Despite the rain, what a great evening! I had researched local luaus available during our long day in port on our cruise. They offered free transportation during a deal in January, when I booked, which was super helpful and only solidified the decision to go to Chief's. The charter bus was easy to find and left right on time. We picked up others (now our family/ohana per Cousin Brian, who was our host from the bus) from local hotels and made our way to the luau. Upon arriving, they immediately handed out ponchos, which were definitely needed. Mostly light rain on and off throughout the evening, but that didn't spoil our time there. They took extra care to dry our seats ahead of initially sitting down at our table and when we returned from the buffet. We were also greeted with a fresh flower lei (booked the Royal Experience). At our seats was a lei po'o waiting for all. They immediately offered us a complimentary drink and a gentleman had fresh coconut ready to try. Just ahead of dinner, the men brought out the roasted pig. A blessing was asked in the native language, and then it was dinner time. All staff were kind and helpful. All of the food was really good, especially the kalua pork, which had a great smoky flavor. I'd dare to say it was better than any pork butts I've ever smoked at home. The men played music and sang while we ate, which we enjoyed. On to the show.... Multiple groups of dancers performed for us, showcasing different cultures, like Samoan and Polynesian. Looked and felt very authentic to me. All performers were awesome and engaged the audience. Chief was great and led the entire evening. The fire dancers were also very cool to watch. All in all, give Chief's Luau a try. You won't be disappointed!
This was such a wonderful show and beautiful experience! So much food and truly entertaining from beginning to end. The story telling and sharing of the culture was a true pleasure and a memorable experience. The fire performances, basket weaving, hula dancing, mixed in with a little sense of humor from the Chief made this a show that I will never forget. The entire staff was welcoming like you were family I valued that so much! The show was over 2 hours and you are well feed it's worth every penny! 10/10 I highly recommend!
We had a great time at the Luau. The performance was spectacular but I thought the food and drinks could have been better. My favorite food was the kaluha pork. They are located in a water park when they are closed. Participate in their on stage performance and you will get a Chief's wrap to take home. All the performers and workers were super friendly and nice.
The show, stage setup, costumes and performers were all top notch. They had men and women performing different dances themed from different countries. Fire twirlers were incredible and the chief keeps things moving with his witty banter, and he is also an incredible singer. The musicians were all very talented and the performers did an awesome job keeping the audience involved. The one thing that could have been improved was the food. If they set the food up somewhere closer to the dining area, your food might still be warm when you get back to your table. The only thing that stayed hot was the chicken. The flavor was ok, but not as seasoned as I would have hoped.
Such a fun experience!!! From the bus ride, to the pre-show activities, to the food, and the performances everything was really enjoyable! Now I'm not going to lie and say this was the best food I've ever had but it was all really nice and it's all you can eat. But what you're really coming for is the show and it was so much fun and you could tell that everyone in it was also enjoying their time performing. I highly recommend checking this out!
I must admit I was nervous when I brought the ticket online. I was like a luau at the water park. But I had my family in town and had to take all 6 of us to a luau before they left. Being that it was 6 of us I needed a luau that was affordable, provided a great experience and wheelchair accessible. This was it and I was able to buy last minute ticket. I had a ticket to Germaine's but it was the day of warning Tsunami and they were closed the next day. It had plenty parking available. Ensure to get there early. I got there 15 mins early and it already had people in line waiting. Before entering you get a show in front of the sign. If you want to capture it after check in stay near the sign. When you enter you can take your family photos to purchase later. After that you will be taken to your seat. There is tattoo artist, vendor selling merchandise, a pre show and music. Now to get your drink you have to go down the stairs. So make sure to have someone with you that can go downstairs or ask a worker to make your drink. Water was free and all other drinks you had to buy. The host was funny and kept us entertained all night. The buffet is to the right when you first come in. It is not in the same area as the seating area. They didn't disappoint everything was good. I highly recommend go check it out.
Ambience: the experience here was beautiful. It was fun, engaging, simply put beautiful. Service was great. Everyone was polite and welcoming. Food: was okay .
