Hole #14 - par 3.
Edward I.

A fantastic course. The course is in wonderful condition. The front 9 and the back 9 are entirely different. The front 9 has a northern course feel with tree lined fairways and lots of hills. The back 9 is a lot more wide open and relatively flat. The clubhouse is nice and the driving range is excellent. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Can't beat the price too. Recommended.

Unacceptable Customer Service - Rude, Discriminatory Behavior…read more If I could give zero stars, I would. I had the absolute worst customer service experience at Lanier Legacy Golf Club, and it was nothing short of humiliating and infuriating. On March 8th, I booked a 3:00 PM tee time for my wife and her sister. Due to heavy rain, I called the pro shop, and a kind and professional male staff member issued an 18-hole rain check, which I appreciated. However, when I called today to use that rain check, I was met with the most unprofessional, rude, and outright hostile treatment from a staff member named Leah Stephenson (spelling may be incorrect). From the moment she picked up the phone, she was aggressive, dismissive, and condescending. She: Constantly interrupted me while I was speaking. Raised her voice at me for absolutely no reason. Refused to listen or assist me properly and instead transferred my call without helping. Treated me with an attitude that felt blatantly discriminatory. It's truly disgusting that a golf course with such a good reputation allows this kind of horrible customer service to take place. I couldn't help but feel that I was treated this way because I am Asian and an international guest. This was my first experience with this level of rudeness and discrimination since moving to Atlanta, and I am still in shock that a business like this allows such behavior to continue unchecked. If Lanier Legacy Golf Club actually cares about its reputation, they need to: Implement serious customer service training so this NEVER happens again. Ensure all guests--regardless of nationality--are treated with basic human decency. I will make sure that everyone I know hears about this disgraceful experience. I will also be reporting this incident to management and any relevant authorities to ensure this club is held accountable for discriminatory and unprofessional practices. Avoid this place if you expect even the bare minimum of respect. If you're not a local, prepare to be treated as if you don't belong.

I don't know how many people use yelp to find a golf course but Lanier Islands Legacy golf course…read moreis definitely one of the best courses in GA. I absolutely love this course. The quality of the course, staff, practice facility, carts, food is A1. First off, I ain't gonna lie it's expensive! But good news is you do get range balls with your greens fees and unlimited snacks/ soft drinks!!!(my favorite). Yes I said unlimited. I'm sure if you go in there and fill bags up with stuff they might say something but you get it. Second off, driving range and putting green = phenomenal. Third off and most important , the course..... is so beautiful. I'm a serious golfer (4 handicap) so my feelings might be different than others. The actual layout of the course is pretty difficult but the scenery is grand. In order to score great on this course you do have to play smart and have a strategy. I suggest to pay attention to everything before swinging! Keep in mind the greens are FAST. Last suggestion, if you're not the best golfer bring lots of balls because there is a ton of water on this course and get some practice in before hand! If you truly play the course a lot of shots will require you to get the ball in the air. Fourth. Besides the snacks and the absolutely beautiful golf course, I LOVE the way they start you out. Basically most courses just give you the keys to the cart and tell you to get. Here, the first hole is a distance away from the clubhouse so when the starter feels as if the tee box is cleared he will explain the course / rules with your group, give you the keys to the cart, and tell you to get on with it. And I absolutely loveeeeee that. It allows your group to be at the tee box without anyone causing distractions.Love it!!! Last time we were out here the course was quite backed up. The Marshall was constantly trying to get the people in front of us moving and he kept stopping by to apologize to us. The quality of service at Lanier is awesome. They truly make you feel special and that's why I love going back and throwing my money at them. This is by far my favorite course I've ever played at in GA and other states. I hope the review was helpful for the one person that might read this ! If you go play, good luck!

Now, I'm reserving a 5th star for when they re-pave the cart paths, and provide us with some sand/soil containers for the carts. Otherwise, love this course! Cheers! RS

The staff made it clear that we were behind schedule by stopping us and talking to us on the second hole which slowed our game down. Seems like they book people close together and it doesn't get people enough time to move between the holes. We had four people and mixed gender so it takes time going to the different spot. There's also a charity sales pitch I'm one of the later holes which even delayed us more. We end up having someone ahead of us we had to wait for us so just felt like we have a question and we will have to wait between the other people so I really feel like they need to spread them out more. Also someone hit that ball close to us and then did not give a warning so it doesn't seem like a good community of golfers here. We had one of the husband's wife joined with the kids and they charged us extra for riders. Grounds are not well maintained so it make putting difficult. It is a very pretty course with the hills but I think the lack of space between and the overall quality of the greens makes it not ideal.

