I really enjoyed this event! It's outside with a beautiful view. There are probably 300 other people with you. The food was decent and the entertainment was great. The staff is very on their game. Not only are they kind and helpful to the guests- but you can see them laughing and joking with each other behind the scenes- everyone looks like they enjoy their jobs. Chief is a very hard working man! He's in every single group's photo op at the entry to the event- then he MC's, sings and fire-dances! Awesome Luau! I researched a lot of Luau's on Oahu and found this one to be highly recommended. It definitely did not disappoint! We had a group of 10 people and everyone had a great time! We looked around for luaus and decided on this one since it had such great reviews on Yelp. We bought tickets online 5 minutes before the show started, but so glad we did! Before the luau started we got to make headbands and participate in hula lessons. The show was great! The Chief was so funny and made the experience fun! We loved that he shared his personal experiences and it felt really genuine. The singing, dancing, and skits were fantastic. The performers and crew were really nice as well! This was our first trip to Hawaii and we're glad we started our trip with the luau. We are recommending this luau to everyone going to Hawaii! read more

My sister and I went to Chief's Luau while visiting in Waikiki. The transportation from the Hyatt back and forth was extremely convenient and our friend "K" was amazingly funny and down to earth - great company for the bus ride. The activities - weaving with coconut leaves were fun and I actually wish there was more of that vs commentary. The food was good - pig, noodles, salad, dinner rolls especially when you factor in that there was 400-500 of us to feed. The dancing was amazing and the fire dancers were the best part of the show at the end. If there was a little less commentary, more dancing, more activities this would have been ~4.5+ stars. read more

Chiefs luau was great. Everyone was super friendly and made us all feel welcome. We were even part of the show when we got up there to commemorate our 46 years of marriage. Warning! Tourist Trap! This place was such a disappointment I can't believe we wasted so much money on it. We showed up, having paid to also visit the park, and were told we had to exit the park by a certain time to re-enter for the Luau. What they didn't tell us was there would be a 45 minute wait before actually getting to go in. We had small kids... it was insane. We waited in the heat, in a long, slow moving line, then waited again to get back in to the park, then waited again to get into the Luau, then waited AGAIN to get to our table. I don't understand why we wouldn't just stay in the park, and check in AT the luau. All the activities felt really fake and silly... like the kind of thing they do to make sure the tourists are having fun, but it involves , again long lines, and felt more like a cheap way to try and keep everyone entertained than anything else. Drinks were crazy expensive and the food was pretty bad. My son actually got sick that night from it. :( We did enjoy the show, which I think is the only reason people love this place. The MC is fantastic and the dancers are very talented. But to get me recommending it they need a LOT of work on pretty much every other aspect. read more

Booked the "Paradise" seating package with RT bus transportation to the luau. Bus was on-time and our bus escort, Cousin Pua informed our bus riders the upcoming program and activities. The Paradise section is center back of the stage. Royal is center front. And Aloha are both sides. We received dinner plus 2 drink tickets. Dinner was great - something for everyone. But the show was even better. Singing, island dancing, and fire sword twirling. Chief was a perfect host - gracious, witty, talented musician, and singer. The new location (Wet n Wild) is perfect, despite westbound traffic (just plan that accordingly). Chief's Luau brings first-class entertainment. It is the PERFECT combo of a professional stand-up act with traditional Pacific Islander music, dance, fire twirling, and educational information. The interaction with the crowd is second to none. Chief Sielu will have you laughing from pre-show to finale; and the "wow" factor of the Ohana performances - from any seat in the intimate theater setting - is superb. The quality, abundance and variety of food is better than ever, far better than any of the other luaus. And the supporting staff (greeters, customer service, etc.) is professional and focused on your personal comfort and enjoyment. We did not come by bus, but the group transportation seemed flawless, well organized and efficient. And Fun! Groups seemed to adore and applaud their bus drivers! We've been to several luaus on Maui and Oahu and it seems like a tradition for us to go to another one every time we visit Hawaii. This time we went to Chief's Luau which has been running at Sea Life Park for 5 years. The location is beautiful, just past the Blowhole. With the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other, you just can't ask for a better location. The "Chief" runs the show and he's a funny, yet spiritual and sentimental guy. There are the requisite "hula lessons", make-your-own braided headbands, etc. The show was very good, lively and entertaining. The fire dancers were really great. The Chief also sang a Hawaiian Happy birthday to celebrants, then called up honeymooners and those celebrating anniversaries - which was my husband and myself! He sang "The Hawaiian Wedding Song" and each wife was given a lovely spray of Hawaiian flowers. A very sweet touch. It started raining during the show and the workers passed out plastic ponchos! This luau was probably the least expensive of all the others and it was probably because of the food. It was pretty mediocre. Plain romaine lettuce, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots. Mystery chicken, rice, pineapple (cut off the core!), and really dry, tough fish. But the Kalua Pork was great! I guess if you want a cheaper luau to go to with family-style entertainment, Chief's is the place to go. We were still hungry, so we went to Zippy's for a snack. read more

This is by far the best luau I have been to. I've only been to other two, but I can't imagine any other being more entertaining. Chief is hilarious and very entertaining throughout the night. Some of the jokes told by Chief may be inappropriate for kids, but then again, this was the only thing my teenager really enjoyed during our trip. Teenagers know lot more than we think they know. Younger children don't get the jokes so no harm done. If you're going for the food, I recommend another luau because food was just so so. It's a night of great entertainment you don't want to miss. read more

LOVED this. Went in with somewhat low expectations as I usually find the more tourist-y stuff to be cheesy, but I thought this was really superb. Chief, the emcee and actual chief from the jungle, was FUNNY, charming, entertaining and everything you could want out of a luau. Food was great, free drink was included and the entertainment...wow. Really beautiful setting overlooking the ocean and a full moon backdrop at the end. Great for couples and certainly something I would do again despite this being one of the more expensive things we did while on the island. GO GO GO! read more