As long as I like it no matter what my husband said it was too commercial, I was ok. I understand the high expectation of the show since my husband watched Brady Bruch TV show from decades ago. When we got there the crew were late and we had to wait until the crew arrived to get in with a bit messy on how they organize the check in. Food was not great but I'm okay, I just want to see the show and have some drinks. Grilled crispy whole pork is was just for show. The pork at the dinner was the pork made from an oven. I tried to appreciate food they provide for us but honestly, I would say......yes, it is a commercial show. Mostly tourist coming here for one time experience. My friend who actually live here never come to see this show, but she said her friend suggested it. Overall, it was ok as a onetime thing. Fire show was good and it was a highlight.
I will start with the only positive thing about this place that they do offer military discounts. Just so you know this is located inside of a waterpark and you have to park in their parking lot after the park closes. They have you wait to check in at 5:15 PM, but in reality they don't start checking in until about 5:30 PM. The staff seemed very unorganized and the lines were quite bong. The show was just OK. The restrooms are very dirty. Do not expect to have a nice scenic view since it is inside of a waterpark. They take very long times to get your drinks. The my ties were very terrible. They only offer water and fruit punch as part of your meal which I believe they should have sodas or other options available. There are a lot of Nats while you're eating your meal. The seating is very cramped and just so you know when you order your tickets online it's not to scale with the map that they see online. Just get the cheapest ones because you have plenty of room to see the show. Don't pay that extra VIP experience too much money unless you want to be on the very front of the rope. The buffet lines get very long they do say you can go for seconds or third or unlimited, however by the time you get your food, there's no time to go back because they have finished serving. The food in my opinion was very unacceptable. The bread was dry. The pork was OK. I was just not impressed with the food. It did not taste good at all. We actually left before the show ended. in my opinion do not waste your time with this place. Find another spot that has a nice scenic view.
Really fantastic performances interspersed with comedy and informative bits about the different Polynesian cultures and "how-to" demonstrations. The decorations paid homage to Polynesian cultures and really did a great job of setting the atmosphere. The food was pretty good, the Mai Tais were great, and we enjoyed purchasing a few items at the craft display too. And the staff made you feel like part of the family with their wonderful service. Would definitely recommend for a family.
This is hands down the best Luau. Once you book , they will send you the message on the phone with reminder and directions on how to reach from the previous day. They share the location with a water park and have Lots of parking. They welcome you with lei or necklace made of tiny shells based on your package . Once you enter , they will take you to your assigned seat and you will find nice headbands made of leaves waiting for you on the table ( one for each person) . They start with some fun activities where they ask you to try rubbing stones /woods to ignite a fire and also give you coconut in shell as a welcome appetizer . There are welcome drinks as well . We took Mai Tai . It's was delicious. After some fun small activities, they will direct you to the buffet where you have nice selection of dishes ( noodles , sweet buns , chicken , pulled pork , fish , salads , pineapple cake and fruit -pineapple ) and you can come to your table and they start the performance. Since there are so many people who attend , they will make sure that they tell you when it's turn to get up and get the food. So it's very very organized. They have a nice waterfall and some Tropical trees and plants behind the stage whixh looks very cool and give you the aloha vibe. They perform different types of tribal dance and have a spectacular performance using fire ( which comes at the end ) . In between they will make sure they involve the audience and make them dance along with them and do lot of humorous things which makes it very very different from other Luaus. We were celebrating our 10th anniversary there and they called everyone who were celebrating their special day and played some romantic tribal song and made us dance as well and greeted us with flowers bouquet. They truly made our special day even more special. I would have given 10 stars if I could . Don't miss this if you are visiting Oahu . This is absolutely the best .
This is a must see Luau if you're in Oahu! I was skeptical of all the different Luaus when it came to choosing one, let me tell you I am so happy with our choice to attend this one! I can't say enough great things about this one and the experience.
If you're going for food this is a definite NO. They don't even serve you the pig they show on the stage. It's probably a day old pig- dry. No salt and pepper. Buffet style, cold, and nothing was good. So windy everything was flying off the table including drinks. If you're going for the show: DEFINITELY. The show was fantastic. The chief was funny, great history and stories. The dancers were great. The fire dancers were very professional and champions. Loved the atmosphere of the stage. Had to walk a bit to the bathrooms and bar area. The whole luau is set on the backdrop of the water park. So a bit different. Don't go hungry if you want good food.

