I'm so sorry to have to give it one star, but it was such a disappointment. --- If this is TLDR for you: Pros: covid safe, friendly staff Cons: incredibly short show (not even an hour), food absolutely horrible (all in our group is sick), just mediocre overall. --- The pros I'll give them is they have tried and overall did a great job to be COVID safe. They have thought of good ways to alert the servers of anything you need (two different colored tea lights, one for food and one for drinks), spaced out tables and friendly employees. But where they get one star is the food and the show. There were a total of seven of us and all seven of us are sick after the food. The fish they served was soggy, nothing was hot or even luke warm... Well the salad they had sitting out on the tables when you arrive was probably the warmest food item. We chose this luau because Chief's has been around a long time and wanted to try it.... Really wish we had skipped a luau all together and just gone to a nice restaurant for dinner in Waikiki or North Shore instead. read more

Looks and sounds kitschy and cheap but it's far from it. It's a fantastic show with a nice mixture of culture from across Polynesia with amazing dancers and ending with some amazing fire dancing. The chief himself is an amazing MC and makes the whole thing fun and enjoyable. For a mass produced luau as well the food is fantastic, very tasty and all you can eat. The only thing I might ding them on is that the initial activities are a bit odd. Other than that I can't think of a better luau experience on Waikiki. read more

Awesome time, a lot of fun! It was a cultural experience in the history of all the Hawaiian Islands with some comedy by the chief ( who is a real chief) they had a roasted pig , chicken, an awesome fish and all the other stuff (i just wanted MEAT) it was all very good but being there were over 400 people it was a bit cool but still good. This was my first luau experience and I was totally impressed with the fire dancers. The male dancers were totally into the dance and show and really impressed us with the fire dancing skills. Big Chief was funny in a womanizer kinda way. You can tell he runs the show and has been doing this for a long time. The seating and packages are tiered based on section, lei, and drink quantities. The people in the front row gained extras and received more attention. All tickets offered activities before the show including a palm leaf head dress, fresh coconut, and spray on tattoo. It totally dumped rain the whole way there and during check in. They run the show rain or shine and offered us ponchos. It's not covered and yes our dinner was wet. The food was decent but not fresh. It had been catered in and was most likely frozen from the main land. We were not impressed with the food and I ended up with a stomach ache. (No one else in our party got a stomach ache) Last note. It's pretty dark once the sun sets. They do not have full lighting and it's pretty easy to loose your stuff there. They asked us to bring sweaters but even with the rain it was much too warm to wear one. My denim jacked got left behind which was a total bummer. We picked this luau because it was one of the highest rated for the best price. We stayed in Ko' Olina, just a couple of miles away. There is also the Paradise Cove luau even closer to our resort, but after comparing the two, I felt that Chief's Luau gave more value for the price. We got the mid-range package. While the seats were not as close, we could definitely see. We got our food right after the higher priced package. The food was abundant and really tasty. I read some reviews of various luaus where the food ran out, but not the case here. The show was nice. Our daughter had a chance to go on stage and shake her booty. There was definitely a focus on love and family. I danced with my hubby. It was cool to see the different dances from the various islands. I was impressed by the fire show, which started with a fire that the Chief started from scratch. Since we stayed nearby, we drove to the luau, which is at Wet n' Wild waterpark. Just got home from chiefs and it was amazing! An adventure and fun starting when you get on the bus! We had picked a different one at first on the beach but decided to change it last minute and there are no regrets! Just make sure you go pee before you get on the bus! Almost peed our pants but that was part of the fun! (40 min ride with traffic) Show and food... amazing! We were laughing and loving every moment! Especially with that full moon glowing on us during the show making it extra special! We took care of our bar tender and he made sure we were happy and appreciated it so bring xtra cash and take care of the employees and they will make sure your happy! Food was great! Everything was juicy and perfect! Chief is hilarious and I think that's what made the show so perfect the non stop laughing! Chiefs luau is the only luau on the island worth going to imo. We went through wyndham. Our bus host was K and he was awesome! He wasnt like most bus tour guides. He was very personable. We even connected over the recent losses of our grandmothers. He was just a very genuine person. The luau was amazing! My husband was really impressed with the fire dances. Okay, so this was my second time ever going to a Luau and the only other one I have been to is the Old Lahaina Luau in Maui (which is literally amazing and beautiful - beach side!!!). But, this is a different island and they obviously have different luaus. The food here is excellent. Like most luaus, there was an AYCE buffet that had various proteins - fish, chicken, and kalua pork. All were pretty good, but the pork stood out! Thankfully like a quarter of my plate was the kalua pork so I didn't need to get up for a second round. LOL. I paid for the Paradise level, which included two drinks. I got two Mai Tais. They were okay, not sure they were strong enough and they were pretty small. The show itself was awesome. Our host Chief was really funny. He shred some history and story telling with jokes. The dancers were all so talented and not bad to look at either. You can tell they are passionate about what they do! You must make sure you catch the fire knives! Highlight of my evening! The activities before the show were nice. Some of the workers hosting the activities did seem kind of annoyed, which threw off my Aloha spirit a bit. I liked the palm leaf crowns we made. One of the biggest regrets I had was upgrading to the paradise level. I think people who had the cheapest tickets may have had better seats than us. Most of our section was literally at the back of the venue. Were we center stage? Yes. But were we far? Yes too! Not worth the upgrade for far seats and lousy Mai Tais. Overall, awesome experience. We had a wonderful time. Food was good, the pork was seasoned well, moist and flavorful. The staff was pleasant and welcoming and the show was a lot of fun. The fire dancing was some of the best I've seen. Yes it is attached to the water park so there is some distraction in that but only while entering or going to the restroom and buffet. It was minor. It is a tourist focused luau so there are some hokey things and yes they take pics and want to sell them to you, but that's all part of the fun imho. read more

