This is information you need to let people know earlier in the day not wait until they waste their time and gas money and arrive at the box office. The girl running the box office was apoigetic and nice. Someone associated from the production was trying to have the people that did buy tickets be able to sit through the rehersal since it would be a full run-through. He later told me that he was overruled and it was a no go. I did receive a refund, but even the refund doesn't cover the price of gas that was spent and sitting in traffic driving there and driving back. Not to mention there are different things I could have done with my day if i wasn't going to attend this show. Astronomical unprofessionalism and zero regard for the audience's time and frankly money. If you have already purchased tickets to one of their performances I highly recommend that you confirm if the show is still going on so your time isn't wasted. I have to say out of all of the plays I have seen in LA this is one of the worst experiences I've ever had. I won't be going to any future plays put on by this production company. Do better. This is pretty disgusting.

The Iranian-American playwright Houshang Touzie and his production company, Work Shop 79, are presenting his latest play at Odyssey this weekend, and I attended their rehearsal last night to be part of it. What I love most about Odyssey is that every seat is a "good seat." The lighting director and the sound engineer were busy setting everything up, and I sat silently in the darkness, watching everything come together in preparation for what was to come this weekend. Thank you, Odyssey, for welcoming plays from other cultures and languages into your theater.

We took two series of classes with them and we plan to continue when time permits. We learned a classical Indian dance form that is seeped in tradition and it was also very fun! While I am of Korean descent, I never once felt odd for wanting to try kathak dance classes, even when I didn't know what kathak dance classes were when I saw a notice for them. I was really glad when I asked my 12 year old daughter if she would be interested and when she said yes so we signed up! We also had access to student videos so we can practice during the week and it was a terrific way of getting some exercise while we're safer at home. It was also wonderful being part of a community that is diverse, respectful, and kind towards each other. Plus, many of the students were from different parts of the U.S. and it was great to check in on them weekly. For out first online recital, my older sister was able to view it online and it was a real joy for her and us that she was able to watch since she lives in a different country. If looking for a dance class and inclusive community, I highly recommend Leela Dance Company! There are many reasons to try out their dance company.

A hidden gem. Let's jump right into this review…read more The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles is a renowned, non-profit theater known for intimate productions of classic and contemporary plays, new works, and educational programs. Two main spaces, the 500-seat Gil Cates Theater and the smaller Audrey Skirball-Kenis Theater. My son and I attended a play - Table 17 and sat in the balcony box of the Gil Cates Theater. Box seats $139pp Pros 1. Very nice venue. An intimate space with every seat being a good seat. Great acoustics also. 2. Bathrooms are clean and grounds are well-kept. 3. Small bar area that sells food items and drink, including alcohol. 4. Patio area and seating in the lobby if you arrive early. Doors usually open 1 hour before showtime. Theater doors open 30 minutes before curtain time. Cons 1. Parking can be a challenge but not impossible. Metered street parking. Use the text to pay function because you can add additional time from your phone and receive reminders via text when your time is about to expire. There are also paid parking lots within walking distance. Prices will vary. I was impressed with Geffen Playhouse and will definitely be back. BTW - Table 17 was an amazing play - funny, thought provoking, and an attention grabber.

I have seen so many amazing plays here over the years and recently saw the play, "Master Harold"...and the boys and it was just as fantastic as I imagined it would be! It was very well acted and directed with a gorgeous set design. I really felt transported to another time while watching the play! The lobby and courtyard are gorgeous and while they are small and get crowded quickly, they are still enjoyable to relax before or after the play! We came on a Sunday thinking there would be complimentary wine (which there definitely used to be!), but sadly it seems they have discontinued this. The seats were comfy and pretty spacious and since the theaters are smaller here, every seat offers a great view. The sound amplifies well throughout the theater. The staff were very friendly and courteous. Parking can be a little tricky in the area but they do have a lot next door! We were able to find a free spot a few blocks away in the neighborhood! There's lots of restaurants nearby to dine at before or after the show as well! I cannot wait to return soon to see another play here!

We live an hour away, but I drove my daughter there every single Sunday. At first, I honestly questioned everything. I wondered if it was too expensive, if it was legitimate, and if we were making the right decision. But looking back now, I can say with my whole heart that it was one of the best decisions we ever made for our daughter. My daughter stayed with the program for two years, graduated, walked the red carpet with so much confidence, and watched her graduation film on the big screen surrounded by people who believed in her. It was emotional for me as a parent because I saw how much she had grown, not just as an actress, but as a person. We chose to continue because my daughter truly loved acting. I worked extra hard to make the tuition possible, and every sacrifice was worth it because this is where she discovered her passion and found confidence in herself. Gary Spatz and Gayla Goehl saw something special in her before anyone else did, and I will always be grateful for that. Because of the foundation she built at The Playground, she now has incredible representation with, one of the most respected agencies in Los Angeles. The Playground gave my daughter an opportunity, guidance, and belief in herself that changed the direction of her life. For our family, it was absolutely worth it.

Through improv, scene study, and commercial sessions, he has developed skills I never expected to see so quickly. His Junior Varsity class with Gayla Goehl has been a highlight, and he genuinely loves showing up every single week. What sets Gayla apart is her philosophy. She has a gift for helping each student discover their own authentic voice rather than molding them into someone else's idea of a performer. She meets every kid exactly where they are, and the confidence my son has built under her guidance carries far beyond the stage. Gayla creates a space where he feels comfortable asking questions, talking openly, and truly being himself. Her warmth makes her more than a coach. She is a trusted mentor. As a parent, knowing your child has that kind of support system is invaluable. She does not push. She inspires. Her advice has been spot-on every time, and her open-door approach makes both students and parents feel like they are truly part of a community. Highly recommend Gayla and The Playground to any parent looking for a place where their child can grow, thrive, and love the process.