I have been to few luau's between this island and the big island. To be honest this is the first time I have walked out learning something new about the native culture and people from a chief. Like don't get me wrong every luau have their own fun things and experience. But the rest are always give you the generic vibes of it's made for tourist. This one was different we came and we enjoyed the music and the little activities before the dinner and the show starting. The dancers and the champions were just amazing and yes telling the story as well keeping the heritage alive and passing it on is something I have been wanting to feel and see and take with me for the rest of my life. Yes they need to have more options for the Gf as well DF people but I was happy to eat rice and salad even tho everyone else was enjoying everything else. Cuz honesty the Chief and everyone else made it special and made you feel you are literally in their village and you are they guest and they are hosting you. I would be for sure go back next time I am in the island. read more

I highly recommend the Chiefs luau, everyone was so friendly and they truly make you feel like family. The location is a bit off putting being in a water park but the stage and location is very pretty. Tue food was very tasty, my favorite being the chicken and dessert. The fish wasn't very good but the Mai ties made up for it. We paid for the paradise package and got great seats, a beautiful headband, and a nut lei. The show was amazing and the fire dancing astonishing. They even offer hotel pick up / drop off which was super nice, the driver and tour guide were very nice and well accommodating. Found recommendations for Chiefs and wow was everyone right! They did an awesome job from entertainment, food, & drinks. The show was unbelievable. We did upgrade to the Royal package and it was worth every penny. Got a fresh flower lei, extra drink tickets and a perfect seat for the show. Had a small group of 6 and no-one was disappointed. I even bought a sweatshirt at the end and it's the most comfortable sweatshirt!! read more

I haven't been to a luau since I was little at the pcc and this was an experience at chiefs luau! Positive: - The entertainment was above and beyond. I love the commentary and humor. Also they do a great job taking you through all the islands with each performance. - Plenty of food so come hungry! - Yes it's at a water park BUT they have it set up really nice with a waterfall, greenery, trees, lights, etc - Affordable Cons: - Since the location is a bit higher, it does get cooler at night and I was not prepped so come with a light jacket especially during the winter season. - The check-in process was a little confusing so just come prepped with your tickets and type of ticket you purchased... and be patient :) Overall, it's a great luau with people that work hard to make it an amazing experience for you. Also if you stay on the west side, this is a short commute vs the majority of the other popular luaus. read more

3.9 stars Food-3.5 it was just okay but not bad for buffet Show- 4.5 super impressive especially the fire dance Venue- 3 we sat by the lights and there were flying insects attacking us and anyone in the lighted area. We ended up standing for the last 30 mins to get to get away from them and had a much better view anyways. The people recoding the entire show were super annoying and blocking our view. The chief though was a great entertainer and so were all the talented dancers! read more
I'm surprised about the 5-star reviews of this luau as I found it to be at most mediocre. I guess my opinion is to make sure you read a good amount of reviews before you make your decision as I think its a mix of good and bad. [[ Location ]] It is really weird that this luau is held in a water park. I believe it is inside the Wet N Wild water park and is held after its closed so the bathrooms are extremely wet from people using them before. I found it really weird to pull up to a waterpark parking lot. Definitely does not scream authentic in this way. Also, after you finish the show and go back to the parking lot, the park is pretty much pitch black and it was hard to see where you were going. They should invest in some temporary lights. [[ The Good ]] 1.) The chief who owns/runs the show is pretty funny. I would say it's "adult" humor which is light enough that kids won't understand but the adults do. I enjoyed his commentary. 2.) The show overall for the small cast of people is good. I enjoyed the various displays of Polynesian culture and the passion and effort each person put into their performances. [[ The Bad ]] 1.) The food is not super good. Yes it's a buffet with a wide amount of options but I would rate it at most a 3/5. Since you are sitting outside, you are also constantly battling with a ton of flies who keep trying to land on your food. They should also invest in better serving trays as it literally is a bunch of plastic/metal trays that you scoop out food like a cheap buffet restaurant. 2.) The transportation price is too high. Each person is $34 round trip to get to and from the luau. The day we went, there was not a lot of people attending the luau so they only had one bus pick up from multiple hotels which delayed the transportation significantly because we were circling around all of Waikiki. P.S. The bus ride is not a silent one and the host will talk the whole ride there and back. They also force you to try to talk to your neighbors. I would categorize myself as a social introvert and I would prefer a silent ride if possible. Happy to listen to some history than be forced to making small talk. [[ Tips for the luau ]] 1.) In my opinion, no need to shell out for any of the expensive packages. The basic "aloha" package is enough if you decide to go. 2.) Although the show is good for what it is, if you go to the Polynesian Culture Center as well, it will blow this out of the water. Since the Mormon church has so much money, they are able to provide an exceptional production value on what they do. read more
When my girlfriend picked this event for one of the days of our trip to Honolulu, I honestly thought we were coming to this show to see the culture of Hawaiians. I didn't expect to be this entertained. After the show was done, I was actually happy that we came. The show was held outdoors, so if you come in during the colder seasons, then I would recommend carrying a jacket or a sweater. The buffet provided that night was warm and delicious ! The hosts / entertainers of the show were lively by making lighthearted jokes and they engaged with the audience well. We had the opportunity to learn how to create fire from twigs (oh, this was hard, I only managed to create smoke then). Some of you who are courageous enough will have the opportunity to go up the stage to do a Hawaiian dance (this was funny and entertaining because learning dance moves and performing them on the spot while being watched by 50 people or so, what could go wrong ?) Overall, if you came to Honolulu to experience Hawaiian culture, then Chief's Luau should definitely be in your top things to do here! It's worth every penny ! read more