After researching for months on which luau to attend, we chose Chiefs. We definitely made the right choice. The food was good, but the show was even better. Chief was funny (some adult humor that kids wouldn't catch on too), he was entertaining and thoughtful and it was very interactive. He is such a charming and thoughtful host, at one point, I was emotional when he was talking about his parents and life and love and being thankful for each day! The fire dancing was amazing too! The transportation to and from was top notch. Cousin Isiah Mofie was the best and super entertaining and informative. He genuinely wants everyone to enjoy themselves. The drive there is about 50 minutes but it fits the feel that way bc of how awesome Isiah is! If you are blessed to get to Hawaii, this is def the luau to go to. We got the paradise package and the seats were great and not far away, we could see everything being in the middle. We had an absolutely amazing time at the Luau!!!!! The evening starts with walking through Sea Life Park and getting to look at some beautiful Sea Turtles, my favorite! We received leis and got to take a photo with the Chief himself. There were several activities and games that kept guests entertained while they got everyone to their seats. Dinner starts with the conch blowing and the unwrapping of the pig, our dinner, which had been cooking all day. They sent us off by table to the dinner buffet which consisted of Lomi Salmon, teriyaki chicken, rice, Kalua pork, and more. The food was AMAZING! Even more amazing was the show. I loved how they showcased each of the different islands of the pacific and showed the different styles of Hula. My favorite of corse was the fire knife dance! Finding the right luau was an interesting experience. I'm already semi-Pacific Islander myself, so I didn't want to go to something that would make a spectacle of the Pacific Islander culture. But, I also knew it was part of the Hawaii experience, and ideally our money would be going to people who are actually local. We knew about the Polynesian Cultural Center as being one of the big luaus around, but it felt shady that it's actually funded by the Mormon church and thus there's no alcohol there. As a guy we met on our trip told us, it was like "Disney World", and I think he meant it in a bad way. So we booked a night at Chief's, along with shuttle transportation from our Honolulu hotel. So, first impressions aren't great. The ride is kind of long, and the luau is actually adjacent to a water park (hence the Wet n Wild). Then as people file in, they have a little area where you can buy drinks, try coconut, or buy stuff from vendors. This part was ok, but man the mai tais they serve up pack a helluva punch. Next comes the buffet, which wasn't too bad. I chuckled at the people who were afraid to try things, but I filled up my plate and went back for more later. I mean, it's a buffet, you're meant to try new things. I enjoyed the fresh pork, barbecue sauced chicken, and especially the taro rolls. We really got our money's worth when the main show started, which also signals the end of the buffet. Chief Sielu Avea brings the right mix of knowledge, charisma, and tongue in cheek humor that had us laughing the whole night. The show was super energetic, and luckily I convinced my wife to go on stage when they asked for newlyweds to do so. The only downside is that because we booked late, the cheaper seats were sold out and we had to fork out for the next tier up, which doesn't get you much other than two free drinks - not really worth the $30, but not too painful. For any visitors, definitely block out one of your nights to check this show out. Sure, it's a little cheesy, but that doesn't matter if you still have a great time. read more