Ehhhh I was super pumped for my first luau and this one is pretty good...but I don't think luaus are that great. Too hokey/improv/audience participation/touristy, etc...but: this one had fun activities to start (make your own Palm leaf crown, fake tattoos, spear throwing contests, etc.) and the entertainment was clearly good and showed a lot of talent and enthusiasm. Food not terrible, drinks pretty strong, and setting is ridiculously awesome (once you get past the Sea Life Park stuff). Bring hoodies - we were cold up on that hill, but views/setting worth it. Overall, not a bad first luau...but luaus just must not be my thing. Also, $5 for parking sucks when you pay that much to go...but I'll stop complaining and be glad that my first luau was at least a high-quality one! read more

We went this past Sunday and it rained. Oh well. They can't control the weather but they did provide some ponchos for everyone. We got there and check in was quite easy. My cousin booked our reservations online. We got the aloha package which comes with one adult beverage and admission to the show. We've all been to luau's before and just wanted to play tourist for the night. Food was okay but I was kind of sad they ran out of lomi salmon. The chief was funny. Enjoyed watching the dancers and they even brought up two of my cousins. Overall this was my first luau that I got rained on but I had fun. You just have to make the most out of every situation. read more

I've been to Jermaine's Luau and the Polynesian Cultural Center. The Chief's Luau was my favorite over all! The view, the games, craft booths and performances were the best! The Chief is HILARIOUS! The evening ran so smoothly and seemed to go by so fast. We were entertained from start to finish. My only gripe would be that the "luau" buffet didn't offer many of the traditional Hawaiian luau options like lomi lomi salmon, poi, lau lau or haupia. Otherwise, the menu items they did provide were delightful, especially the kalua pork and ample fresh pineapple. We will be sure to recommend the Chief's luau to all we know! Mahalo! read more

Very good luau, excellent venue, smaller crowd, food was good, show was spectacular and local vendors on site. My only negative comment is paying for VIP seats & table service --- seats were great service not so much. They served us salad & dinner then never came back to offer drinks, dessert or clear the table. Save your money & go through the buffet line. read more

The chief is hilarious! He was a wonderful entertainer and so fun to watch. The dancers were incredible. My 3 &1/2 year old daughter danced on stage for everyone! It was an unforgettable experience. The food could be a little better quality but it was authentic. It is on the east side of the island with a gorgeous backdrop of Makapu'u Lighthouse and cliffs, the mountains, the ocean, and two islands. Just beautiful without the crowds & traffic of downtown and Waikiki. So mellow and fun! We also got to see the dolphins, sea lions, sharks, and sea turtles. I'm so glad we did it! And if anyone got a video of a little girl dancing on May 22, 2013 I would love a copy! read more

This is a great Luau, but it is really long! If you get picked up by bus, you will be gone from your hotel for 7-8 hours!! The food was great, the pre show activities were fun, and the show itself was good. There's just lots of 'down time' in the middle that was annoying. And there is a little bit of content in the show that is kind of boring. But overall, you and your kids will love this activity! The "chief" really is amazing and you will be stunned by some of the things he does! read more

I have to agree with a lot of yelper's. The food sucked but the entertainment was amazing. If I could I would give 3.5 stars but I'm rounding up because of the chief!! He made the life so memorable. He made you feel like you were real family and included so many people from the audience. He was absolutely hillarious. I really liked that the location too. We got to see quite a bit of fish and turtles walking around before the dinner started. The scenery was beautiful. The fire show was amazing. I loved how they threw the fire battons into the audience. The food really did suck though. The pork was bad, salad was mediocre, rice was bad, and mai tai's were bad. The cake was the best part. What a wonderful experience, like some other reviews wasn't sure about the place but it was a first class show, with 1st class people, I was hoping our small birthday party would enjoy it and 4 of the 5 of us had been to a much bigger fancier one but it was not like The Chiefs Luau. He connected with the people and there was not a bad seat in the place and the view with the sun setting is beautiful and there are side things to do when you arrive to help pass the time and also to learn. Very interactive if you want to participate. We bought the best package and so sat up front and we were served our meal but also encouraged to go to the buffet for seconds. The only reason I didn't give it 5 star was we were served on cheap styrofoam plates with thin napkins and the drinks were not the best. But we would definitely recommend it and go back again. read more

First luau in Hawaii. Very good. Had paradise seating, the view was great, the food was good, the show was wonderful. Would recommend it to anyone! Not corny, or kitchy. Overall the luau was great. High points on the entertainment, the chief was awesome, really knew how to entertain the crowd. He's very proud of his culture and heritage and that shines thru during the show. Many of the performers had tribal tattoos done the old fashioned way, true dedication to passing on traditions to the current generation. The food was ok, then again you're not going for the food. We had seats right in front, we were so close we could feel the heat from the flames during the fire show. The fire show in and of itself was impressive, one of the world champions performed. They recognized all the honeymooners and anniversary couples,which was very sweet. Before the show they have woven headbands and hats for sale, which were gorgeous. I would definitely recommend for someone looking for an authentic show that keeps the culture alive. read more

This was amazing. I was concerned that it was overpriced and going to be cheesy. Now that we've experienced it, it is quite obvious how expensive it is to put on a show and meal like that, and we got so much for our money (gold package: 2 leis, reeded headbands, bird of paradise cut flowers, all you can eat meal, 3 drinks (alcoholic or pineapple juice), brief tour of aquarium, table service, the show (male dancing, female dancing, singing, band, fire play), and roundtrip transportation from Waikiki. It was amazing and I will tell anyone I know headed to Hawaii to check it out and go large. read more
