of choices to play between Gainesville and Atlanta. This course is in the best condition of them all. Do not play here on a Sunday. There is some kind of money game played by the locals and they treat each putt like it's worth a billion dollars. Seriously. They mark, line up, plumb bob two foot putts. Not a Marshall in sight all day. Closing in on a five hour round. Completely unacceptable. read more

The course is great. It was well maintained and a pleasure to play. Price was good for a Saturday as well. The ground crew should be commended. Only reason it's not 4 or 5 stars is the employees (aside from the pro shop, he was pleasant) have zero personal skills. We had 2 groups, 6 people. They called us a few minutes early to the starter shack, which was fine, but the older guy running started griping that everyone was late as soon as we pulled up. Then he and the ranger complained that we had 2 groups of 3 and that it tied up too many of his golf carts (of which at least 2 dozen had been lined up for awhile). The ranger also confronted one of our golfers and yelled that he drove out of the 90 degree, which he didn't and then berated him for a minute. After that, he then complained to me that our golfer was an alcoholic. Extremely unprofessional. (Our golfer had drank some beers bought from their own beer carts). I'd love to go back, but not until a staff change. read more

5 stars for the ProShop Staff, pleasant, helpful, genuine....4 stars for the course....tee box grass is higher than anywhere I have ever played...ball in the rough...take entire foursome to comb the thick rough. Blind tee shots on 70% of the course...buy their book or use a golf app. 1 Star....worse tee time management I have ever seen. Booked via Golfnow...was under the impression I was in a group...on 5 different occasions that group was sent early or they paired someone else with them, bottom line I was left as a single and was then invited to play by myself. This course cannot be played as a single...unless your ball is chipped with a location finder....and your willing to wait on the foursome in front of you on every shot.