We had a great time at Sugar Hill Golf Club. I'd heard mixed things about this place, from the…read morecourse was in bad shape to the course was in good shape. For us, the course was in good shape. I really enjoyed the layout, for the most part. To me, this is an ideal example of a solid, everyday muni. The course is located in the City of Sugar Hill, a suburb about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta in Gwinnett County. From my home in Midtown, I planned for about a 45 to 60 minute drive to and from the course. For this course, the drive was worth it. I wouldn't mind playing here again. I believe Sugar Hill Golf Club is a true municipal course, meaning it's owned and operated by the City. Off the top of my head, in metro Atlanta, I believe this may be one of the best munis if it continues to be maintained at the same level as when we played it. The tee boxes, fairways, and greens were all in fine condition. They were about as good as one can reasonably expect for a course in this price range. For a Saturday morning tee time with no discounts, we paid $57 per person for 18 holes including cart. Most other public courses in metro Atlanta charge more than that. I typically expect to spend $70-80 for a weekend morning round, 18 holes with cart, so Sugar Hill's $57 was a great value to me. You can book tee times online through Sugar Hill Golf Club's website. However, you have to pay a small fee upfront. At least, that was the case for me when I was looking for tee times. Sugar Hill used GolfNow for its online booking platform. GolfNow charges convenience fees and makes you prepay a small amount. To avoid this, I recommend calling the golf shop to book. That's what I did. I spoke with Audrey and she took care of me. At the golf shop, Mike checked me in. I noticed my receipt said "Non-Resident." On the course's website as of 5/16/2023, you can pay resident rates "with purchase of Resident Card." On a busy Saturday afternoon, the pace of play was fine. We had a foursome. Due to some morning backup, we teed off 10 minutes later than our assigned tee time. Not a big deal. We teed off at 12:00pm and were done by 4:50pm. Standard pace I'd say for a weekend round on a public course. We never felt slowed down nor did we hold up the group behind us. For our group, it was a comfortable pace. Sugar Hill Golf Club opened in 1992 and was designed by Willard Byrd and Nai Chung Chang, according to GolfNow. Byrd designed one of the courses I grew up playing and still play at frequently: Willow Creek at High Point Country Club in High Point, North Carolina. Byrd also designed the course at Atlanta Country Club in Marietta. Chang co-designed the courses at Ansley Golf Club in Midtown and Dunwoody Country Club. Like a lot of courses in north metro Atlanta, Sugar Hill's course is cut into a nice tract of land in the foothills of the North Georgia mountains. So, expect plenty of elevation changes. A lot of courses in the South, outside of Florida and the coast, are already fairly hilly. This course, even more so. The hills provide for some beautiful scenery and backdrops. Something else I like about this course are all the presumably man-made ponds. There are five scattered throughout the course, which really add to the views, not to mention shot selection. The course isn't super long, but it does provide a "full" 18-hole experience. From the tips (blue tees), the length is 6,522 yards with rating/slope of 71.6/140. We played one set of tees in (white) at 5,911 yards and 69.1/129 rating/slope. Based on slope and my experience here, I consider this course to be slightly above average in difficulty. Due to the water, a decent amount of bunkers (but not a whole lot), and a lot of undulations, you will face many shot scenarios with little room for error. There are several forced carries, off tees and to greens. There may be a couple instances where you hit a great drive only to encounter a side/down/uphill lie in the fairway, making for a challenging approach shot, especially if it's one of the aforementioned forced carries. All that said, it's part of the fun. The greens were big, smooth, and rolled true. The practice facilities are adequate. During our visit, the range was mats only. I guesstimate the range can accommodate up to 15 people. They have a Range Servant and you can pay at the machine. No need to go inside the golf shop just for range balls. There are separate practice greens for chipping and bunker shots, and putting. The practice bunker is a plus. There was a food and beverage cart on the course as well as a marshal. The carts we had were older and more worn Yamaha Fuel Injection carts (not electric). No GPS. The clubhouse is sizable, though the golf shop is small. There is a bar and grill with a deck that overlooks the practice putting green and into the foothills. I was excited to see what appeared to be an air blower to clean my golf shoes, located in between the clubhouse and range, but it didn't work, unfortunately.

We waited on the grounds keeper to cut the greens on almost every hole on the back 9 just to watch him turn the sprinklers on immediately after! The greens were just aerated so they were hard to put as it was. Crazy thing was the forecast called for rain the next 2 days. I will say that the superintendent was really nice and apologized multiple times and even offered a rain check to all 3 of us. He was really nice but the reason I'm leaving the review is because the guy a the pro shop was so rude. I just don't understand why he couldn't just show some gratitude. We tried talking to him and being nice but he was just not having it. It was our 1st time playing there and it left a terrible taste in our mouths. So the guy in the clubhouse, making us wait to tee off, sprinklers on the back 9 sort of threw off our timing. It's kind of sad though because the course seemed nice and challenging (and 10 mins from me house) but I'll never go back. I just can't get over the very 1st interaction of the guy working the clubhouse. It was a terrible way to start a fun day. How hard is it to smile and appreciate your business?

The course was in need of some upgrading under the old ownership and that is still the case under the new owners. You can see where they are painting the Clubhouse and getting some sand added to the traps. There are a two greens that are near impossible to putt on making our groups take automatic 2 putts. Course maintenance is sorely lacking due to the low points in the fairways and most sand traps being full of leaves and piles of sand. At this point it is not worth anywhere near the one hundred dollar green fee. The cart paths will rattle you're brain. Everyone that we came in contact with was very hospitable. The bar and table service was excellent for our group. The guys cleaning and taking our golf clubs to the bag drop were excellent as well. Hope they get it together for next year.

They have a private bridal suite in the women's locker room ground level and a men's locker room upstairs. The decor is elegant and perfect for mood lighting. The food was amazing! The chef knows what he's doing and has such good recipes. You must go with the Asian steak. The lemon drops from the bar are excellent as well. We got beautiful lakeside photos and got to ride around in golf carts and my husband never drove one before so that was a journey. The wild rice pilaf, Asian steak & gorgonzola salad were my favorites. We also had salmon, rolls, and prime rib on our menu and mixed veggies and scalloped potatoes. Plus apps like beef wellington, crab cakes and coconut shrimp. Literally everyone was talking about the food (in a good way) If you're unsure about this place, hit me up and I can show you more pics or give more info but this was an excellent decision for us.