10/10 best luau I've ever been to ! We went last night on a MONDAY and the vibe was there ! We were a bit confused driving into a water park but don't worry you're not at the wrong spot haha. Food was amazing being a buffet style except maybe their dessert. As an Asian, the cake was too sweet. But that's my only complaint. Everything else exceeded my expectations. We came after our wedding and bought the tickets for our whole family. Thank you Chief and the team for a wonderful and unforgettable night from my family and I and our little ones. I've been to a few Luaus, and this is the best one. The food is actually decent, and the onstage performance was wonderful. The chief really connected with the crowd and kept the audience interested, with his jokes and his stories. The music, dancing, and fire were phenomenal! What a beautiful show. Warm welcome and great entertainment. The food was amazing very flavorful. The purple potatoes and sweet purple bread were my kids favorite. The chief and dancers did an amazing show. They offer you two free drinks per person. The fire dance in the end was well worth the drive and trip. Definitely recommend this place. Yea it's in a old water park wet n wild, so who cares... they mention that in when you purchase your ticket. For what is worth they did a great job. read more

My first Luau and I had a great time. We arrived a little closer to 6pm so we did not participate with the pre activities. The Chief was a very great story teller and a comedian. The men and women performed really well and were engaging. Everyone was great and hospitable with us. The food was amazing. The Kalua Pork was my favorite, very flavorful and tender. Had a great time here on the Christmas Day!! The show was so amazing. The Chief was funny and the dancer so talented. We booked a package that's includes transportation from Waikiki and the communication about pickup spot and time was great. The bus guide was very informative about the schedule and ticketing process. The package also includes the shell leisure for everybody, food, and drinks for adults only. In my opinion the food and drinks are okay. The taro roll and pineapple chunks my favorite. Overall it's definitely worth it! read more

Attended this back in May. My first experience with my boyfriend. This Luau is located inside the waterpark. The bathroom is shared with the theme park so the floor was wet. The luau was entertaining. The highlight would be the fire dancers. The food is buffet style and tasted ok. Overall, fun experience. read more