The Chief was very funny and included a wonderful tribute to newly weds and people who were celebrating anniversaries. It was touching and unexpected to be reminded of the importance of celebrating those we love. Really great experience! The location of the luau is at a water park. The only struggle we had was that with my mother in law's limited mobility, we had great difficulty maneuvering from tables to buffet and the restrooms were not clean or nearby.. Went to the Luau on Easter Sunday which was a Good Size Group. Plenty of Free Parking and get there early to enjoy Fire Making by Hand and Palm Tree Head Band Making before the Show. The Buffet Food was Tasty and the Pulled Pork, Mahi-Mahi, Baked Chicken with Sauce was Delicious. They served Taro Bread when adding Butter was Good. Fried Noodles with Veggies Rounded out the Meal with Pineapple and Mochi for Dessert. Chief Sielu was Definitely the Star of this Show with His Humor and Honest Charm on Display. It's an Out Door Setting and Most Days Here on Island is comfy but bring a Light Sweater or Wind Breaker just in case of a Slight Breese or Mist of Rain. This is my first luau so I don't really have anything to compare it to....so take that into account when reading my review. The Bad The food was sub par overall...probably slightly worse than your average hawaiian fast food joint....in Los Angeles The cash bar was pretty weak as they had a really limited and rather crappy selection. The Good The luau is at the Sea Life park which is a pretty cool location since there is a beautiful ocean backdrop and you can check out a couple of dolphins and sea turtles they have in the nearby tanks. If you were planning to go to the Sea Life park you can plan to go to the luau afterwards and save yourself a drive. From what i gathered, this is a smaller than average Luau which is both good and bad. The bad is that it might not be as lively or extravagant but the good is that even if you got the cheapest seats in the back you still have a very good view of the show. The fire dance was more awesome than I expected :) The main selling point of this luau was The Chief himself, the host of the luau really was quite funny and to be honest I'm not really into the luau activities and the cultural dances...The Chief's humor not only made the experience bearable it actually made it ENJOYABLE! Overall I did enjoy the luau as you really get this vibe of down home sincerity and charm from the cast and not some hokey commercialized fluff. read more

It's a great time. We did a lot of research before we booked with Chief's Luau and found that this one is the highest rated. We opted for the shuttle to pick up up from the hotel which was an additional $25. Our guide (forgot his name) but was great. He was a younger gentleman who had funny jokes and kept us entertained throughout the bus ride there and back. The food was a 2.5 out of 5. Nothing special but we also didn't go there for the food. We booked the middle package (not the entry level and not the crazy expensive one) and our seats were perfect. Everyone should book this one. We also opted for the take home picture in the custom frame. Entertainment was exactly what you'll see on YouTube if you look it up. The jokes were the same and the performance was the same. You'd think it would be kind of lame after watching it on YouTube but it's much different when you're there.....after drinking mai thai's. We didn't have enough one to go to any other luaus but definitely make sure to go to Chief's luau if you're on Oahu. read more