Had the BEST time with family and friends at Chief's Luau! Been to the other luaus around (Germaine's, Paradise Cove, PCC, and Halekoa) for fun. Hands down, Chief's has the best entertainment on the West Side that doesn't drag out. Judging by the other reviews, running on Hawaiian time isn't anything new, but the performances alone were worth the wait. The food was pretty good--didn't go there for broke da mouth grindz. Went there for fun, entertainment, and to have a good time. This luau didn't disappoint. Chief and the crew were engaging, friendly, and very personable. The service was awesome--especially the drink service!!! We purchased the Royal package and I feel it was very much worth every penny. Fun for all ages and abilities--no one was left out and THAT is one of the best reasons (of many) to go to Chief's. Chief made everyone feel like ohana/family. read more
We had this luau experience when we went to Oahu last month. This was my first luau and I can't really make comparisons, but I found my experience very delightful and exhilarating - the best way to delve into the Pacific Island/ Polynesian culture if you're in Hawaii. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki and from there we were picked up by a 30-seater bus (or 50? I didn't count) to take us to Wet 'n Wild, a water park in Kapolei, around 25 miles east of Waikiki. While on the bus, our guide was entertaining us with anecdotes, historical facts about the city, and even nice acapella Hawaiian songs. We arrived at the park and I commend the coordinators of this event for being very organized. They got us our kukui nut leis then guided us to the photo shoot area where they had two pretty Hawaiian ladies in grass skirts behind us as they took the photo, in addition to the nice backdrop. We continued on to the dining and stage area - we took the Paradise package so our 30-seater table was right in the middle, just about perfect for us. Chief Sielu was very engaging and quite funny, talented (yes, he sang and played a host of instruments) and indeed a professional host and entertainer. The performances were awesome! I had to stop myself from videoing and taking photos of everything as I wanted to savor each and every presentation. They had several performances from the Polynesian and Pacific Islands - Hula, Tahitian, Haka, Samoan, Fire Dances and several Polynesian island dances I didn't catch :) The best part that was quite heartwarming and made me teary eyed was when the Chief called out the newly-married couples and those celebrating anniversaries to the stage and they danced to the Hawaiian Wedding Song which is one of my favorite wedding tunes. The only downside for me is the food - I wasn't too happy with the taste, all in the menu were quite ordinary. My fault as I had high expectations and anticipated some degree of culinary excellence-- I then later learned that this group offers the best food among the others, so I guess just manage expectations. You're there for the grand experience and not for the food. The Drink Menu, on the other hand was great! We opted to have two rounds each of the very refreshing Pineapple Mai Tai. read more

Chief's Luau was a memorable experience for us, not because of the food, but rather the show and the exceptional fire dancing. The host is famous, incredibly charismatic and absolutely hilarious. He is the star of the show all while providing such a informative history of the islands of Hawaii. The online booking is pretty easy and straight forward. Prices are steep but pretty typical for luaus in general. The price for the standard luau seats for the two of us came out to be $310, not including parking. The drive from Waikiki wasn't too bad for us since we decided to drive ourselves rather than sit in a crowded bus. The venue is located at Wet N Wild, which is quite spacious, but at the same time feels very touristy. The parking lot is huge and doesn't really fill up, so that is one less thing to worry about when attending. The food was lackluster, but edible. I was able to clean a majority of my plate, but mostly because I didn't want my money to go to waste. *The ube bread roll tasted like a dense plain bread roll. *The side salad was so basic, probably came straight from premade mix bag in the grocery aisle. *The chicken thighs were underseasoned but surprisingly juicy. *The pineapple cake icing was too sweet for my taste (and I love sweets). The cake was spongy and light though. *The kalua pork is pretty standard, nothing special. Flavor is bland, missing some salt and pepper. But the meat was soft and tender. *Mai Tais taste like a fruity juice. I'm not 100% convinced that there is actually alcohol in the drinks. The mai tais are good if you like sweet drinks, but if you're looking for a real mai tai, don't expect it here. Instead, go to Monkeypod which is located pretty close to Wet N Wild. Pros: *Fabulous staff, full of character, fun for the family *Show runs on time and incredibly entertaining *Fire dancers!! *Beautiful stage background Cons: *The restrooms are a bit of a ways to walk from the dinner area. *"Activities" inbetween the show consists of just shopping for jewelry and other keepsakes *Weak drinks and mediocre food *Seating is not elevated, so its hard to see the stage unless you're sitting right at the front *Seating is a bit tight. You're pretty much elbow to elbow with people next to you, and sitting in front of a stranger. *Your photo is being sold for $30, already printed and they come to your table to convince you to buy it. Without spoiling too much of the show, I would have to say Chief's Luau offers a great experience. A luau is something you need to do at least once in your life, and Chiefs is a great option. read more
This Luau has everything I wanted, food and entertainment. The food was plenty and of course it had pork, chicken and fish, but, no lomi-lomi, noodles with and without meat. Plenty of green salad and rice, taro buns and poi- purple sweet potato- They gave us free water and punch - tickets which one can choose beer, wine or mai tais. Show was excellent dances from the islands of Hawaii, Fiji, Samoa,Tahiti, and more. But... the last fire act culminated the show. The MC, Chief, and owner from Samoa was funny and brought to the stage couples celebrating anniversaries and newlyweds- dancing on stage under the moonlight the Hawaiian love song, lights went off - people from the public got up as well to dance by their table. There was a couple celebrating their 51 wedding anniversary! "Patience" was their secret to their long marriage. You will enjoy the four hour event from 5:00 pm check in to 8:15 pm - dancers stand on stage for pictures - it was worth the money. read more

Alright, quick summary: the food is subpar, the entertainment is great, and the location is a bit remote. Now down to the nitty-gritty: The LOCATION was in a water park and seems a bit sketchy to say the least. However, I would recommend Uber or a rental car here if you can. The buses seemed overpacked and a bit too much for the wait for everyone to get back on. The FOOD was a hodgepodge of hot and cold foods: fish, pork, chicken, a simple salad, raw bell peppers, and plain soba noodles. The food was mediocre, but the dessert of pineapple cake was the true star of the meal. Nothing too crazy, but don't expect a delectable feast. The ENTERTAINMENT was enjoyable and honestly made me tear up. They start with commentary from the head leader and do some cultural dances with a fun Hawaiian beat in the background. Towards the end, they invite newly-weds and anniversary celebrators to the stage to share a dance in front of everyone. This is the part that made me tear up. Well done. BEST LUAU EVER!!! I've been to a few luau's in Hawai'i and this has to be one of the best ones!!! It's even more special to be in the presence of a Chief and his beautiful daughter the princess!!! The ambiance is perfection! I loved that they explained a little of their heritage! Throughout the program they introduced parts of their beautiful culture!!!! I came here for the cultural shows (fire dance, etc) and to learn a little about the Hawaiin culture. At first it was a little slow, but thats expected as the show hadnt start yet and we were getting ready for the food. The food is not the main attraction, it was edible enough but it definitely wasn't the best quality food. I think they invested most of the time into the show and performance, which is where the money is at. Luckily when we went was the weekend before the WORLD FIREKNIFE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE POLYNESIAN CULTURAL CENTER, which meant we got special guests who are performing. It was amazing. I was in awe of the show especially once it got dark. read more

This was my second time going to a luau and I was impressed considering that my first time was an average experience. I had to call to make a reservation in which they took down my payment through the phone as well. $310 for two people for the standard/regular seating. The royalty package is for those if you want to be seated closer and to get your food faster. My boyfriend and I didn't wait too long in line when we first got there even though it was already half an hour when they started checking in. After checking in, we waited in another line that was for taking pictures with the dressed up staff. The venue is situated inside the Wet n Wild watermark unlike other luaus that are closed to a body of water with green grass and palm trees. We each got two free drink tickets handed to us at check in. The first drink which was a Mai Tai wasn't very strong and was extremely watered down. The second drink we redeemed was super strong which I didn't mind. There was also a bar where you could order more drinks but if not, they did serve complimentary water and fruit juice. Food wasn't amazing but it wasn't that bad either. I don't blame them since they are cooking in big batches. The show itself felt educational and engaging. It was interesting to listen to the chief talk about his experiences in an entertaining aspect. It felt more personal hearing the different stories. We thought the fire dancing show was really cool. How easy is the parking? We will stay at Four Season, it's says 10 minutes drive. Tyia
It's a huge parking lot at a water parking. If you get there early you don't even have to pay for parking. It's never full so no need to worry about finding a parking spot. It's big enough for plenty of cars
During the pandemic, are they currently doing served plates or is it buffet style?
It is served plates, you can see them assemble your plate of food.
How do we book for the Luau? I checked their website frequently but there's no opening for the current month, until next yr january. Does this mean they're sold out until 2022?
Their main site is messed up. Book through the Wet 'n' Wild site and it'll tell you if it's available or not.
We have a severe nut allergy, does anyone know how they accommodate allergies?
If I remember correctly, the staff did say to let them know if anyone has food allergies. Also, the dinner at the luau was buffet style with labels so you can pick what you want

Yes, their website says $5. If the attendant tells you otherwise, he is just trying to pocket some cash.

Absolutely, the area is not too big. Anywhere you sit should be ok.

It's best to buy it from Hawaii Discounts, as the prices are much cheaper than anywhere else. If you have active duty military personnel in your party, book directly through Chief's-the military rate will apply to all persons in your party(cheapest)