This was a super disappointing experience for me and a group of friends. We decided on this luau because of the reviews here on Yelp & I don't understand how highly rated this luau was for so many people! I'll just list down a few things to note for people that are on the fence about this luau... 1. Extremely overpriced at $164 a ticket. 2. The venue, as many here mentioned, is at a wet n wild park, which was fine, but the seating arrangement was a bit cramped & our table was wet upon arrival. 3. The seats were very uncomfortable & cheap. I've sat at backyard parties with better seats and table for guests. 4. Not a big deal, but their website said that you get lei'd and put on a crown upon arrival, but they were just laid out on the table where we sat, so that was a bit of a let down. 5. You only a get two drink tickets, which was fine, but they only had one option for mixed alcohol (Mai tai)... so if you're not fond of rum, then you're out luck. They charge $30 for their "better" options. 6. The AYCE food was sooo bad. I witnessed people from my table leave after the food because they didn't look like they enjoyed it at all. The food was so cheap; it was disappointing they didn't serve better options (i.e. poke, spam musubi, macaroni salad, chicken katsu). My sorority in college held so many luaus with better food options... 7. If you end up driving, they will charge you $9 upon arrival... and for what?? There's plenty of parking spaces, it's a literal amusement park. This was when my group realized they will milk out money from tourists as much as they can. It costs $200 for their transportation service (with GA admission) & that seemed like an even worse option considering the drop offs at all of the hotels. 8. Pictures that you take beforehand are $30 for purchase... this doesn't make sense for them to charge this either because it costs less than a dollar to print a photo & they would just throw them away anyway if guests don't purchase them. It's sad that they print them out already & dare charge visitors so much. 9. The show was the best out of the experience, but it wasn't worth a $160 ticket though. The men were out of sync & I found it to be distracting from the performance. 10. The chief made a few sexual jokes, which was weird considering there were kids in the audience. He also brought out his family and had the audience pay tribute to them, which (not to sound insensitive) was odd because it made us feel like we were at a family gathering instead of a luau. 11. There was lack of overall interactive activities, which I thought was normal for a luau... they brought out married couples to the stage & it felt like 95% of the audience were left out & had to watch them dance for 10 minutes. My friends & I thought they were stalling to add onto the time of performance honestly. I wish they would have had games or fun activities for their guests to enjoy; instead, they encouraged us to head over to the bar & grab more alcohol. If you do want to book a luau, don't be like me & my friends... we felt like suckers & I 100% believe most of the guests with us felt that too. Do better chief's luau! read more

I've been to a few Luaus and this one is by far one of my favorite ones. This Luau is located inside the SeaLife Park. There is alot of parking available. I would advise to wear something tropical/festive! Everyone here is sincere. Great service. There is a free pass ticket for the bar. the all you can eat buffet is OK. There is a long line so please be sure to get in line as soon as possible. I've never been a huge fan of luau food. I think the show/presentation was 10/10. They do invite volunteers to get on stage and perform! I really like the involvement of the luau. The dancers are absolutely great. I think this is a good family outing. read more

We went to this Luau on a Sunday evening. Got there at 5pm. We took Lyft to get to the event. It is about 25 - 30 minutes away from our hotel which is in Honolulu so this event was more north. This event is a package deal. The more you pay the closer you to the stage and get more drinks. Food is also served which includes salad, entree and dessert. There free drinks that come with this event get a choice of mai Thai, beer and or wine. In the beginning the MC explained the culture of Hawaii, he created a basket from coconut tree leaves, then a few others came on stage to play a few songs for the guests on the guitar. This was the time to eat and drink. Afterwards the main show started and we saw the guys and girls dance and do their rituals on the stage. Then at the end for the grand finale the men juggled with fire which was cool. Overall I thought this was a great experience! Good food and entertainment. Customs and dancing were nice. The MC was a great host and quite funny. I would recommend this Luau to experience while visiting Hawaii! read more

Unfortunately because of the location by power plants the smell annoyed me and I disliked walking in the sand. I think this is a great luau. I came to Oahu on a short mini budget friendly vacation and I wanted a budget friendly but good luau. My friend had found Chief's luau- it had great reviews, good pricing and it was clear that this was the luau we were going to attend. We booked the reservation a day before and it was quick and simple. When we arrived- they were very welcoming and there were a few activities to participate. There were luau dancing, spear throwing and some kind of crafting for head wear. We came late so we didn't really participate lol but that's ok- they still gave me a banana leaf (?) head wear. The "Chief" was the host of the Luau and he was a very entertaining host. He was funny and interactive. To keep this short and simple.. there were plenty of food (and it was good), the entertainment (dances and fire twirling things) were awesome. It was a great atmosphere because it felt very intimate. Arrived 5 mins before check-in time and waited 20 mins to check in. Then another line for taking pictures. Seated under the bright sun, flies every where, and another long waiting line to order drinks yourself (25 minutes under the sun)! The drink you get for free is a mai tai, you pay extra $30 for the better pineapple drink. Arrived at 17:05, finally seated at 18:10.
